Returned GNex, back to DROID

This is my first smartphone, so I can't compare to otheres. Rooted and running AXIOM 2.1. I have had zero issues. No dropped calls, no random reboots, nothing that I would even think about as an issue. I think the LTE system may be to blame for most of people's issues, but that is not the phone's fault. If you are just going to go to a non-LTE phone, just turn off the 4g instead.

I hope you are right. It seems that certain 4g devices are affected differently. So maybe just because someones rezound/thunderbolt/razor is working, maybe that doesn't mean that the network is working correctly. I just want to make sure I don't have a bad device. I don't want to pull of my $13 skin, only to find that the replacement device does the same thing.

Really? I bought some jeans! Let's swap.

damn thought this was supposed to be a friendly forum (not just your post but others as well). Some people are having actual issues with their phones, just cause you're not doesn't mean others are not having issues. At work my 4g drops for minutes at time in an area where I get full bars on 4g otherwise. People in my office with other 4g phones do not experience this interruption unless verizon's network is down of course. Take a look at a typical day on my phone....that's enough drops to get very annoying. I was sitting in one place the whole damn day.

Lol.. If OP had asked a question or was having a problem and needing assistance, then it would certainly be rude. But OP posted having already returned his phone to go back to his OG droid.. because for some reason this fact was something he decided we all needed to know... Hence, I delve toward the sarcasm.

For you sir, I would say it sounds to me like you just sit in a crappy area of the office. No offense intended. Where I work I get lousy 4G coverage, and my phone will often switch from 3G to 4G or lose data altogether for a bit, causing pretty bad battery drain. I deal with it by bringing my charger or switching to 3G only at work to mitigate some of the battery drain. FWIW, my Bionic experienced the EXACT same phenomenon in the exact same location.

Interesting thing is, there is a spot about 5-7 feet from where I sit for work, if I walk beyond this spot then I will get uninterrupted 4G. Its silly, I know, but that's life. So I deal with it at work as best I can, because at least for me, most of the rest of my life I'm in areas of good coverage all over. And I'm overall very pleased with my phone and my battery life.

Moral of the story is, your very exact location can have a very big impact on your phone's signal and, therefor, battery life.

I'm basically at ground level by a window in DC, never had signal issues before. I've kept a coworkers phone in the room right next to mine, didn't drop all the time like my phone :(. I love the phone, but I do seriously think there is an issue with my radios, tried stock and leaked, no difference. Battery issues, I think that's just related to my phone signal issues, at least I hope.

Nexus pooped the bed so I'm returning it tonight. Activated my Droid X for today and the signal is 100x better.

NG couldn't open a web page in under 5 minutes at work. Droid X loads them instantly.

Going to take a long hard look at the Razr tonight when I take the NG to Verizon to get looked at.

I think it's fine for the OP to post his experience. It was real and to me it's valid whether I decide to keep this phone or not. What I don't like is when people project their reality onto others. It's not like the OP said "the GN sucks for me so it sucks for you too." I think the information the OP presents is valid and could be useful to someone at some point. No need to be sarcastic just because you don't agree with his reasons for returning the phone.

I have the 4g off most of the time. My phone has been getting awful 3g signals.

I returned my GNex and am now using my old DROID. I asked myself if I would be happy for the next year and a half with the battery, weak signal and poor call quality and the answer was NO. Here's to whatever comes out next with all the glitches fixed.

side note: Google Music is on here and it works better than it did on the GNex, wtf.

I'm sorry to see that you didn't like the Nexus. The phone is definitely not for everyone. That is one of the nice things about Android. It is not a one size fits all system.

I can't even stress how much better the signal is with the Droid X over the NG. Almost makes me wonder if I had a defective unit.

It's like the NG was on dial up and the X is on a cable connection. How can that be?

I have no idea because even though I get a subpar 4G signal in my office I still get speeds like this...

and like I said that's on like 2 bars in an office building with a ton of other large offices around.

That seems like the nexus was defective. 5 minutes to load a web page where a 3g phone loads it instantly? Def something wrong with your phone.

Yet when I'm home and I get a good 4G signal the phone absolutely flies. The only time there is an issue is when I'm in an area (inside an office building) that has a hard time getting a signal. Anywhere else the phone flies, but in my office the phones is more or less a brick while my coworkers with their DiNC's and Razr's have full 3G coverage.

Looks like most of the complaints about the signal strength are coming from people who owned 3G phones. This is a LTE issue and it's on Verizon not the Galaxy Nexus. I've had no problems with the phone. I just made a 600 mile road trip and didn't have any issues.

This is a good point. The only thing that bugs me about the Galaxy Nexus is that it stays on 3G at my house when my Thunderbolt was always on LTE. I never got great speeds on LTE at home anyway so I always used wifi, but it's still just a minor annoyance.

That's odd, because I've never noticed not having any signal at all.

Like I said it only happens in my office.

Seems like the phone does fine when there's a good signal to be had, but when it has to "reach" (for lack of a better term) it can't do so as well as other devices. If that make sense.

Those two devices do not measure signal the same.

Dude I know this.

I'm telling you that the Razr is able to go online and do things. Stream Pandora, play games, browse the web, ect.

The GN is not able to do those same things.

I'm not just looking at the bars. The GN isn't functional in the same area that a Droid X, Razr, iPhone are which are all on Verizon.
