Returned EVO Before 30 Days

First off I had very high expectations for this phone. 4.3" display, 720p Vid Rec, 4g!...this phone advertises as the mother of all phones. After a couple weeks of usage I decided to return the phone and wait for a better built device. Why? Heres the reasons:

1) 4.3" display - has a grounding issue that affects touch sensitivity

2) 720p camera - Extremely compressed to the point where SD looks better than HD. I know it's not suppose to replace my 5d Mark II but it should look and sound better than standard def.

3) 4g - This wasn't HTCs fault but rather Sprint. 4g coverage is extremely limited now and I feel like $10 a month (for the hardware or coverage...whatever Sprint wants to say that $10 is for) is a bit unfair. That's $120 extra a year...over half the amount most people pay for a smart phone out of pocket. I should be able to see where that $10 is going but I didn't.

4) 30fps Capped - This doesn't really affect me as I don't play games but apparently alot of people are pissed about this so I feel like it should be mentioned for those who are expecting an official fix and may never get it.

5) Uploading Video - Ok so I shot some footage on my Evo and I'd like to send it while on the go. What's this? "Waiting for Wifi Connection"???!! You have got to be kidding me. It's a given that phones should be able to send content including video away from Wifi! 3g is faster than some peoples internet at home!!! Come on!!

6) Light leakage - I've owned the HTC Mogul and Touch Pro and never had light leaking through the front of my phone. Why take a step back on build quality? I feel like HTC needs to slow it down when it comes to launching phones and make sure they are releasing quality products. At least they don't build cars!


So now I'm back to using my overclocked Palm Pre. It's fast, has Web OS, uploads content while I'm on the go, and makes waiting for a snag free "Evo" a little less painful. It was hard returning my phone. I love all the google apps, the speed of the phone, the display, but the issues were just too big for me. Once those issues are resolved I will have that $150 upgrade still ready to make a purchase. Will you?

Hey #2 and #5 your contradicting yourself. You cannot have it both ways.
Either you get uncompressed HD video or you get compressed HD video.
I think the phone takes awesome pictures. The lens is so small compared to a point and shoot.

I was first in line on June 6th last year when the Pre was released. I worked through all of the Pre's "growing pains", and stuck with the device even though at launch it had no video, no good way to delete multiple emails, no way to forward texts, wouldn't play animated GIF's in a text message (and it STILL can't do that), wouldn't play WMV video, etc....

all of the things I listed above, the EVO does OUT OF THE BOX!!
AND it feels like a nice solid piece of hardware.

the pre eventually got most of the things I listed above (but not all), but the phone itself was not very durable.. I dropped my first Pre on the floor in my house (first and only time I ever dropped my Pre) and the display wouldn't turn back on... my second Pre developed a problem with the power/ stand-by button..
I was afraid to be too rough with the phone for fear of breaking it! LOL

I started looking for a replacement for the Pre around November of last year, I considered the Touch Pro 2, but wasn't too impressed with many of the phones features.. so I waited.... I knew that I was going to jump from the Pre as soon as a suitable "replacement" phone came out...
I wasn't sure if Palm was going to make a Pre2 or something else, but my days with the original Palm Pre were numbered.

I would never in a million years go back to my Pre.... I can't even look at that miniscule display after having the EVO....
plus, so far, the EVO has done EVERYTHING the Pre did, only the EVO does it better, AND a few things the Pre could NEVER do!

It's simple, if you like the device keep it, if you don't send it back and be happy. No one cares if someone is leaving or why they are leaving. Yes, issues should be reported, but left at that.

The Evo is a great phone, there's no question about that.

+1 For the Screen coming from the Palm Pre it looks like a toy now compared to the EVO and for what its worth i am so used to the large display even my gf's moment looks terrible lol ...

As for the Pre, yes a great phone, also day 1 user here, and well updates made the phone better over time which i am hoping the EVO goes through, but you can't compare, really the only thing i miss is the gesture and cards but thats nothing that would make me go back ...

The fact that the EVO has so many more useful features and the app market is huge, and i think the camera is better but maybe not the camcorder (it really depends on the lighting as i have tested) the EVO wins in my book, but i agree other devices will be around the corner and make the EVO one day seems like the Pre now -

being a first gen true 4g device give it some time and than see, updates might make this thing even better, if not than jump ship, to jump now, way to early especially if we start getting some major fixes and add ons

Yeah my sister still has the original iPhone that only runs on EDGE speeds and she is happy as hell with it.. She got it brand new and she has had it ever since. It does every thing she wants it to do and then some..

I think that if you return the phone within the 30 days, you have to wait 60-90 days to receive eligibility for $150 again. Am I right?

I have had a Palm device since the Treo 600. I got my Pre the day it was released, by the time I got my Evo (June 4th), I was on my third Pre. The nightmares I went through with the Pre were enough to say that I rather have all those small insignificant issues people are complaining about the Evo, rather than going back to the Pre. And if by some strange reason I have to get rid of my Evo, I would NEVER go back to: the waiting time for every single application you open in the Pre, the random system re-boots it did (by its own!) too many cards, the hardware issues, the touch screen issues, the battery issues, the PDF issues, etc. the list is long?
