Returning my Galaxy Nexus.

I have had the most amazing experience with my Galaxy Nexus and have absolutely no plans of returning it. Good luck on your search for the phone best suited for you!

How did this thread turn into a bash of the his opinion. Android has so many phones because people want different attributes in their phone.
I would be interested to know what he's looking for in a skin.

What is it that people miss?
I am asking this coming from a former Droid X user. The DX was my first smartphone. I did not root it but did use ADW most of the time. I am wanting for nothing in my Nexus.
I am truly curious what the skins add.

Sometimes you have to try for yourself to really understand. Pick up 4 different phones, with Sense, touchwiz, motoblur and vanilla and you'll have 4 difference experiences. There are things that the OEMs add and tweaks in the OS that makes the experiences vary from device to device. Of all, Sense is widel considered the best. I think as Android continues to progress there will be less need for the OEM UIs. But pick up a Nexus One with 2.2 Froyo and then pick up an EVO with Froyo and you'll see the huge difference and why OEM UIs are much appreciated by a lot of users.

It seems like you never wanted this in the first place. I mean all the things you listed would have been known from the get go. Maybe the iphone is your best bet.

Maybe previous Nexus UIs have been lacking but ICS seems to have fixed it. We can customize, add widgets and with no more of a learning curve than any other phone. I am wanting to go play with the other OEM skins now.

I think the OP wanted to give it a shot and it didn't work out. For some people it takes a couple days to get used to something and for others, they know in a short period of time they don't want it. I mean with as much as these things cost I don't blame anyone who doesn't have a good feeling from the beginning to give it back. I paid full retail for mine so I knew that I would have really had to like the phone from the jump to get it. I don't need to "grow to like it". The OP was just used to something a little more refined and Sense does that. Not that ICS isn't refined but this is even a big change from previous versions.

OP, just grab a rezound if you haven't tried one. I still have mine and it's a great device as well.

Well I was about to pack it up. But after playing with it. I am learning things I like about this phone. Returned the Razr to get this phone. The texting was getting to me til I figered how to make the haptic feedback stronger. Also changed the default keyboard to thumb keyboard. So it helps with the volume.
One thing I have found is that the camera has a lot better settings than the Razr which I like.
The Razr is snappier and has better signal strength.
So giving it a try. I do like the size of the browser, and the phone keypad.
On crazy thing that I do like is I can change my default settings on home screen app thaty I use which I couldnt do on the Razr, and I like the way the app drawer button is in the center of the screen.
The quality of the scren may be better on the GN but I think the Razr screen is brighter.
Its is a very close call between the two. But thats just my take.
Oh and one last thing for those who complained about the white balance on this phone u can go in and change that the camera does has nicer features and more settings than the Razrs

As someone who NEVER used any of the functions implemented by any of the skins I have experience with (Sense and Blur), I am totally satisfied with running stock Android. If it doesn't work for you, I wish you luck in finding something that will better suit your needs. However, it does seem kind of silly to give up after just one day. If you are calling it quits already, maybe a 20 minute test drive at the store could have saved you some hassle and money.

For those like me, not into rooting and roms, the "pure android" experience was a bust. Didn't do (easily) thing I wanted, such at placing shortcuts of specific files on my home screens, and required more navigation steps for some functions.

I may be wrong, but for an average user not going to use custom roms and stuff, a nice htc sense skin proved to be a more pleasant experience.

I just wanted to pipe in and say that as someone not into rooting and roms (yet), the "pure android" ICS experience is glorious. As someone completely new to the OS, it's easy for me to work with and I've found everything I've needed pretty quickly.

That said, we all have different needs, so to each their own! When I first started looking into Android phones, Sense appealed to me the most of the skins. It was between the Nexus and the Rezound for me, too. I went with Nexus for largely aesthetic reasons; there are so many great phones out there, and I hope you find one that suits you better than the Nexus!

I want this phone badly but if I have trouble dropping calls at home and keeping a 3g connection on my Charge, am I going to be SOL with the Nexus. Been thinking of getting the network extender but I really hate to get a phone with a radio that is worse than what I have.

I think I'll be joining the OP. I really love this phone...or should I say, ICS. For me, coming from a Droid X and an Iphone, the low speaker/notification/ringtone volume is not acceptable. I've missed calls both days I've had the phone. The screen is nice, but there is a slightly green/gray hue to the screen. Much worse at lower brightness.

More importantly, the signal strength issues is huge. I live about 20 from town. In town, I get great LTE coverage, but at home, I only get service if I stand in certain parts of the house or set my phone in certain areas. I've compared the signal db on both a Droid 2 and Droid X to my Nexus and it simply has worse signal strength. The signal strength is kinda a double whammy too because with all the time looking for a signal, it's eating away at battery life.

I really REALLY hate HTC sense but it seems that the rezound is the next best thing. :-\

I didnt drop calls in the area where my charge would have

Stay away for the Droid razr. The battery life is atrocious.

The Razr is what I will go back to if I decide that this phone is not for me.
I turned off the network and lowered the screen brightness and got over 10hrs with it.
Lets see how long any phone lasts with heavy web surfing and game play

People that are jumping ship after 1 day, do you think the other phones do not have bugs? I mean there are already 2 updates being tested that are said to help with many of the issues yet people want to switch. What if you switch and they issue an update and it fixes all the issues you had what are you going to complain about then? Going to cry that you switched to something else and should have kept the nexus?

Op although I LOVE my Nexus bar some issues I know what you mean. Might want to try out the Resound. The galaxy s2 devices are really nice also but no go on Verizon. Maybe the Note will come later

Always use the 14 days. It is just good business. :p

I can understand your reasoning as I do miss several of the sense features I had on my thunderbolt, but there are just way to many perks I love on this thing to justify returning it. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat as you, sense on my thunderbolt was great and I almost got the resound but man Im loving my nexus.

The RAZR is also a very very nice option.

Used an Incredible, a Thunderbolt and an Incredible 2 in the past 18 months. I'm done with Sense. It's fine and all, but was pretty much using a customized GoLauncher most of the time anyway. Sense is just too bloated. I'm done with skins I think. Tho the Rezound and Razr both look like fantastic phones.

Fact of the matter is...it's GREAT to see Verizon getting such awesome phones. I remember back in the early 2000's when Verizon was slow to the bluetooth party...they NEVER got the high end phones. Now they are getting everyone's best stuff. Awesome!
