[ROM][5.07.2011][ED01]Community Rom V1.3

I believe you need to push three files to get that whole TW music player to /system/app for it to work.

These were the only files i found packaged from the SC patch:
MusicPlayer.apk
MusicService.apk
MyMusicLauncher.apk

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the idea! I already tried pushing all three files to no avail. Both of the "helper" apk's installed fine, but the musicplayer.apk still refuses to install (rebooting doesn't help). Do you think reflashing comrom (preferably without a data wipe) and trying again would help?

I don't believe that could hurt to try, but I'm personally thinking you need to use a root explorer to relabel the musicplayer.apk currently on the phone with a .old at then end and then you should be able to install the other one. I haven't done something like that myself, but I've read stuff about having to do that with other files, thinking this applies to this one as well. Hopefully that will work.

There are only a few ways I know of to change the icons in the top of the pull down notificaton bar (just fyi, that row of icons is called the quick panel.) One would be to learn how to theme so you know how to change the icons. The second would be to check out the themes and flash a theme that has icons you like in the quick panel. You could always put in a request to the devs to see about changing it, but I think for now they would rather spend time fixing any bugs anyone has found. Sorry I can't be of more assistance, but that is all I know for now.

Landshark, my bad for miscommunicating. I wasn't referring to just changing the icons (as in the look). I was referring to changing the actual shortcuts that are up there. Adding / removing / rearranging the actually shortcuts / apps / settings those icons represent. For example... Move auto rotate from the right to the left of wifi or something like that. Or another example... Adding say... A shortcut to words with friends or some other app.

I don't think this would be found just in a theme, no? If it is, then heck yeah. Point me to it, and I'll gladly try it out. Thanks again, and I really appreciate all your help!

I recently discovered the joys of Go Launcher EX. Soooo many options that they offer free including widget resizing. I'm running Go Launcher with a Honeycomb theme and I am loving it. You can even uninstall apps you don't want anymore right from the app drawer. It's pretty amazing.

USB Large File issues

I have been having issues loading large files or perhaps more appropriately, large amounts of files onto the sd drive of the fascinate since upgrading to the comm rom. It is the only issue I have noticed. I will cue up a couple folders worth of music files and randomly I will get a Data error (Cyclic redundancy, or timeout). This has happened on a desktop and laptop. Both computers havve the Samsung usb driver installed. Using 2 different cables. I have been able to load about 7 gig of files, but it aggravating because it is so random. I do not recall having an issue on vanilla or the DB/DO EB01 that I have used. The phone is setup to leave the screen on when plugged into usb. Have tried with debugging both on and off.

Phone is as follows:
Comm Rom v1.2
Modem ED01 achieved via odin to stock and then OTA upgrade to ED01.
Rooted
Voodoo (The Little Lady has a sweet voice)
Samsung MMS patch from this thread
I am using Go Launcher EX (Which is so sweet I don't have words for it!)
(Data issue occured before install of Go Launcher by the way.)
Oh and installed the calendar patch also.
Not doing anything with Voltage.
Think thats it.

The phone is running great other than that one issue
Battery life is a little better than on EB01
GPS works well, very snappy interface, in short I LOVE this rom in combination with the Go Launcher EX, it is AMAZING!!!!

Thanks to Everyone involved in this.

And thanks in advance for any thoughts on the matter.

Not to step over your question Socratic, that is interesting..not sure what the deal is there....

Where running about the same setup exactly..

The one minor issue I have noticed since coming to KB (ED01 modem from OTA) is there is a slight hum that will start when I am talking on the phone about 5 minutes into a conversation..I believe it has something to do with the Proximity sensor, as when I move the phone around (still holding it to my ear) it goes away. I can get it to come back if I move the phone around.. and go away if I move it around some more..

It also bumps the brightness all the way up every time the phone is in use. I know this isn't an issue with my face rubbing the status bar, as when I have it in my car cradle it does the same thing without me touching it at all...

