I've been using Google messages for the longest on all my Samsung devices

s25+: unfortunate, smart switch xfers all samsung messages to new phone, google messages doesn't!!

i had 1100+ messages from one contact in samsung messages, all xfered to s25+!!

friend using same s25+/google messages, very few messages xfered!!
fortunately, still able to access messages from old phone before dropping at verizon!!

I switched to Google Messages back when I had my s22U because I needed spam filtering, so I've been using it for a while.

I noticed Samsung Messages had an update last week, but I didn't open the app. I'm guessing they added the discontinuing notice. Lots of very unhappy users posting in the app's review section in the Samsung App Store.

I feel bad for them ...

Everyone I know just uses Whatsapp and probably have no idea what RCS even is.

Samsung Messages will be discontinued in July 2026. I DON'T WANT to switch to Google messages.

yes. obviously, I could be wrong. perhaps things have changed. I've had all messages populate via Google Messages, though that was a couple of years ago.

I don't know why the hate with Google Messages. I have used it for years and it works and works well.

But that is just me.

As for alternatives, a while back I used Signal, and there is a fork called Molly that may be good as well.

Best thing to do is to just try some and see what works best for what you are looking to get out of it.

I don't hate Google (I'm always tempted to try out a Pixel). But I do like options. I have (had) 7 different categories in which to sort all of my texts and used them constantly in Samsung's app. Google decided ages ago that I didn't need to have categories in my messaging app. Google decided that they knew better. (sounds like one Fruity company we're familiar with.) Such is life. Chevy has decided that a mid-size SUV doesn't require a 6-cylinder engine...that a 4-cylinder with a turbo works just fine. (it doesn't). Adjust and move on.

I find this latest update from Google & Alphabet quite interesting if not a little unsettling. The famous motto, later downgraded to mantra of, ‘Do No Evil’ has been removed in a recent update to their AI Ethical Guidelines released in 2018, updated in 2025.
