Returning my Nexus 7! :/

I like 7 inch and nexus 7 tablets but I don't like tab 3 8.0. I am actually surprised that I don't like it because I thought that slower cpu and lower resolution will turn me off butcsuprisngly it does not. Tab 3 is really solid tablet

Sure I can see the difference but 8 inch screen suites me better
most. At the end what higher resolution is good for if the biggest android problem is that it's apps are made for phones

Of course if your most used apps are phone apps, you have a problem. They will be even larger and less sharp phone apps on your Tab 3.

However my most used apps by a wide margin are Interactive Brokers Trader Work Station, Kindle, Netflix, and YouTube, all of which are tablet apps and much more enjoyable and useful to me at twice the resolution and sharpness of the Tab 3.

To be honest three is not much difference but what I totally dislike about nexus 7 is that virtual buttons take away a lot of space from already small 7 inch screen. Google should have seriously consider physical buttons on the bezel.

If they used physical buttons, then it wouldn't be a Nexus device. Only manufacturers running their own skin on top of Android still use physical buttons.
Perhaps Google may go to physical buttons, but in the the mean time stock Android uses onscreen buttons.

I continue to find it interesting those who still find reason to knock screen size on any tablet regardless of make or platform. Tablets are not to replace a laptop which so many think they will. They are the in between option from smartphone or laptop/desktop. 7 inch display is quite nice and the on screen buttons don't cut into the screen that much in my opinion. Could be far worse.

As for the need to reboot that I put at 50/50 of user caused or software/app. Those running Android 4.3 should expect a few bumps in the road. Its fresh and will probably need an update or two to get things ironed out regardless of how much internal testing was done before they released it.

End of the day pure Google nexus isn't for everyone so its nice android has options like the carrier and OEM branded/skinned devices.

Sure I did not know that. At the end both tablets are great. Nexus is definitely state of the art.

God, please don't start the "physical buttons are better" argument again. There are already very few such devices so if you don;'t like it, don't buy it but that's one of the reasons why so many prefer Nexus.
The benefits of on-screen buttons have been discussed multiple times.

Regarding "phone apps on tablets". Here;s the latest research.

Not trying to pick a fight, but I find that to be one of the most misused arguments around the internet. The reason I say "misused" is because on the Nexus 7" screen this is totally not an issue at all. In fact, general apps not specifically designed for the Nexus 7 look just fine, and in most cases more than fine. Where the argument you just posed comes into play is on 10" tablets. The Nexus 7 screen is actually closer to phablet size than it is to 10" tablets. Phablets are just large screened phones and apps look more than fine on those too. Unless you're frequently installing little known and/or unpopular apps, then that's a different story

Let's put this into a perspective that's visual and realistic: Between an HTC One and a Nexus 7, we're talking about a whopping 2.3 inch difference in the scale of the app, spread around all sides. It gets even more silly to say this is an issue when you start comparing the same app on a Note 3 or Xperia Z Ultra to the Nexus 7. This is an issue?

Come on.

As for resolution, most people I know don't care about how the resolution makes ES File Explorer look lol. People like high res for multimedia.

Completely agree. For example, I actually love how TD Ameritrade app scales on Nexus 7. It looks just like on the phone but instead of just magnifying it (contrary to many iPhone users beliefs), I simply get a much bigger chart area (which is great) and a longer stock watch list (which is also great).

But as I posted above, he was proven wrong

I use my tablet almost wholly for reading text: books, e-mail, forums, and blogs. Moving from Galaxy Tab 7.7 (about 200 ppi) to the Nexus 7 (323 ppi) has been *huge* for readability. Text just renders so beautifully on the Nexus 7, it's even better than print on paper.

And yet it is easier to read on larger screen

Like you, I returned my 32 Gb and put another $30.00 on the table and purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0... My Gawd Man.. The Screen on this Tablet is INCREDIBLE! I held the 8.0 up against the Note 8.0 and even though they are suppose to be the same screen they are not... The Tab is much Sharper & Brighter.. 1080 HD my ***.. This 800 x 1200 puts the the Nexus 7 screen to shame.. yes it bigger.. and 8" is the OPTIMAL screen size.. I actually don't pick the Mini up as much as the Tab 3 8.0 I suggest you visit a local retailer and check one out.. Be sure to set it to full brightness and disable the adaptive screen sensor... The Settings Screen will be all you need to see to be Stunned.. and it's fast too!
I Love It.. In Brown of course.. :-)

Wow. How's your eye sight? Because if you think the 8.0 is better than the Nexus 7 it must not be very good. The nexus 7's screen is better in every way.

