Getting tired of having to reset all my ring tones and notifications when I add or delete music on my sd card. Is it possible to add the tones I use to the phone's memory to bypass this issue?

Rooted Droid X.

Where are the stock tones located?

wow, never occurred to me to try this, but the logic is sound. the only thing that might stop you is the fact that the stock tones are .ogg files, so i dont know if mp3's would be able to work in this area. you could always give it a shot, though i would make a backup before messing with it. the file path is system>media>audio>ringtones. you could use root explorer to do this.

if anyone has attempted this before, might not be a bad idea to let us know if this works or not

'K, I've converted all the ring/notification tones I use to ogg and am going to try and transfer them to phone memory and see if it helps.

*edit*

Transferred over a test ring tone, and found that I had to reset the permissions on the file and reboot before I could use it, but I now have a custom ring tone in phone memory that works even if the sdcard is mounted via USB. YAY! :D

Wonder if I can safely get rid of the default tones I don't use. ;)

i would probably treat the default tones like bloat: rename if you must, but dont delete just in case

Think I'll just leave them as is, since they don't take up much space anyway.

This copying one file at a time thing is getting tedious, anyway to mass copy files on the phone, or access the system files/directories via USB connection?