Any ideas?

Have flashed this yet but is the updated swype theme better? i know people were saying it was hard to see sometimes.

They changed that issue in the patching. As long as you flash the patch you won't have that problem, it became just fine to see.

Didn't care for crysis, restored my nandroid..now desk clock is un-installed and can't get the .apk to install via app manager. Astro/Super Manager won't let me move the .apk file to the system/app folder.. any ideas.. what am I missing about this..

I had luck with Linda Manager from the market. I don't know why that one worked when the others didn't. I also installed ApkInstaller, which will scan your phone for APKs. I downloaded both programs and then was able to install the ThinkFree APK. I don't remember my exact process but between the two of them I got it to work. I think the Linda Manager unzipped it and the ApkInstaller installed it.

Same issue here. Minor irritation.

Comm Rom FAQ

I guess I'll just post it here. A mod could move it or I can edit it. *shrug*

First, this FAQ will assume you are familiar with the basics of rooting, roms, and using CWM. If you are not, you should go here and here first.

Second, I am also going to assume that you read the whole first post. If your question is answered by the first post, you may or may not find an answer here.

Third, for the most part this FAQ was only assembled by me. I am just an anal-retentive newbie with a high tolerance for tedium and way too much time on her hands. If you find anything quoted in this post useful, please follow the link back to the original post and thank that person.

Lastly, as I said, I am a newbie. Don't PM me with questions if yours isn't on here. Ask in the thread.

And now the FAQ:

What is included?
The community rom and nemesis2all's OTB reloaded kernel. This is a voodoo kernel.

Does this include the ED01 radio?
This rom does not include a radio. You will need to flash the EC01 radio with odin or do an OTA upgrade to ED01 before you flash the comm rom.

What size is the file?
The main file is 159,356kb.
Make certain you get the full download... Warning - just got done with a 3 hour nightmare with a corrupted download..

Will I be rooted once I flash this rom?
Yes.

Do I need to wipe data?
You don't need to if you are on 2.2 already. If you are on eclair you will need to wipe. The enchanced GPS will only work if you wipe data, and you will need to wipe it if you don't want Bing. No matter what you will have to wipe cache and dalvik.

Will a data wipe affect my SDcard/modem?
Your SD card will not be affected.
Only data on your internal drive will be affected. The radio will not be effected when you flash this ROM. Whatever radio you have before flashing will stick.

Is there an odin version?
Not yet.

What is voodoo?
Go here

Is there a non-voodoo version?
For those outcasts that want nonvoodoo :D

Make a Voodoo folder on your sdcard, and put a file in there named disable_lagfix before installing this rom.

Sorry for posting another method in your thread Adrynalyne, but many people are getting confused on how to create the disable_lagfix folder. For anyone who wants to run this on nonvoodoo, after you flash the rom and before you reboot you should be at the main cwm menu where "reboot system now" should be highlighted at the top of the page. Scroll to voodoo, power button, scroll to disable lag fix, power button, menu button or search button back to main menu page, power button on reboot system now. Done. No need to create the disable_lagfix folder.

Do I need to get CWM 3.x (orange)?
No. You should have CWM-recovery-all-3-30-fix.

How do I turn off autorotate on the homescreen?
Non rotating launcher patch provided by nitsuj17
nonrotatel2..zip

What do I do with the voltage app?
This is an optional app. If you are inexperienced, you may want to leave it alone. Below is a basic idea of what to do, but you should also read nemesis2all's thread here. You can also check here to see what people on the androidcentral forums have been using.

I was chatting with someone about it. Leave everything alone up top, so leave in "sio" and limit clock to 1000mhz. than with all of the settings keep in mind some peoples phones can underclock more than others. the person told me to start with all the 1000mhz and under so (1000,900,800,600,400,200,100) Make them all -50 to start with and see how it goes, if good than go lower if lagging than raise it up to -25 or to that effect. than soft settings key after all -50 where i said and do "apply for now" if working well for a day or so than do "save as boot settings" hope that helps guys.

