'QuickShot' Feature... Why? Would you use it?

Geeze some of you folks crack me up...

You will have to practice using this feature if you expect to be any good with it.. . With practice you will get used to where you have to hold the phone to get the shot... It's just like anything else that you do in what is called a "instinctive" manner...

True it could be learned but -- honestly -- it is a feature I wouldn't want to learn. I don't mind a quick launch for camera but I usually like to line up my photos first -- If I need a quick shot I just hold down the camera upon launch for burst.

It is okay for some to not want to use it :).

Agreed...seems pretty pointless to me
The only situation I can see this being useful is in an emergency/life threatening situation where you would have to take a pic of someone or something without being obvious...thats about it

The Galaxy S6 has this feature but only used for SOS mode

But even then, it's quite obvious haha The camera (which means your screen) will light up immediately. But oh well, someone at LG thought it'd be useful, I guess it is for some. I just can't see MYSELF using it.

Not necessarily, the screen would be facing you, not the kidnapper (or other "villain"), so they wouldn't know you took a pic, unless you were in a dark room, which probable would be as noticable because once the camera turns on, the screen will still be dark because of the room

Definitely not as obvious as pointing, aiming, focusing, and taking a pic of a dude

There have been plenty of situations where I could not get my camera app open and a photo taken quick enough to get a shot. I'd rather take that quick shot, then use whatever remaining time I have left to get a better shot than not have that option at all and possibly completely miss a shot with the one chance you had

Life happens fast and you can't always stage a shot. If you can't figure this out your imagination is severely lacking. So... Is it a useless feature... for some I am quite sure that it will be but it is a nice feature nevertheless that no other phone has and I can see it being used if they can get the auto focus spot on with some software updates. That's the only limitation I can see with it right now and as good as this camera is I can see them investing time and effort in improving it.

I agree that the feature doesn't seem like it's terribly useful in practice. I've also heard that it tries to take the picture too quickly and shots are out of focus.

Fast launching the camera is a great idea, but immediately snapping a photo of what you can't even see on the screen is odd. Would be something that I'll disable, however will definitely keep the quick launch though. Very useful feature.

Not to pick nits, but cars can legally go through yellow lights (at least in the U.S.). If it goes through a yellow light and almost hits you, then you must have entered the crosswalk on a "don't walk" signal and you should be taking a selfie to identify the offending party. 😉

Not to pic nits, but a pedestrian in the US has the right of way at ALL times regardless of what the traffic light said and if you're one of the fools that goes through a yellow and is not willing to slow down for a pedestrian in a cross walk, then this feature should be used on people like you.

Here is a hint from someone who drives for a living and does about 300k miles per year in local traffic and has 0 accidents on my record...

You are not as important as you think.
Drive cautiously at all times and let others have the right of way even if you are supposed to be the one who goes first.
The more you are late, the slower you drive or be prepared for a ticket or an accident.
Bicycles and pedestrians are always more important then you, having a death by your neglectful driving habits will effect your life and your driving record.
Having an accident at over 25 miles per hour increases a pedestrian fatality by 100 times.
Lights or right of way means nothing when the person you hit is now in a wheelchair, so slow down.
The road you drive on is not yours, so be careful and save for everyone's sake.

I could go on but I'm not here to argue. I just don't want to hear that you got into an accident and now can't enjoy your new phone because you're in the hospital.

Drive safe.

I'm minding my own business, and boom.....there's Sasquatch. Do you ask him to pause while you launch and check the white balance? Hell no,you aim and quick launch.

Thanks for the warning but you are completely wrong. If the light is yellow it is a controlled intersection. A pedestrian does NOT have the right of way to walk against a "don't walk" sign.

If you think you have the right of way because you're a pedestrian and are crossing against a don't walk sign, then you deserve to get hit (and you would be "at fault" not the driver). Don't read that as I hope you get hit, or if think you should get hit, but that not observing a crossing sign is the equivalent of running a red light.

If you're driving that much and have NEVER gone through an intersection when the light is yellow, you're either a liar or do all your driving without ever encountering a stop light.

If you weren't so self absorbed in preaching and would read what I wrote, I said nothing about speeding up to get through a light or anything that you seem to have thought you read.

Actually pedestrians do not have a automatic right of way.. This notion is wrong and potentially hazardous. Pedestrians have to follow all laws regarding pedestrian traffic and in no way have a right to violate these laws and endanger themselves nor those in motor vehicles. Any pedestrian that violates the law can be held accountable for all damages to the other persons vehicle and passengers. Don't think for 1 second that being in a crosswalk gives you some inalienable right to step into traffic and not be liable. This holds true even in a school crossing where kids run blindly into traffic without looking where there isn't a stop or yield to pedestrian sign and multiple lanes of traffic.

This kind of thinking that pedestrians always have the right of way is sometimes very fatily flawed. The rules of the road pertains to every individual that travels on them, regardless of the means of transportation.

I get it there have been moments that I wished I had this feature. I wouldn't say anything memorable but where I just wanted a quick shot.

I get the complaints though. I guess you can't customize the other two to just launch the camera?

Again, I get the idea of the QuickShot, I just don't see it being useful because of the way you launch the camera. I mean, I still haven't held the G4 so I might be wrong, but in all the examples I've seen, the phone is either facing downwards or towards the user (quick selfie? hahaha). And launching the camera while holding the phone AS A CAMERA seems like it would be an awkward position for your hands to press the volume buttons.

I might be wrong though, so let's wait until I can actually try it, but that's my perception so far.

Unless a Squirrel is running by you with a full pie in its mouth, the only other use I can see is to hide the fact that you're taking a pic like a perv.

Well, only today as I sat on some steps in my home town, sheltering from the rain, texting on my phone, I became aware of a movement to my right, and saw to my delight that a wagtail was no more than a foot away from me, eyeing me, and apparently unalarmed. Hunched there in my damp green coat, I may have seemed like a harmless boulder. It's JUST possible that the G4 would have allowed me to grab a shot before the welcome visitor took flight. With the G3 I was actually using, not a hope.

First a squirrel, now a wagtail. Tomorrow, I am expecting a crocodile to saunter by.

Reality check for anyone tempted to believe...

300k miles / (365*24) = 34 mph without breaks for food, sleep, or any other necessary function.

"Local traffic" implies town/city traffic with speed limits >= 35mph and real averages probably no better than 20-25. Anyone who claims to drive continuously, 24*7 is either deluded or a liar.
