Ready to buy the S3 but then I compared screens

So, you've seen and heard a LOT of things about this..

We all know that nobody on the internet ever tells a lie or exaggerates anything.

It's comforting and puts it all to rest that you've "seen pics and read posts"...

I must be on my way now, because they said on the interwebs that the end of the world was going to happen on 12/21.

This conversation reminds me of talking to my kids, determined to do something they've been told they shouldn't do simply because they want to see if they can.
And as I already said..having the LG Optimus for the past 2 years, I can count on ONE hand the times I manually turned the brightness up..
Not to mention the times I actually watched a movie on my phone was uh...NEVER.
Seriously, you people are acting as though your phone is the only device you will ever own/own at this moment in time that can do these things.
Everything in my house can play my hulu+, Netflix, PlayOn, Vudu..

Speaking of movies...it's nearly time to gather the family in front of my SGS3 for family movie night. Gosh I hope my screen doesn't burn-in. Geez..
Epic dramatizing everything for the win here...

And your use case is typical of everybody that owns phone? Nobody ever said you have to manually turn the brightness up. Auto brightness will do this for you. That's what it's for. :-)

Also, pictures of the problem and statements from Samsung aren't exaggeration. I hope you don't get your weather info from the Internet. It might be exaggerated.

Actually I don't (weather)....it's not nearly as detailed as watching the TV...and I also pay a pretty penny monthly for DirecTv, not to mention just forking out a chunk last week for a new 3D TV (Toshy)...

The phone is nice to just get a brief, general idea...but meteorology in day-to-day accuracy is often wrong anyway. I always heard "only believe half of what you see and none of what you read.

I'm not so hung-up on my phone that I get all pissy because it has an issue that causes a problem IF I happen to do something that I've never ever done before, and chances are slim that it will happen unless certain criterion are met ...I realize that these high-priced gadgets have their faults..no phone is perfect and I don't claim for mine to be perfect..but I do however like the device and I don't go insulting other people's choices (no one can find ANY post where I insulted a device or it's integrity, or lack thereof, EVER). So what, it may have some issue. I dealt with the Optimus S, so I've seen the ultimate in frustration when it comes to phones having problems.

We're not insulting your choice, we're pointing out facts. Pointing that if you hit a ford pinto from behind that it will explode is not insulting pinto owners for their choice of vehicles. The fact is it is a real problem, Samsung has confirmed it to the public and that's something a company never does unless it's enough of an issue that they absolutely have to. No amount of denial will change that. All the S3 owners with damaged screen aren't part of some massive conspiracy that's out trying to trick you.

The fact also stands that a great many people buy high end smart phones with 720p screens because they want to consume media content on them. If they didn't they'd buy a blackberry. Just because you never plan to watch a video on your device, and keep your phone on low brightness (though auto-brightness will do it for you unless you disable it) doesn't mean that the majority of GS3 owners use it so minimally and to say that because it's not a problem for you, it shouldn't be for anyone else is presumptuous to say the least.

You said you just forked out for a new TV. If you found out that images could be burned into your TV if you watched more that 30 minutes of TV a day, would you take consolation from people who watch 20 minutes of TV every week telling you that you shouldn't have a problem with it and that you wouldn't have the problem if you didn't watch so much TV? It's not a problem for them, you shouldn't get "pissy" about it, either, right?

My guess is the OP is pretty turned off from using the forum after seeing all of the banter. We have a One X, we chose this phone for various reasons, for me and many others (on this One X forum) we feel it has a great screen. It has faults yes. You chose your GS3 for other reasons which were important to you. Yes your phone too has faults. As stated over and over again people choose what's important to them doesn't make another phone bad.

Sorry, but under no circumstances would I ever get a blackberry, for any reason.... I'd go back to a dumb phone before I would do that.
And unlike some posts here, I never even mentioned the one x because I have no experience with it, I only put things in perspective which is obviously a little too tough for a few others to do easily.
As for the tv reference, I feel the same way as I do about the phone. If I was told that, I would read it with skepticism until it happened, then I would deal with it until I am ready to purchase a new one. Same as my phone if it burns in.... I'll deal with it until my upgrade is eligible just like anyone else would do. We aren't talking life& death situations here, they are phones. And my tv suffers from burn-in? Then I watch tv with a burned-in image.

Wow, um okay. I can't argue with crazy. Well you may do that, but most people would choose, to buy a TV that doesn't burn in. I guess if your car had the annoying fault of having the possibility of blowing up in a giant flame ball, you would just buy it anyway and ignore it. If somebody shoots you in the chest, you won't go to a hospital, you'll just deal with it and wait for it to heal up by itself. Feel free to be healthily skeptical until it happens. It has happened. The company that makes it confirmed it. This phone costs 200-250 dollars, and 650 if you buy it off of a contract, it's not like it's an overcooked burger at McDonalds. Consumers have a right to be upset about undisclosed problems with a device. I guess it doesn't matter though, right since your arguement is that it's NOT a problem and even if it IS a problem, people should just shut up and deal with it. Okay, then pal.

Wow, uhm "PAL" as you called me...I don't take kindly to people calling me crazy, and if the staff of this site allows PERSONAL attacks on someone because they disagree, then I'm also done here (and I won't be donating any more phones to anyone here, that's for SURE). I never asked for special treatment because I made donations, but I be damned if I'm going to be disrespected and called crazy by someone who doesn't like what I've said.

It's not:
car had the annoying fault of having the possibility of blowing up in a giant flame ball
It's not:
somebody shoots you in the chest, you won't go to a hospital, you'll just deal with it and wait for it to heal up by itself.
It's not:
it's an overcooked burger at McDonalds.
IT IS absolutely NOT a reason to call someone CRAZY.

It IS, however, a phone. 19 months from now it'll be a distant memory.
Thanks, I'm done here.
