Regarding Dec. 9 no longer being the unofficial date

You were reporting that date awhile back, but the 12/9 date was actually going to happen until it got delayed. You didn't predict the delay at all. No one did. 12/15 is looking like the most likely date at this point. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they go through the same process with 12/15 that they did with 12/9. Can we please stop with the "it will launch on ______" like anyone here has any real idea? I say 12/15 because that's what Droid Life is reporting and although I'm not a huge fan, they were fairly accurate so far. I wouldn't bet any money on that date nor would I take credit for it if it ends up happening.

Yes. They were real accurate. They missed it like 3 times.

There is no proof of any delay.

I would.

Oh, I forgot; you know everything. So when stores were being told the 9th, the equipment guide stated the 9th, and inventory was sent out, you knew all along it wasn't going to happen. Gotcha.

It's actually coming out tomorrow... No delay.. That's what my barber told me.

There is no proof of any delay.

I called a vzw store today and talked to a guy he said he was off yesterday so last he looked it was the 9th I told him to look again he did and said on it has been delayed. So they had it in their system to come out tomorrow now it's not. Would that be a delay? Sounds like one to me.

Like I said there is no proof of a delay.

Its still just a rumor but I heard the Galaxy Nexus was delayed because of Tim Tebow.
Might be something to do with the #15.

The 15th seems more realistic to me but the 22nd has gotta be the last date. Verizon never announced a release date period and it looks like it was gonna be a silent release with no pre order. They were gunning for the 9 but something obviously held it up I think it's the 4g outage more than anything and they want this to be as smooth as possible and maybe they want to stock up on a ton of these in stores so on release date it makes more hype being the first android phone to sell over x units. Wither way when it's out I will get it and that's it I know of stores that have it so I am happy about that.

I'm trying to find the announcement for this phone being released on December 9. I can't seem to find it anywhere on the VZW, Google, or Samsung website. Help me out, did I overlook it? Or do you honestly think that a sales person at a VZW store is empowered to make such a declaration?

Personally, I'm still betting the release gets pushed back into January, unfortunately. I may be wrong about this, but I just can't see Verizon releasing a new phone the week before, or of, Christmas. If it's not out by the 22nd, I don't think it's being released until 2012 (which is silly, considering stores have reportedly gotten shipments of the phone). I'm hoping I'm wrong, but I'm just trying to prepare myself for the worst, yanno?

Anyway, the 15th would be... interesting, to me, because that's my birthday, and I've been rationalizing spending $650+ on this phone by saying it's my birthday/ Christmas present to myself. :) I was hoping to have it before my birthday, though. Actually, I was hoping to order online, so if it doesn't go up to order until the 15th, I definitely wouldn't have it on my birthday. :/

I suppose I could maybe pick it up at a Verizon store, though... Anyone have any experience buying phones off contract at a Verizon store? Is it a hassle, at all, given that I'd imagine they'd want to set you up with a new line/ plan, or whatever? I've also heard that Verizon stores require their employees to "set up" the phones for customers before they walk out the door, and to be honest, I'd rather I do that myself. I'm tech-savvy enough to know what I'm doing, so it'd just be pointless having someone else tamper around with my phone.

I was at Best Buy today and inquired for the heck of it. The girl said that she'd heard that they had moved the date. I said, "So not tomorrow?" She said no. Said she hadn't heard anything about when and that she'd love to do pre-orders for people but didn't know anything about a when.

Best Buy did the same thing with my Xoom. I was livid. I asked them repeatedly not to open the box and just let me take it home. It got so heated that they almost called the police. I used every excuse in the book. They refused. So, it is possible that anywhere you go, they will want to put their grubby, little hands on it. It had to do with activating the device. I was paying full price, so not to have to sign a contract, but because it had to have a data plan, they had to do that. If you already have a micro sim card and you're buying it outright, you might be able to get away with it. I would not suggest buying at full retail at a Verizon store. I have seen managers refuse to do that, especially on a launch day, because there was no activation involved.

I've spoken to my friend again (I quoted them in a prior post in a different topic, which you can see here), and he has said the following. Apparently, the 4G outage was significant enough (with a loss of 2G/3G in some areas) that Verizon isn't taking any chances with another loss of service, especially with such a high profile device coming out. While they were planning on authorizing a "soft launch" of the device sometime tomorrow or Saturday, they're hedging their bets and waiting until next week sometime to launch. While inventory issues have been reported, this isn't 100% the case: they aren't necessarily low on stock, but they don't have a supply worthy of a spectacular launch. Combine this with the partial delay they had originally planned (the "soft launch" sometime within the next 48 hours, followed up with a fully advertised one early next week), they're opting to wait the few extra days until addition stock comes in. This will allow them to monitor the network for any more issues for a few more days, while allowing the stock to be warehoused and distributed sometime on Monday or Tuesday. My friend suggested that most retail stores should have their initial launch stock sometime Tuesday or early Wednesday, with larger stores with existing supplies receiving addition devices due to the projected size of the launch (compounded by the in-store signage following the XYBoard launch) and the approaching holiday sales rush. Finally, the reason why Verizon has not notified it's employees of the projected launch date is due to their own lack of decision on the matter, but be aware that next week is the end of the line for them; baring any show stopping device issues, expect a launch sometime between Wednesday and Saturday of next week, for certain.

Edit: By spectacular launch and limited inventory, I'm referring to a large amount of devices to sell not only in stores, but also online. With the lower than wanted stock numbers, it makes distribution a logistical nightmare, as some stores may not sell many of the phones, while others (in addition to their online orders) may need more inventory than they initially had.

I think they are under mandate to not let you leave the store with out installing Advanced Task Killer. ;)

Hm. Well, right now, I have a Thunderbolt, so a regular size SIM card is all I have. One thing I'm very curious about is, no matter how I end up purchasing my Nexus, I'm wondering how I'm going to get a new SIM card for it. I mean, I know Verizon will send you a new one if you need it, but how exactly do you request one online? Not only that, but how do you request a micro SIM when your currently activated phone takes the regular size SIM card? I'd just really hate to get my Nexus, but then have to wait a few days to use it, while I wait for Verizon to send me out a new SIM card.

It will come in the box automatically.