There is option in samsung display settings called "increase legibility". Actually results are substantial. It is beyond me why samsung would not turn this option as defaut

There is one thing I literally hate about the samsung. That is the fact that it is impossible to hold this tablet horizontally without pushing buttons accidently. This tablet is just not comfortable to hold at all. Nexus 7 however is totally different story.

At the end I did return Samsung and picked up nexus 7. I don't not mind physical keys. But the problem is that bezel is no narrow that it was impossible not to hit control keys whenever watching a movie

I am returning my Nexus 7 32gb tablet tomorrow. Glad I was able to print out an prepaid shipping label to return it. Will wait and see in the weeks ahead to decide if I want to pick another one up or pass on this.

Well, I received my Nexus 7.2 this week and I had all sorts of worries beforehand because of claims about display issues. The device turned out to have the most gorgeous display I have seen so far and I'm gushing all over the thing. Admittedly, I came from an iPad 2, no retina, so the difference is especially substantial. Still, I don't really get the complaints, but who knows, maybe I was lucky with my device.

It entirely ruined me for anything with lower dpi. Only downside is that I have to build up an Android app library now, so that'll cost a bundle to get where I was in the iOS universe, but I think in the long run this will pay off. More choice, lower hardware prices, and more freedom.

And did I mention how gorgeous the 7.2 is? :)

I have a similar situation....I have the iPad 2, my only ios device, and I'm going to keep it to compliment my N7.2. I also have a lot of ios apps. I've bought maybe 10 very good Android apps now, and lots of free ones. I think I currently have 70 - 80 apps on it.

I see the 9" iPad and the 7" Nexus as two devices, w/ different strengths, and do not plan on abandoning either.

It did take me 4 returns at Best Buy to get a good working unit (3rd return was because of the gps issue, which I wanted to wait until Google fixed it, for sure!!!).

IOS pluses: Stable, app quality, app availability, size of screen
Nexus pluses: smaller, HD screen, open Android OS, Google Services integration (notifications, etc.)

As I had problems w/ the Android OS AND the N7.2 build quality issues, I can really sympathize w/ people that still have some, like the touch screen.

And speaking of the touch screen..........the N7.2 touch screen response simply does not compare to the iPad's......that may be poor build quality, or just the size of the N7, or that Android simply has not caught up yet. What I'm saying is, the N7.2 touch screen response is not very good, but it's good enough for me to live w/ it.

I am really surprised by this statement. My Nexus 7.2 is as responsive if not more so that my iPad3. Just a light touch and things pop up on the screen and moving items around the screen is much smoother than my iPad. If you are seeing any lag you might want to try removing some apps. Also, make sure you have the latest update installed which fixes multi-touch and gps issues.

So after going through three nexus 7 devices i have decided to return it and get my money back, yes i am an apple fan boy but i gave the nexus 7 an opportunity and i really loved it, i liked i could play old nintendo games see flash player, google ecosystem but all tablets i have gotten have very bad screen bleeding, jerky touch screen and crazy reboot times! i might buy one again in a month or two when everything is work out, i really wanted an android tablet because it's kinna dumb having an iphone and an ipad which is the same in my opinion but if google/asus dont fix this issues then im gonna get a new gen ipad mini! im keeping the tablet another 10 days too see how it goes, thanks guys ;D

I am as well sorry to hear that you've had a bad experience with our tablet. It is really unfortunate that you had to return the units. In the future if you have any questions regards Asus or any of our products please feel free to contact me directly at cl-fred@asus.com.

Hmm, mine's as responsive as the iPad. Both feel the same to me. The N7.2 feels a little more plastic-y than the iPad (well, it is!), but it complements my "tech family" well: the 17" laptop for work and gaming, the iPad 2 for watching Youtube videos on the couch and using some apps that have no Android equivalents yet (e.g. SmartGo Books), and the Nexus for e-book reading (it's not an e-ink device, but for a backlit tablet it is comfortable to read on, at least at 0% brightness), light browsing, mail checking (I don't use a smartphone, just a regular mobile). I think my ideal display size for a tablet is probably 8", which might allow me to satisfy my tablet needs with just one device. Well, we'll see what the market comes up with. I'd want the same dpi as the N7.2 offers.

As for apps, most of what I need seems to either have Android versions or at least competent equivalents (like Emit to replace Air Video). Except the Go books mentioned above, I haven't bumped into anything yet where I felt I had to settle for something that works but is inferior. I'm still exploring, though.
