[ROM] Android Open Kang Project

I always use the 512 franco kernel and flashed aokp 38 yesterday. 100% battery at 9:30 at night. this morning at 4:30 phone was dead....was late for work....not happy.

What's the difference between the 384 and the 512?

I'm on 512 now. No problems at all.

OK so I want to do the Franco Kernel, nightie 180, I have read he had some issues with dimming and color issues, have these been worked out before I install?
:D

You will notice that I thanked you for that answer lol

I couldn't help myself, lol

Seriously though, it's not a clear cut answer. Different phones have sometimes dissimilar reactions to the same frequencies/voltages. The unfortunate truth, is that you have to experiment to find your sweet spot. IMHO, unless you do a lot of gaming on your phone there's no need for the small boost to the GPU. Matter of fact, I've never had any games I've played on my Nex suffer from lag anyway. I always use the 384.

Nothing wrong with the 512 at all. I just don't need/want it :)

Help Help Help, I started to goto to build 38, rebooted to recovery, did a backup, started to do the wipes, went to advanced and all I get the droid with blue thing swirling, hit power button back to CWM tried to click restore same thing. what do I do? I dont want to reboot with a rom and freeze the phone.

OK so I got it back and was able to install AOKP Build 38 and Gapps, still cannot get it to install vz app and nfl apk but will try during lunch or later today when I have some time. (Thanks to Nova and sms backup both are great apps!!)

Very nerve racking when the phone freezes and still consider myself a noobie with flashing, might be some time before I do it again (unless a milestone), but I want the Franco Kernel if it is a clean kernel now.

Xanth : )

@xanth CWR does that when you scroll over a couple times and hit power. Just hit it again and scroll til it says unpaused. Then update to the 5.8.0.2 touch recovery (or TWRP, much better) so you won't have that issue again :)

Rom Manger is v5.0.07 and flash CMR is 5.5.0.4 what is TWRP? or should I just get use to reboot/recovery with vol up/dw and power button?

re: franco kernel.... i see everyone mention that its $2, yet i see it for $2.71 on play. not that i care about the 71 cents, just want to make sure i am looking at the right one!!! is this the right one? https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ils?id=com.franco.kernel&hl=en&token=hWRFx6ey

so do i just purchase this app, and it will do everything for me? is there a thread with optimal settings, etc? lastly, presumably i would have to restore from nandroid if i want to revert to stock AOKP kernel?

That's the right one. For some reason I thought it was $1.9X?

It will let you auto flash franco's nightly releases, stable/milestone releases, imoseyen's Leankernel nightly releases, and Leankernel stable releases. You get a whole range of controls for the CPU, voltage, etc. You get sound control and screen brightness control.

For settings, he has defaults which are implemented automatically. You can deviate from those based on preference; I recommend picking a setting and giving it a day so you can truly judge it once it "settles."

once again, in english please ;)

The franco app supports two "general" kernel developers--franco and his franco kernel and imoseyen and his LeanKernel. You get the option of auto-flashing (from within the app) franco's stable releases (milestone builds) and nightly releases (sometimes more experimental), and imoseyen's stable releases (milestone builds) and nightly releases (again, more experimental).

So essentially, you can flash 4 different kernels. And that's not even including which GPU MHz you pick (pick 384, BTW, it's safer).

Imoseyen and Franco are two developers... lean kernel is the name of Imos kernel. Nightlys are test versions but still work great. In between test versions (nightlys) they will put out a stable version which is suppose to be bug free.

looks like franco is the aokp crowd favorite... so is there a difference between franco's and lean? what are the benefits of one over the other?

Lean has never acted kindly with my device, and I'm not sure why. Past that, im sure there are little things. Franco packs so much into his kernel that it's hard for anything to be 100% similar.

I choose franco b/c (1) the dev is awesome, (2) there's always support for it, and (3) it seems to always be on the cutting edge of new kernel developments.

ok cool gotcha. thanks for clarifying dmmarck and cyber warrior.

if i run franco on default settings with B38, how much better can i expect the battery life to be?

Hard to tell; depends on personal usage. I recommend giving every new kernel a day or two to settle in before you make any judgments.