What other themes can I use?
Quite a few of the themes have been working across all the builds (EB01, EC01, & ED01.)

Now that we have a stable build in ED01, it shouldn't be long before most of the themes get ported up to be ED01 compatible. Nitro's have been outstanding, and there are a lot of elements from nitsuj17's gingerbread theme already in this ROM

There are three themes that will work with certainty with this ROM.. other themes have exhibited FCs.. See link

Using the TSM slider on the 4tab unlock reboots my phone.
you have to go into the settings and change what that shortcut goes to ..go to menu/settings/TSM parts/custom app ...and from there choose what short cut you want the TSM tab to take you to

Calendar notifications are causing force close.
Okay here is a fix for the Force Close on the calendar notifications.. nitsuj14 identified that the theming of the calendar may be at fault and offered the TouchWhiz calendar unthemed - it works - no FC's...

Here is a link - Flash in CWM

Can I use a different kernel?
Maybe.
I have been using the ComaVolt kernel since Saturday during testing. Wanted to give the team input on different kernels. I have always had the best results from that kernel. NO problems yet.
Flash the ROM by itself, reboot and let the ROM fully load, then boot back to CWM, flash kernel, reboot.

How do I get the stock keyboard/mms/market/etc. back?
Ok. For some reason there seems to be a ton of confusion on how to get certain apps back if you don't like the themed ones in this rom.

All anyone needs to do is open up the ZIP file of a rom, (I recommend sc2.9.2 as it has everything people have been asking for) navigate to system/app in the zip, and extract the corresponding .apk for the app you want. Next, just copy the files you've selected to your sd card and with a root file explorer, move them to /system/app on your phone.

Here's a list of the ones people are asking for most:

Mms.apk - messaging
Vending.apk - market
Screencapture.apk - built in screen cap function (back + power)
MusicPlayer.apk - stock player that came with the phone (works with car dock)
DialerTabActivity.apk - stock phone dialer
LatinIME.apk - android keyboard
AxT9IME.apk - samsung keypad

If youre having trouble finding others, as sometimes the file name doesn't correspond directly with the app name, post back here. Ill try to keep up as best I can.

How do I get Hulu to work?
Dug around and found the thread with that hulu patch in it. Right Here

I remember when I put that on my EB01 setup, I had to go and uninstall updates to Flash player in order for hulu to work. 10.1 and 10.2 were the same.

The back button doesn't work when I am in contacts.
I haven't had the chance to flash the community rom yet, but before when this issue arose all you had to do was delete the contacts shortcut, reboot your phone, and create it again. Hope that works for you!

I wiped bstats and my battery still sucks.
Once you wipe battery stats, it will take a few charge cycles before you actually notice an improvement. Wiping the stats means the phone and battery have to basically "get used to" how you use them again, and that can't happen immediately. Give it a few days before pass a final judgement

How do I get voice commands to work with bluetooth?
For all having Bluetooth issues with voice commands...

I didn't want to post this here, as the package came from XDA originally... (credit to NitroGlycerine from the EvilFascination ROM) but I could not find it here. This is a package for Nuance Voice Commands compatible with ED01. It says Edify compatible, but I flashed it with CWM 3-30_all and had no issues. I tried using Adrynalyne's patch from SuperClean, but it would force close. I have since loaded Nitro's, and it works like a charm.

Nuance Voice Commands for ED01

Hope this helps some of you...

Thank you :) Let me know if I missed anything.

It's pretty good so far! But I did notice one thing that stuck out to me:

Will a data wipe affect my SDcard/modem?

That part you could add in saying that it will not affect the sdcard as the answer only describes the radio/modem. Just a suggestion to avoid people asking "Well what about the sdcard?" haha.

I thought that first bit, "only data on your internal drive will be affected" said it, but I can add more clarification if you think it's necessary.

Was this meant for me, and did this require any more follow up? Sorry if not.
