[Retired][ROM]Superclean 2.9.2 EA15/EB01/EB16/EC10 Based

Quick question (please bear with me as i am new to rooting):
So am i skipping a step or did i do everything right?

Nope, you did everything right , didn't miss anything. DroidX takes the time to make up all in one packages in ODIN for people that finally had enough with Verizon. Clockwork is just another way of doing the same thing just without using your computer, but it also allows you to install patches and themes.

Quick question (please bear with me as i am new to rooting):

I first rooted my phone to the EB01 (Stock Froyo), then flashed thru Odin to SC 2.4 and then a couple of minutes ago went to SC 2.8

Rebooted my phone and noticed a lot of changes I like.. I am curious about all the talk about Clockwork stuff and updating zips off the sd card. Am i missing important things by just using Odin? The reason I ask is all i have done is plug my phone without the battery and hold the volume down button and get the yellow triangle. I hit PDA in Odin and when its done I put the battery back in and power up. My phone has worked every time and i have noticed all the changes between the 3 ones i have done.

So am i skipping a step or did i do everything right?

You haven't missed a step, you've done everything right. Clockworkmod recovery (cwm) is just another tool used for installing things on your phone. You can install ROMs, themes, patches and add-ons. DroidXcon took the superclean ROM and put it into an ODIN flashable package to make it easy for people new to rooting. If you want to eventually put a theme on your phone you will have to learn how to use cwm to do that. If you just want to get used to your phone for now and enjoy the superclean ROM, you can do that and learn how to use cwm later. CWM just enhances your experience with your phone and gives you other options.

No expert on this myself, but from your explanation it sounds like you followed the same process I did to get to super clean. After you user Odin, all super clean updates can be installed via .zip from the RED Clockwork. To get thete just power off your phone and hold volume up AND volume down while also holding power. After the Samsung logo shows up youll be greeted with red clockwork. From there just erase your cache, do a factory reset, and wipe the Dalvik cache (under advanced) 2-3 times each. Then choose install from zip and choose your file. After its installed just reboot!

Awesome.

Thank You both.

SC 2.8 is sweet.. however I was hoping to obtain tethering but I'll settle with the way it is now.

Thanks again.

Hey jcom, just FYI there is an easier way to get into clockwork. Just hold the power button for about 2 seconds and choose recovery from the menu that pops up. Easy. Hope that helps

I just went to 2.9 but now my browser isn't working I get the error "no network connection" any ideas? It worked for awhile but the just quit. I have 2 bars so it must be something in the settings.

HUGE... I didn't know about that one. I learn something new everyday!

And I forgot to caution the OP of the question before that they should get comfortable with Odin before moving onto CMW. Creates the same results, but CWM can do more damage if you're not comfortable with it.

There was a post on here about 20 pages back or so about connection errors.. the advice was to remove the battery for 5 minutes and then power on. I'm not sure if that will solve your particular problem though.

Thanks I took the battery out for a minute I will try that again only longer. If that doesn't work I guess I will reflash 2.9

I think I remember also reading that was a possible fix, good call jcom. Before you do that though do a simple check, pull down the notification bar and make sure data is turned on, it will be the second icon from the right in the quick panel.

Hey running 2.6 is it worth updating to 2.9

Absolutely. Super fast, super stable, and it gets rid of the annoying little step of going to stock blue recovery first and hitting apply sdcard:update.zip. If you flash the 2.9 ROM through cwm, after that, whenever you boot to recovery you will go to the newest, correct, and stable cwm.

I already had the battery out I put it back in and the problem is solved. Thanks for the info. I am once again loving 2.9 :P

There is a patch on the first post that adrynaline posted on this thread. It includes TW launcher though, idk if you want the launcher or not, but the patch also includes the widgets.

Yea, I saw the post on the first page, and didn't want the launcher. I was playing around with the files earlier today in the zip file, to give myself a nice little shut down screen, and I think I can extract the file myself.. Hopefully this will work.? if not oh well. Thank you for your help lol

Thank you for your help, but yes, unfortunately, I don't want the launcher. i like the way SC looks without it, just kinda got used to the widget. I think I might know how to get it, so I will give it a shot. Worst I do, is brick my phone and have to reflash..

got my odin up where is the zip for 2.9 or the newest release

The 2.9 file that is in the first post in this thread is not flashed through ODIN, it is flashed through clockworkmod recovery (cwm), or you can use one of DroidXcon's ODIN files again located in his thread. The zip file is the ROM by itself which are flashed through cwm. DroidXcon takes the ROM and puts it into an ODIN flashable file. Normally I would say if you are not comfortable using cwm, just stick with DroidXcon's package, but 2.9 includes the latest cwm-all and DroidXcon was unable to get the ODIN package to work with the cwm-all in there which means you would have to flash that also through ODIN. When you flash the 2.9 ROM through cwm, you will get the cwm-all and from then on as long as you are running 2.9 or higher you will boot directly to red cwm-all without having to go through blue stock recovery and hitting apply sdcard:update.zip

You can't change the number of homescreens with the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) launcher included with superclean. Try launcher pro or adw, both allow more customization, including number of homescreens. They can be found in the market.
