Does this improve Pandora's audio over 3g?

v2.3

- Quality issue of streaming audio corrected

-+-This part is only for those flashing off a wipe-+-
- Androidcentral.com is default homepage
- Added bookmarks for Androidcentral.com, the AC-ROM-Froyo thread
- Default email signature has been changed to "Sent from my HTC EVO powered by AC-ROM!"

Sorry i couldn't hear you, i was listening to the Deftones on Pandora over 3G ;). To answer your question, yes.

Thank you! I'm from Sacramento and a Deftones fan myself!

I have been encountering a weird problem. I dirty flashed over 2.3 over 2.2 and everything was good but I noticed Pandora still didn't sound all that great. So I decided to just do a wipe and clean install instead. After reboot, I noticed I was missing all the Sprint apps including visual voicemail. I thought maybe I installed the lite version by accident but that's not the case. So I restored my 2.2 back up and dirty flashed again. All my Sprint apps were back but Pandora still sounds horrible. Any ideas on why the Sprint apps won't install from a clean install?

ps - I'm using the normal quality setting in the free version of Pandora. Switching to high quality setting does improve the sound noticeably. I'm also using the aux line port directly into my stereo.

Nope, should work just fine. Hopefully someone who flashed 2.3 off a clean wipe will chime in (iamlillysdad) and let you know if they encountered any issues but none were noted in the testing. I will say i flashed a clean 2.3LITE earlier today and my voicemail is available and working. That is the only piece of Sprint we left in the lite version so its funny you specifically mentioned it.

What we did to correct it was edit the build.prop to prevent stagefright from loading on boot. You can verify this by going to the market and downloading a free app called "Android Terminal Emulator". once downloaded type the following:
su
getprop

You're screen will fill up with information but specifically what you're looking for is the line that says media.stagefright.enable-player [false]. This is a bit of a hack of sorts, although not at all dangerous to your phone. You will DEFINITELY notice better audio although it may not be as good as what it was on 2.1.

The good news is Google has posted the official changes on their git repository which enables coding for AAC+ and eAAC+. We will probably download grab the git, recompile it and include it in the next release but i make no promises.

Hope this helps.

Edited for thread cleanliness - Reflashing the ROM corrected this users audio issue.

I did indeed install from a clean wipe. I installed the full version of the ROM and everything looked just like it would if I first turned on the phone. All the Sprint apps were there for me to remove (or just hide). I had no problems whatsoever installing version 2.3 of this ROM.

If you can notice the sound quality difference (it should sound like a really good MP3) than the fix is there. If it isn't there it sounds like AM radio (to be polite).

[media.stagefright.enable-player]: [false]
[media.stagefright.enable-meta]: [true]
[media.stagefright.enable-scan]: [true]
[media.stagefright.enable-http]: [true]

Should they all be false or just the first line?

Can you also confirm the streaming audio sounds fine for you? It sounds great to me and beezy. Certainly doesn't have that tin can AM radio sound anymore :)

I can confirm this, but he/she has already confirmed that the fix is there. Sorry I didn't chime in sooner.

FYI - We should have listed it in the change log and will be updating it to reflect this change BUT, due to our work with the wireless tether team .... we had early access to the new wireless tether app (pre8) so we included it in 2.3. This means you can change the channel in wireless tether and it actually works. Use wireless analyzer (free app in the market) to determine which channel is the best in your area and change to that channel. Should improve speeds and reliability.

With all we've been working on and testing this kind of fell off the map so thanks for understanding.

Well I did another dirty flash and Pandora is sounding good again. I still can't figure out why my Sprint apps won't install on a clean flash.

P.S. I'm testing the newest update (freaking awesome BTW) and i did a full wipe and flash and still have the same results as previous tests and what iamlillysdad confirmed, everything works, so I'm not sure why your phone is acting wonky here.

Just to fullfill my own curiosity (and im not implying anything so don't read into this), are you using amen ra recovery or clockwork?

What's so awesome about the next up and coming update? eh?

First let me say this, we cannot maintain releasing ROM's at the rate that we have been. Nobody involved in this project wants to set the expectation that you'll get an update every few days. Most developers come right out and say that once the ROM is stable (which all of ours have been) they will release every 3 to 4 weeks.

With that said, LITERALLY while releasing 2.3 we made some awesome breakthroughs that we REALLY wanted to incorporate into 2.3 but also we really wanted to test the crap outta them. Now that we have them sorted out we cant wait for you guys to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

I will say this ... expect battery increase & performance increase in the next ROM. Our changelog speaks for itself and i feel (compared to some) we've been really up front about our changes and don't mask them with "battery increase" or "performance increase". We actually tell you WHAT we've changed because we did the work ourselves. All work on this ROM is original and we don't steal anything from other developers, In fact, we've kind of gained a reputation amongst some app developers as being open and honest which has opened some amazing doors. Keep in mind we were the first team to get wireless tether working on froyo, the first team (i think) to incorporate the streaming audio fix into their rom. The first team to bring you channel changing in wireless tether .....

As we've stated time and time again, we really want to give the people of androidcentral.com something to brag about. Something we all own. We hope you take as much pride in that as we do.

::Rant Over::

I'm using clockworck. At this point I'm happy with the Pandora fix and especially the AC ROM team for their great work. We can try and trouble shoot my glitch with Sprint apps via pm or continue on right here. I feel alone on this one! :P

reply from post 132

Hey beezie and everyone else thanks for the update on the audio fix. Just to make sure the ac 2.3 rom is the new version from the previous 2.2 right

Yes. Check the changelog attached to post #1. All of our updates will be fully documented in the changelog.

Is it possible that chewdz is running a kernel that is preventing them from installing? Or that something from another ROM (highly unlikely I know if he wiped everything) is causing them to not install?

I'm just trying to come up with random ideas now. :)

don't feel alone. i don't have the same problem as you, but that sort of thing seems to happen to me a lot. having a problem nobody else has. it usually sorts itself out, though, after a few installs. sometimes it takes installing one ROM and then going back to the ROM i want to use. it's weird.
