Playing with Zeam right now. Thus far it works MUCH better than AM. Its a "little" laggy when scrolling but hardly noticable, and so far it doesn't care how many shortcuts I throw up, rotation is spot on every time. Digging its customization too. I can def. See a very small drop in overall performance, but the tradeoff in usablity is worth it. Phone is almost perfect now, just wish twilight didn't have that freezing bug when charging with the phone off.

What is necessary to wipe when flashing a new kernel?

No wipe required to flash kernels.

For ****zes and giggles I flashed the latest test build of Genocide kernel. So far it runs extremely well, other than losing my root lol. It feels a bit snappier than before, quadrant went up a hair (not that I put much stock into benchmarks) and so far haven't found any glitches. Just gotta figure out how to get my root back now

Flashing back to Twilight 1.01 restores my root, but its definetely a tad sluggish compared to Genocide. Maybe once the new ACE is released and the new Genocide becomes official I'll wipe and start over, but for now I think ACE+twilight+zeam is as close to perfect as its going to get. Its too bad Genocide 0.3 doesn't have the keyboard fix because I like it better than twilight.

You probably have an error on your SD card... Try to back up all your data on the SD card and format it then load everything back on it then try again i bet you get a better result...

You get errors on the SD card when you unplug it from the computer with out ejecting it first. You should always eject any type of hard disk memory card/stick before unplugging it...

So I followed all the steps here to get my phone rooted and have ext4 (http://forum.androidcentral.com/epi...c-4g-official-froyo-eb13-w-optional-ext4.html) and everything worked perfectly.

Now I'm having trouble using the ACE rom. I downloaded ACE 1.7 onto my SD card, but I need help from there.

When I go to install zip from sdcard > choose zip from zipcard > ACE ROM 1.7.zip, then yes to the install, I get an error. It says E: cant open sdcard/ACE ROM 1.7 zip (bad) Installation aborted

What am I doing wrong? Im not sure exactly how to load the rom but I was assuming you just go to it through the sd card in clockworkmod recovery.

rerun the root tool thats what i had to do its easy enough and all was good after that

Hey paul when i did this try Twilight with ACE, and then i wanted to return to Genocide, after flashing geno it kills my Root :<, and when i flash Twilight back, It has Root.

Are you referring to the Genocide test build kernel v04a ? I ran it for a few hours back about a week ago. Didn't loose Root at the time.

hey i FINALLY got it to install doing a ODIN backup to old, and working.

Had a little trouble getting backups to work and stuff but seems to be getting there. This phone is a pain in the ass compared to my EVO.

I can not get the background to change though.... is this supposed to be like that? how can i get the background to change because I go chooses one but it wont change. I can get it to change to a LIVE WALLPAPER, but anytime I choose a picture it defaults back to the one shown on the screen shots.

Wallpaper:

Long press on homescreen>Select Wallpapers>Then again Select Wallpapers>

This will bring you to the wallpapers installed inside the AMLauncher, scroll threw and hit SET WALLPAPER.

the problem is it DOESNT WORK lol

it says SAVING likes as if its changing the wallpaper, but it never changes. Only LIVE WALLPAPERS work.

Has to be something with the ROM but doubt its common if nobody else has complained about it.

Yeah its 0.4 build. Worked very well for me othber than the root issue.
If I rerun the root wouldn't I have to wipe and start over? Don't particularly wanna be back at square one again lol.

Well I'm not sure what else your trying to achieve because I can switch wallpapers all day long from the AMLauncher as I mentioned or pick them right out of my gallery...

Just for the record I've rooted and rerooted my phone more times in the last 4 or 5 months than I want to remember. I've used Odin enough times to make me sick and I flash ROMs, themes, addons for testing purposes probably an average of 5 times or more each day. There have been days I've probably Odin/rooted/flashed a ROM and repeated the process 4 or 5 times... But thats just me, that is what happens when your a flashing junky like myself and have to test and repair things for all you wonderful users!

Back to the question at hand, there shouldn't be any problem with ACE, I've done only light modifications to the ROM and nothing has involved changing anything that deals with wallpaper picking or how it is actually performed. Anything else you can provide to help you out, I'm here and listening...

Just a thought - what LAUNCHER are you using? I've had trouble with launcher updates screwing with background selection in the past... usually rebooting my phone helped- but it was the launcher that was the problem.

No I don't believe it will wipe your phone, in the case of CWM3/EXT4 process it does a backup and restore of your phone during the process so at the end you should be left with what you started.

I would make a backup of your stuff just in case.

Tried Zeam. Seems to be working very well. Have to see when fully loaded.

I like it a lot honestly. Once I can get a kernel that fixes the last odd couple glitches I think it'll be about perfect. At least till we can get gingerbread up and running lol

Thanks Paul. just flashed the ace mod and my epic is running rock solid. this is my first mod and i really like how effective and effecient it is. my battery life and gps are both signficantly improved and i no longer have the wifi issues i got after updating to froyo through the update.zip method. i can barely believe its the same phone.

Paul, do you know of any substitutions for the SMS/MMS (messaging app) that comes with EB13, and have you thought about replacing it? I love your ROM but I hate the EB13 mms app. Handcent SMS has repeatedly resulted in partial wake usage that kills my battery as has GO SMS. I use SMS Popup for notifications, and liked (alot) the 2.1 messaging app. This new one with bubbles sucks though...

I might try grabbing a 2.1 MidNIGHT build and see if I can just install the MMS apk from that (perhaps DK28? Ive never used it, so I dont know what the MMS app looks like).

Check XDA, the Themes section .. There is a thread fairly new over there that has modded/themed Mms.apk. I was going to check them out I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
