Android Central Question

I have a question about Google Hangouts. Hopefully it's okay to ask this here. My husband and I have our Gmail on both our phones. This morning i received a hangouts notification on my phone that was meant for his email. My question is, is it possible someone can send him a message to his google hangouts if he was not part of the conversation, or if the person(s) sending the messages didn't have his email address? I hope that makes sense. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums. If his email is on your phone, you will probably get notifications for his Hangouts. Someone can establish a connection if they have his Gmail, but having never contacted him before. But you do need a Gmail address.

Have you or your husband had both gmail accounts on either phone?

I say this w/experience as my wife's hangouts receives my messages meant for me. I had my gmail address on her phone to set it up. I don't use hangouts very much but I've (and she) has gotten my messages from old friends who no longer have my phone number.
