Receiving bad video quality

I have an HTC 1m8 and the videos im being sent have really bad video quality. Im not sure if it is my phone or if it is automatically sent as bad quality. Can someine help?

Welcome to Android Central! Video sent via MMS (i.e., attached to a text message) will always be bad, because the max filesize you can send is around 1.2 MB. That's not very big, and videos will be compressed severely, leading to low resolution. The best way to send high resolution videos is to upload the video to YouTube or Google Photos, then share the link privately with the recipient.
