Regarding Lag On The G3

I have g3 on Verizon I got rid of extra screens and full page widgets. Disabled bloat and I am totally lag free on LG launcher. I'm normally a nova prime guy but always give stock launcher a chance. This is the best stock launcher I've used so far.

I did what you did as well and am lag free on stock launcher.

Does my experience with the phone sound "normal?" Just asking because it is software and hardware. There is always a chance of getting a defective device....

Converting to ART is what helped me but, from what I've read; it may not work for everyone. Running Nova launcher helps but using it in conjunction ART really helped a lot for me. I'm actually running the stock launcher and it's running well. I selected the layer screen wipe effect, this effect seems to works the best so far with not much stuttering. The thing that's always bothered me about the manufacturer launchers is the way they stutter after opening an app that hasn't been opened in awhile. Stock Android has all but eliminated this.

There's articles out there about ART being very unstable on the G3 to the point that you might not be able to boot your phone (without holding down a combination of keys). So, just a warning to others that try this.

It's normal with the lg stock launcher (depending on how bad it is). The lg stock launcher's code just isn't optimized yet. With a few more releases I'm sure it'll perform better. For now though, it doesn't. If it happens on Nova too and happens after a reboot, then no, it's not normal and I'd try to get an exchange.

Yeah I tried Nova. The animations are still very choppy... :(

Oddly enough, I run the G3 launcher on my G2 and I don't see ANY stuttering or lag on my G2 as I do on my co-workers G3.

Only other thing I'd try is a factory reset. Maybe some service went haywire. I've seen that fix issues on more than a few occasions. But if that doesn't fix it and if a demo phone in a store doesn't have the issues, then I'd say it's pointing to a hardware issue. Although, you could also try disabling some services that could be bloatware (you could try PM'ing doggy2965 and see which ones he disabled). Good luck.

OP here....you know...I'm rethinking this. The other thing it could be aside from the stock launcher are the stock widgets. If any of them have issues, they could be the source of the lag, and would go away when switched to Nova. I'm gonna update my original post to mention this.

LMAO Brother. Exact same RAZR and exact same feeling. Can you believe Motorola could build such a POS!? I'm not experiencing lag...yet.

I guess "lag" or "choppiness" is subjective...all I can say is that the G2 was really really fast and smooth. I am not experiencing the same on this device. I love everything about it except for the smoothness / lag / chop, or whatever you want to call it. I had a Galaxy Nexus and it had so much lag / chop that it was borderline awful. This is not that bad. But for the "Flagship" of flagship phones, it is, in my mind, unacceptable. I just got back from a store and the two demo phones had the same or worse choppy animations mine does. I don't know if replacing my device will solve anything. I have to decide what to do quick though. I have about one week left before I am SOL.

It's not subjective. Some people just tolerate it. It's the same with the Galaxy S5; it lags and stutters everywhere. Anyone who says otherwise is in denial.

I wish if manufactures were going to skin Android, they would thin it down like the HTC. Or, if they want to add "features", let them be uninstallable/disabled and available through the Play store.

Ok fine it is not subjective ;) I just didn't want to ruffle any feathers of the folks on here that say there is no lag and that the speed is amazing. It simply is not. Which is why I am at an impasse.

My wish would be, at the time of initial setup after the first boot, we are given a choice between stock Android or manufacture launcher. If there are features wanted, you could choose them individually. I think some of these manufacturers (especially Samsung) try to make their skins look like IOS. HTC seems to go along more with the Android look (somewhat) and now it seems LG is doing that also.

My speed is very good better than note 3 or my gs5. I know m8 is smooth but not sure it's faster. If you don't like this phone or the help give to make it faster return it and go with whatever phone you think is faster.

I understand what you are saying...I guess coming from the G2 I thought my mind would be blown in UI performance. Everything else is amazing. Just the lag / chop in the UI is meh. I really don't have any choice but to keep the phone because I love everything else about it. I hope they can optimize the performance software - hardware better in an update.

That seems to be correct. I am unable to get into the menu with that info.
Gonna keep trying.

Mav.

Sent from Area 51 on my Sprint LG G3.

Replace 980 with 990.

5689#*990#

I though they said it was tested on Sprint's?? There is no High temp property. I can forgive the typo 980 vs 990 but that is just crazy. :)
