The nascar.apk under ACE ROM extras>sprint/samsung apps won't install... any ideas?

Did you move it to your sdcard and click on the file in Astro or other file explorer? It should self install.

Question: I have all of the Genocide, Black Theme and ACE 1.7 zips on the hard drive and have the EB13 Deodexed DUALFS (pre-rooted) zip already on my Epic with CWM 3.0.6. I want to now flash ACE 1.7 with Genocide to it but have a few questions:

Is this going to keep the bulk of my phone's data intact or am I going to have to restore from Titanium? Will my contacts, K9 email and all that jazz be "intact"?

personally i use latest CWM and then i have adwlauncherex. your contacts and email (at least gmail) should back up automatically as soon as you log into android, which is one of the definite perks of this OS. k9 im not sure about. ive never used titanium backup and never had to. i gotta reinstall all my programs, not a big deal (i use appbrain and just click 'install all'). ADWlauncherEX backs up all your homescreen settings, custom shortcuts, etc etc. you gotta reload widgets tho. between titanium and CWM you should be okay. SHOULD. (no guarantees)

SetCPU is a paid app - you'll have to buy it on the Market or use the free Overclock Widget instead.

the publisher also offers it free to XDA members.

When I try and flash twilight it gives me: can't copy META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary. And then aborts.

ive had that happen with roms/themes/etc before. have you flashed anythign else recently? sometimes there are little errors caused by stuff you flash that you dont notice. when i am trying to make a new big change to my phone i sometimes end up going back to my nandroid backup (ALWAYS make one just prior to any changes) because i screw something up. i also learned with EmotionlessBeast theme that while not necessary to do... wiping cache/dalvik cache 3x (NOT DATA. i will repeat that.. NOT DATA. if you wipe data you loose your rom too.) before flashing a theme seems to help sometimes. othertimes i just erase everything and reflash it all. not hard to do. ive done it while driving to work. <20 mins everything is erased and re flashed back to how i like it.

Hey paul when i did this try Twilight with ACE, and then i wanted to return to Genocide, after flashing geno it kills my Root :<, and when i flash Twilight back, It has Root.
wtf?
did you make a nandroid backup in CWM? just restore it if you did. it will restore kernel and everything. no nandroid? i'd just wipe3x and reflash ACE and geno (and whatever else you do for custom flashes)

Yea its already on my sd card and I thought the same thing, that it should self install when I click on it, but nothing happens, I've used ES File Explorer and Root Explorer.

I just tested.. Same Samsung/Sprint apps zip you are all downloading, moved the nascar09_prod_release.apk to my sdcard and opened Root Explorer tapped on the file and it brought up the window giving me the option to install. Installed in a sec. No prob.

ES File Explorer and Astro worked also...

Ahh I feel dumb now sorry. Lol. I didn't extract the sprint/samsung apps folder. All fixed now, thanks!

Yep, and that is where I got it. Working well with Twilight 1.0.3 kernel on ACE 1.7 at 1.2Ghz. Don't know why the baked in Genocide .03a kernel in ACE 1.7 would not go above 1Ghz for me. When using Genocide .03a with TER on EB13 I was able to get a 1.2Ghz option. Just quirky. I supposed if I reflashed .03a it might have fixed itself. Anyway, at this point everything seems to be running very smooth!

what is the purpose of the "Stock EB13 Dual Filesystem [EXT4/RFS] Kernel (Credit Dameon87 - xda developers) (Flash in CWM 3.0.0.6)" from post #2? Does it provide better performance/compatibility?

Does anyone know the answer to what this does?

@all

Just to let everyone know I am in the process of testing the CIQ removal on ACE as we speak. I will report in over the next day to let you all know how its doing, but so far so good with the current setup from v1.7 with the CIQ removal added and running the Twilight Zone kernel.

Paul, are you going to let us know when you've completed your initial testing? Lookin' forward to flashing Twilight (for the keyboard), but don't want to do so until you've put it through the paces with ACE. Thanks

Problem with AMLauncher repopulating/reloading icons when changing orientation

Thanks ... I forgot about the separate cache for AMLauncher. I had cleared the cache through CWM but no results. Clearing AMLauncher cache seems to have worked. I'l report back if it re-emerges once I put back all the icons.

I agree about AMLauncher ... stable, simple, and light. That's partly why I installed ACE.

While this worked initially, I have run into the problem again of AMLauncher being slow to repopulate/reload icons on the home pages when toggling orientation.

I do not experience this problem and AMLauncher works fantastic if I only have a limited number of icons on the home pages, and rely on the launcher button as the primary access to the apps.

However, I like to fill my home pages with icons and use the home pages as the primary access to my apps. However, when I fill the pages with icons, AMLauncher is slow to repopulate the icons when toggling orientation and accessing a home page.

This problem can be recreated by having your home pages filled with icons/shortcuts to your applications. Go into an application. Open the slider and go into landscape orientation. Then either push the home button or close the slider and toggle to portrait orientation. Doing this, or similar toggling of orientation while trying to access the home page causes the problem.

Anyone else experience this issue? Thanks

Go right ahead and flash Twilight kernel its perfectly fine. I used ver. 1.0.1, I have heard its better overall than v1.0.3

Yes I have this EXACT problem and its really getting old. I'm at the point of trying to figure out how to change launchers to see if it will help. I like the way AM is laid out, but having to wait 30 seconds for my icons to come back every time I use the keyboard is making my phone unusable. Anyone know another launcher that may work better?

You could try Launcher Pro or Zeam. There are others too..

To switch between Launchers easily you can grab Home Switcher from the Market. This app will make switching/managing launchers easier.

On the launcher subject. That is one key secret to the speed of a ROM. Besides how a launcher handles multiple home screens and shortcuts that is also what can slow you down too.. More junk you have on homescreens takes longer to load up regardless of what launchers you use. They will all have lag, just some will handle better than others.

The thing is the problem comes and goes. If I use task manager to clear the RAM the problem goes away the first time I flip the screen, and then comes back. Sometimes the icons will flash on the screen then disappear again until I switch homescreens. I had it completely hang once and I had to reboot. I love the launcher and don't want to have to start over with a new one but its really crippling my phone. Also, I went to clear amlauncher's cache and it didn't have one: it showed it as 0.00 bytes. That seemed strange to me.

Well I just established I can only have about 8 shortcuts total across the 5 screens before the lag starts getting out of hand. I'm going to have to try a different launcher and hope I find something.

Its funny you did this. Just for kicks I loaded up about 30 shortcuts/icons across my homescreens and the most I ever would get is literally a second of lag switching landscape to portrait or opening closing the keyboard and also when exiting an app and returning to my homescreens. Ragnarokx and I had a few complaints with this also on TER and never could reproduce it. Were not sure what you guys do to achieve this lag but we can't seem to duplicate it ever. I'm not running anything special either, doesn't matter which kernel I flash it all works the same with the AMLauncher.
