RCS after all from Google effective immediately

That I don't know. I just know that the app is capable of using RCS. Evidently, RCS support was added a few years ago.

There is also info about it in the apps help. I'm pretty sure if you went to their web page you could find some more info.

Yeah they thought they were going to get it by 2017 but that didn't happen. Not their fault.

I'm stuck with the stock apps RCS on my Tmobile phones or the hack for Android Messages.

Google will roll RCS out like they rolled out dark mode for Gmail months ago that I still can't enable..

Its server side roll out , but surprised it not on yours . Try force stop gmail see if u fan get it that way

Nope. Nada. Oddly enough, if I click on Google Account in the Gmail settings, that account has dark mode. Go figure.

Where you tap your account name ? But not in main page

Yes. When I tap on my account pic in Gmail, it goes to the account info and it's in dark mode. But the Gmail interface is so. much. white! And there's no way to force it short of rooting right now and I don't want to root my phone for that. My tablet is rooted, but I don't use it much and haven't checked to see if dark mode is on there.

Uninstall and install Gmail again see if that trigger it , shouldn't be just dark in the account settings

It's working fine on my Verizon Note 10+. It only works on my daughter's Verizon Note 8 if WiFi is turned off.

I'm not sure if it is carrier specific or device specific at this point. I know Verizon isn't allowed to disable features. That was part of the FCC smacking Verizon's peepee as well as part of the Block C rules the FCC put into place when auctioning off Block C spectrum 12 years ago. Those rules also apply to the other carriers too...more or less..

After reading your post, I turned off WiFi, launched messages, and was even able to enable "chat features," after which it said wait while it sets things up. A few moments later, I backed out of the menu and back in, only to get a message that says "your carrier currently does not support this feature." Well, at least I know who to blame! :-D

In your case, yep its your carrier. In mine, I think it's a bit of both.

I got Android Messages beta to work on my Note 10+, but not on my daughter's Note 8.

Google is still rolling it out so, we'll just have to wait.

Been using it for a few months. love it. made sure all my family and friends use it and we communicate without charges. better than WhatsApp and Hangouts.

I can confirm that RCS works on my Note 10+ on Verizon by using the beta version of the Google Messages app and following the instructions in the YT video posted above. But, in my case at least, the person you're texting with has to be using the Google Messages app as well. Otherwise it will be the garden variety SMS/MMS.

Having come from iOS, I really missed iMessage, so this was a welcome upgrade. It looks just like iMessage: dark blue conversation bubbles, typing indicators, sent/delivered/read receipts etc. I haven't really tested whether pics and videos are less compressed, so I can't speak to that.

I just wish RCS was available in the stock Samsung Messages app as most of my friends and family who are Android users don't "tinker" with their phones and just use the stock app.
