Reception Issues - Not Again!

First, how do I put it into CDMA only mode? And, I thought it automatically switches if it can't get a 4G signal? But regardless, I was getting "No Service" and an "X" most of the day yesterday, unless I was connected to Wifi.

Secondly, I'm not in the office today and my reception at home is fine, but compared with 3 days ago, still lower (by 10Mbps) on 4G.

If you have the "X" at the top, that means you have no voice service. Did you try the new sim yet? If not, try it first. It is possible that you have a bad phone or something as in general, the Rezound gets pretty good signal, I mean if a bunch of other people who are in the same location to you have different Verizon phones with service, the Rezound should certainly get voice service. With regards to CDMA only:

the 4S doesn't have 4G. if you are in a weak 4g area, you can try to force it into 3G mode and see how it goes.

menu>settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>network mode.

Select "CDMA Only"

should you wish to switch it back to 4g/3g auto mode, select "LTE/CDMA"

I'm picking up a new SIM tomorrow. We'll see how it goes then. Will post updates then. Thanks. :)

Been a while but I think I remember somebody posting that if you pull your battery out, then remove the SIM card, re-insert the SIM card, put battery and cover back on it sometimes forces a PRL update. May be worth a shot...

Have you called to confirm this with Verizon?

I am starting to hate K-9; the set-up is so complicated. Where would I find High Performance? And the Background data vs K-9...how does one do that? This is too difficult for just an e-mail app. :-\ Would really appreciate some help.

Thanks!

Maildroid is the best that I've found so far. It has lots of settings to customize but right out of the box it works and offers multiple account support. Admittedly accounts like Yahoo and RoadRunner take a little manual setup but the directions are all over the web and really only involve minor changes to the setup it offers you just opening the manual setup screen. Overall I've used it since about a month after I had my Inc, and haven't found anything to replace it. Also offers exchange support. 2 types, but IDK anything about them:(

I'm sorry for you hollyday. i don't think we can make u understand quite how this 4g lte /cdma stuff works. u did not even try forcing CDMA only, did u? Go back and read some of the previous posts. We are trying to save you a lot of trouble by saying : For now it is just the way things are. try our suggestions. It will help things, not totally cure them. man, IDK what else to say. If you are hell bent on a new sim, then go for it. But, man, IT AIN"T GONNA DO A DAMN THING DIFFERENT!:)

It is supposed to be faster. But, the variables are different. If you have a very strong signal for each when they are side by side then yes, 4G LTE will do better.

It's worth noting that Verizons current 4g network can nearly max out at double what WiMax can top out at. WiMax can offer good results but it's not true LTE.

Wellll.....I lost all data connection today. Completely. Even where I had service before...nothing.

I spent 90 minutes on the phone with Verizon, then both of us with HTC tech. By the way, the HTC tech was SO nice (so was VZW). Anyway...HTC Tech wants anyone who is having connection issues since the OTA update to contact them (1-866-449-8358) and report the issue. The conclusion they came to is that the OTA update affected my phone connectivity, so they want me to go exchange my phone and NOT to download the update until further notice. I will post this info in a separate thread for others to see.

I'm having the worst luck with phones! But I hope the exchange will fix my connection issues (didn't have it prior to the update). So...that's where it's at right now.

Oh, and yea...I like Maildroid much better than K-9. What's the (pricey) paid version do that it costs so much?

Disn't see a need for it so I skipped the update but that's good info. to pass along. Personally, I don't buy the update scenario. Only thing I see that could have a role is the VLA app. since it's a boot running app. I don't buy their stance b/c I've been having similar signal issues ever since the last outages. I never had any issues before then.

Do this, dial *#*#4636#*#* click on the first option, scroll down to wcdma and click then choose CDMA+lte/evdo auto. It fixes everything.

Yep. I see it in my Application section, under Running. I stopped it. But I have patchy connection so I can't test out your theory. Did this come with the OTA update or does it come stock on the phone?

It had to have come w/ the update. It wasn't on the Rezound out of the box, that's for sure. Although, I'm not gonna lose root to double check. As dpham00 noted, follow his link or go in the android market and download the update. It appears it's an optional app, it will disable the VLA app. if you click on update it from within the market.

Another good reason for me to not update my swapped phone.

Oh..I didn't understand the part about downloading the update to disable it. Now I do - thanks. :)

The OTA is inevitable on your phone, unfortunately. You might be able to delay it by denying it a few times but it will download and install itself. As far as that VLA update in the market, it looks like it baked itself in, so I'm quite skeptical that will be a solution for VLA disabling, personally, but stranger things have happened. Hopefully, that pans out for everyone, though. Let me know if that works out, I'm curious.

I thought the same thing, but both the Verizon tech and the HTC tech said that as long as I reject the update, it will not automatically DL to my phone. They said if I keep rejecting it, eventually it will stop asking and the only way to get it is to go under Status and Check for Update.

I will, if I have to deal with it.

Meanwhile, how did you avoid the update - by rooting the phone?

At work today...and I'm losing reception all over the place - indoor and out. I've been told by Verizon that I should get reception in this area - great 4G area. But I'm even dropping calls, which I never did with Sprint.

Now I don't know if it's the phone or the provider.
