Release Date?

While Samsung phones may be assembled in Korea they get supplies from other places. They don't build everything from scratch. If a Samsung rep told somebody that the quake has delayed production I see this as viable. I am betting we will see a release date shortly. I am trying to get a friend who works at Best Buy support to dig up some info. I doubt he will come back with anything new. If he does find something out I'm sure I won't be the first one here to know as you guys seem to be on top of things. Stumbling across this forum has saved me from trying to Google Nexus S news everyday. Thanks for all the effort guys.

Per Samsung PR I spent the last hour talking to told me the following: the CMOS (camera) lenses used in Samsung's phones are made under license from Kodak, which requires them to be made in Japan, and only a limited amount can be made in advance. Samsung also uses batteries that are made exclusively in Japan as well, and their supply is low. The same applies to the materials for the seals in the phone bodies/cases. The rep also stated that while Samsung was able to get some supplies after the quake, these were NOT for the Nexus S 4G but were for the Epic 4G. Google is very specific about what parts are used in the Nexus S phones and from which suppliers those parts are purchased from. The original release date for the Nexus S 4G was April 6, but parts were not available due to quake damage in Japan. Samsung is still hoping to get enough phones in the US for April 28. In addition, the Nexus S 4G phone sold in Canada is NOT the same one that Sprint will be carrying, there are differences in radio types (GSM vs CDMA).

By the way, if you take the body of the Epic 4G apart, the motherboard says made in China, NOT South Korea - James, tech in local Sprint store, showed me the insides of the phone this afternoon.

I'm glad someone put up this link, might stop alot of the BS.

It is great link, and an excellent article.

Now, if we could just find a way to jump into the future to when the phones are available, and beam them back to everyone here in the forum so that we are all the first on our respective blocks to have them! <g>

Anyone know if this idea would work - do the slingshot effect from Star trek (Warp 8 around the sun) to go forward in time and then repeat to get back) to get all of us our phones? <g>

Ok. I'm setting my hopes up for April 28. Thanks Richard1864. If it doesn't come through, well then I guess I'll just keep on waiting. I sorta do hope it does release on the 28th. I took the day off from work to go to a concert that evening. Would be nice if I were able to pick up a Nexus S 4G earlier in the day.:)

For those of you googling for nexus s 4g, do what I did, create a Google alert! It's awesome. You can put in any phrase you want and when it or a combination of it appears on the internet, you will be notified. I have done this, but I still come to the forums here several times a day :)

Great info with the delays and the call to Samsung. I still don't really understand why Sprint or even Google hasn't give us a statement as to what the delay is.... I mean, is Sprint trying to get us to purchase other devices in the mean time or something? They should be considerate and give us a statement! They have to be getting lots of calls on it!

I know when I have asked @sprintcare and @sprint questions on twitter, I received answers pretty quickly. Maybe we should all start sending tweets their way about getting an update. Just a thought.

dont know how credible this is, but i was at best buy talking to the phone people there and asked if they had any info on the release date. The person who worked there told me that the sprint representative informed them that it would be out in about 2-3 weeks, which i guess more or less sometime in May. Like i said, not too sure about the credibility but just an update.

Of course they are, its called the Echo. Which I heard, but not sure....stands for Especially.Crappy.Handset.Offering. They want to sell as many of those as they can before the Nexus comes out, because they know it won't hold up to it.
