[ROM][2.3.3][ZVJ] GingerRom v1.3 -4/14/12-

1. Factory Reset does not erase memory card
2. FR will reset the apps moved to the card, whether or not the card is removed. Android places a "Bookmark" on the phone saying that the app is installed, so the app will not be listed on the phone either way.
3. To root zvj, you must downgrade to either zvh or zvd, but since you want ICS (CM9, in this case) you will want to downgrade to zvd, root with gingerbreak or any of the numerous rooting tools floating around, flash xionia (you could install CWMT, but since it doesn't support the antiquated scripting that some of the other zvd roms are written in, you'd best stick with xionia) then flash CAI.
4. I realize why xionia didn't give you the option to backup. Answer: you're not on xionia- you tried to flash xionia from zvj, which doesn't work, because you accepted the OTA update which automatically unroots you. Thus, you couldn't install a custom recov because you weren't rooted.
5. The reason your apps were there is because the OTA is designed to update your phone without erasing all of your apps
6. Wireless data connection message: I have no idea.

(Strange. I tried to reply from the phone, but it didn't work.)

Yeah, here's where I am now:
1.) After a bit of fighting (stupid thing didn't wanna cooperate), I successfully downgraded back to ZVD and thus Froyo 2.2; having to go get all those apps again is a pain in the nuts, however. Especially since several of them require the use of AppInstaller, lol.
2.) Using the automated tool found elsewhere on the boards here, I successfully rooted and added Xionia as well.
3.) Tried to get Cold as Ice...so far, this has been completely unsuccessful, however.

CORRECTION: It seems like it may not be rooted after all!! How in...when I used the automated tool after downgrading to ZVD and Froyo, Xionia and the gang were all there...but now, it seems to be GONE (it's back to a stock recovery), and attempting the Zenonia 3 zen cheat via Hex Editor was no go as well (you have to open the first "/data" folder, then a second "/data" folder that is only visible if rooted...and it's not visible on this thing.)

Strange. This is a huge setback, especially since I can't run that automated rooting tool from my crappy netbook (which annoyingly runs Windows CE and CAN NOT be upgraded AT ALL). So should I try to root this thing AGAIN?

Yes, I would try and reapply the root and xionia. Also, please dont hijack threads like this. Since you are having issues with achieving root, try posting in an appropriate thread. I know your original issue was with this rom. By posting in the appropriate threads you can get the best help.

Well, I didn't intend to hijack the thread. Sorry about that. Going to search for the appropriate topics when I have the chance.

Create a folder within system/sounds called poweron. Drop an mp3 called poweron.mp3 within it. That should work

Just a quick question. I am currently running the CM7.2 Port by thekraven. I used this to downgrade stock. I then used this method to root. I then ran DannoROM with Hydro Kernel, and then decided to run the other one. I then used this method to downgrade to zvd to run the kravens CM7.2. Can I use the other program in the DOWNGRADE method to go back to ZVJ so I can run GingerRom? I am getting a lot of errors with the CM7.2 port and want to go to basic Android and GingerRom seems to be the way.

Yes, use the same tool you used to root and update to zvj before. Just follow sfhubs guide again. I believe I had an issue running it without a stock based rom on the device though, so you may need something other the cm7 on the phone.

I am running the most updated version of gROM w/ ZVH and am going to give this a try for something maybe more updated.

Does this support data2extv4? gROM didn't have it and as I pretty much use it for a media/wifi device I am not sure i need it anyway. Just curious, because It has been over a year since I messed with roms on my optimus.

*edit: The touch screen was kind of wonky the whole time I was using gROM trying to select stuff and such so I cruised on here to see what else was new, hope it helps

Can't I just run the patch to switch it back to zvj in the thread that allowed me to downgrade from zvj to zvd?

Yes you can. But note that the does not downgrade you. It just allows you to get service. It was your terminology that confused me.

Does anyone have a link for the Hydro Kernel? I am desperate my phone has no service and I need to change the current kernel...Or if not, does anyone have a download link to a kernel that will work well with this rom? Unfortunately all of the above links are dead....Thank you in advance, I am going on 10 hours of trying to figure this out and I am getting very frustrated.

If your phone has no service its not a kernel issue.. you probably flashed a ROM that wasn't compatible with your baseband.

It has to be like this
Zvd = zvd
Zvj = zvj

Not
Zvd = zvj or vice-versa

Always check it before you flash a new ROM.

Well this is what happened....I switched back to my old Optimus S which was rooted with cm7. I hadnt used it in a few months...when I activated it yesterday, everything worked but the internet. So I flashed Dante Rom v4 and then thats when I started having issues w not having any service...I did back-up but I ended up putting cm7 back on my phone for now until I can figure out my issue...So I need to either find out how to make CM7 work or find a ROM that I can flash that will work...I did make sure they were ZVJ Roms which I have on my optimus S. I should also mention I tried to flash Ginger Rom and still had the same no service issue....any suggestions for me would be greatly appreciated I dont know what to do.

That's why cm7 is for zvd only, and danterom is zvj.

Its an easy fix just flash the zvd->zvj patch here on the opti s forums.

The patch names can get a bit confusing but it's..

Zvd-zvj if your on zvj
Zvj-zvd if your on zvd

Rom-phone in other words

Is there/where is a link for the Hydro Kernel?

I just flashed Ginger to my Optimus S and now I want to do as recommended and flash the kernel too. I have searched and Googled even without success.

Any and all help appreciated...

Boot to recovery, wipe cache/dalvik cache, turn off signature verification, and flash
