Rebooting on boot!

Lately when I replace my battery or reboot my epic I'm having problems. First, it takes forever for the apps that are installed on the sd card to "show up". Even though according to the notification bar it finished scanning the sd card. And then if I attempt to do anything while the phone isn't showing those sd apps, the phone lags big time and eventually reboots. I tried fixing permissions with cmw but it didn't help. I'm currently on rooted stock gingerbread. Is there some corrupt file in the sd card thats interfering with the booting process and if so what can I do?

I think you hit the nail on the head. I would backup your sdcard to your computer, format it and then move the contents back and see if this changes things....

Before doing the above you could also try connecting via usb cable "mass storage" and then from your computer assuming your running Windows, right click on your device drive then select properties and then Tools Tab and error check the device....

Thanks! I'll try it tomorrow. By the way do you think this may have to do with "forcing" some apps to sd, with titanium backup? Because it started happening a few days after forcing some game apps. But I then moved those apps back to the phone, and the problem persisted. I'm wondering if it's connected, cause I'm hesitant to force anymore apps now

Not sure, I'm really not on that one...

Lets see what the error check and formatting does for you. Error plaqued or corrupt sdcard's have produced some strange results over time.... From booting issues, to other strange things...

The error check did not find any errors. I copied the whole card to my computer. How do I format the card? Under settings and storage the option to reformat the sd card is greyed out and not clickable.

To format the sd card go to settings> storage> unmount sd card and once is unmounted you can format the sd card. Another option is to remove it and put it into the pc or laptop and format there.

I reformatted my sd card. But my problem exists. It reboots at least three times on the initial boot. what do I do?

Did the odin back and installed and rooted EL30, I was hoping that my rebooting problem will go away, but unfortunately my phone still reboots about three times on initial boot. Tried deleting apps but can't figure out the problem. My question is, I'm now on stock rooted EL30. Do you think switching to cm7 and the new file system will help me? Also, why can't there be a diagnolsis app that detects wich app or file is "misbehaving"?

Still having this problem, I would switch to cm9 if it would be more stable. In the meantime its driving me nuts. Any help would be appreciated!

Physically remove the SD card and see if it still does it. Windows checks the file system but may not be able to determine if there is physical errors, unless you've done the long scan.

If it still reboots with the card out, odin back to stock (don't root), and take a trip down to Sprint, since it's going to be a hardware issue (internal memory going bad maybe?), or other hardware fault.

Ok. I took out the sd card and it booted without a problem. After a half hour I put back the sd card and after a few minutes it became laggy and rebooted. So the problem is definitely with the sd card. So what is the quick (or long) solution?

I guess, time for a new SD card.
You can try to hit up sprint for a replacement as it was included with your phone, but expect that they won't do anything. Otherwise, SD cards aren't all that expensive, and may be the perfect excuse to upgrade to a larger (32gb), or just plain faster (Class 4 through 10) 16gb or 32gb. The larger/faster the card, the more expensive it will be. DO NOT get a cheap one on e-bay, use a trusted online or brick/morter retailer or you'll get corrupted data at about 1/2 the advertised capacity.

I tried cm9 and I don't have the rebooting problem anymore. The question is if I want to stay with cm9. Although it is mostly a great experience, i watch a lot of videos on the phone and as of now there are a lot of visual lines flying around on videos. Also I wonder if MLB at bat will work on cm9 and allow me to watch live games. Hmmm.....
