[ROM] Android Open Kang Project

Flashed AOKP today and I'm still tweeking things around. Love it! Running build 21 and having Nova Launcher built in is awesome. I'll probably stick with this for a while.

Yeah aokp is pretty awesome. I just flashed redemption rom for something to do, and holy s it was [relatively] boring. restoring aokp as i type this...

Just flashed yesterday for the first time and I have been on CND and there pretty close in performance and features. I do like the fact that AOKP has much more themes and mods available.

Help with flashing AOKP

I am having a problem with flashing the latest AOKP build #21. For whatever reason it doesn't overwrite the old rom. I flash, then when you check the build it still shows build 19 with franco's kernel which is what I am running now. I downloaded the file from 5 different sources on rootzwiki and the same thing happened with each one. I thaught it was my phone so I tried the latest codename rom and it worked perfectly. I then tried to flash AOKP over that and it didn't over wright codename either. I even tried to restore to my first original backup and it still wouldn't install.
I really prefer AOKP over Codename I hope someone can help.
Also, I did download the files directly to my phone then use astro to move the files to the root directory. I have done this with most of my roms and I've never had a problem.

I've never had a phone with so many choices. I am a habitual rom/kernel flasher so I think this phones best attribute is the sheer volume of stuff to flash, not to mention the ics platform is great. Hard to think of running Gingerbread again.

Been eyeing the liquid rom or the foxhound rom, but for now aokp is all good. Besides, roman is the creator of much of the mods which the other devs use in their roms.

On my previous phone, the charge, I kept a rom and kernel for months just cause that was all there was. This is the bestest phone ever! :p

Re: Help with flashing AOKP

Seems like you are doing all the things correctly to flash a rom. The problem you're having is totally wierd. Check md5 maybe.

Also try searching the aokp bug/issues site or posting a new issue...I know roman checks there and maybe he can help.

I don't see any download links for milestone 3 on that page.

Go to the [Rom] aokp thread thru the above link (the rootzwiki page) - from there scroll down to download link and click that -
that brings you to the builds download, but if you look on the left it says "Milestone" and below that it says "builds" or something like that. on the left side, click milestones, and it will bring up the milestone 3 download.

Or you can click here:

Can I still use TiB to restore home screens when Nova is baked into the ROM? The only reason I use Nova is to backup the home screens.

Milestone 3 is basically b21 with a couple extras - under the hood stuff mainly i guess but noticeably you can now separate the sms vol and call vols.

21 was smooth/everything good for me, and the same goes for m3 - no complaints here.

----------------
Also today applied a transparent status bar and softkey bar mod - attached a few pics of my homescreens i took messing around in class today.
run down - aokp milestone 3, transparent bars mod, bw suku ics clock, and nova launcher/multiple docks.

Can I still use TiB to restore home screens when Nova is baked into the ROM? The only reason I use Nova is to backup the home screens.

I thought you couldn't do homescreen backups with TiB, only MyBackupPro -
but, if you can do that and im just not aware of it, i dont see any reason why it wouldnt work with nova launcher (essentially you would just be restoring data to nova i presume).
But, if you make backups in nova of your settings, it puts your apps back on the homescreens for you, as well as all your nova settings aside from that.

Hope that answers your question

I love this ROM and I like all of the new additions to M3. The only issue I had I can't determine a fix for because the problem itself is so inconsistent. With one update I am able to post on Facebook and play Cut the Rope and then with the next release, either app works properly. I have uninstalled both apps and this doesn't seem to fix the issue.

Any suggestions

EDIT: Also using the latest Franco kernel.

Kinda. As I understand it you can't use TiB to back up home screens because they are system settings and should not be restored after a flash. But Nova Launcher is an app, so you can restore it's settings after a flash. I haven't flashed since I installed Nova, so I haven't tested this. But I think it is supposed to restore home screens that way.

But if Nova is baked into AOKP, then I think the question is whether the home screens are stored as system settings or in app data. If it is system settings, then I don't think you can (or should) use TiB to restore after a flash. If it stores home screen information in an app then it shouldn't be a problem.

Can anyone confirm?

Never tried to back up Nova using Tib and not sure you can if it's in your system/app but I don't have any problems restoring my Nova backup with any ROMS I've used which are CND and AOKP. I do have to restore the widgets each time but my app's location and changed icons all restore perfect each time.

If anyone likes black and white theme's make sure you check this one out.

I dont know, for nova specifically it seems like it would be app data, but i havent tried - because Nova itself backs up your settings for the launcher, so if you back up with nova in nova settings, you can restore them back to nova on any rom - it doesnt matter if the rom is baked in or if you sideload nova the old fashioned way.

So, i think you could make a backup with recovery and test out TiB for restoring app data to nova, but i dont see any point to doing that, as nova will backup its own settings, and they wont be erased when you wipe data bc theyre stored on the internal storage (sd).
