[ROM] Android Open Kang Project

I downloaded the rom and gapps from the AOKP website. After booting up, I was missing the camera and calendar apps. not sure if I was missing anything else. I ended up restoring back to stock.

Did anyone else experience this?

You could have also tried to reinstall GAPPs? Never heard of those missing, however.

Do random reboots go away with AOKP running 4.0.4?

Have you been running any other 4.0.4 roms? If you are just stock then yes, the random reboots should go away. It did for me. That was my only major issue other than low speaker volume. Fixed that too.

bugmailer is back!! argh. i absolutely refuse to believe that restoring data from Temple Run is causing this issue.... thats the only data i restored from nandroid backup.

oh well, bugmailer disabled in rom control and im happy with b35

Try running without your case and see if it goes away :)

I just flashed B36 in prep for installing a custom theme but I am unfamiliar with this "Bugmailer" problem, can you or someone else enlighten me?

P.S. I do have temple run installed and I back up the data for it.

Something about generating an email with a screenshot. I think only nycinek has this problem. He explains what it is here.

Totally strange issue.

So, I'm running AOKP, along with the lean kernel, and honestly, I'm not noticing much (if any) improvement in battery life. I suppose it's slightly better (about 1-2% higher than it'd normally be), but not by much. Is there something I'm missing...? Not to sound like a complainer, or anything; honestly, the battery life has always been perfectly fine for me, even on stock, I just thought running a good ROM/ kernel combination would help out a bit.

Also, it seems like the phone gets hot much more often (and more quickly) than it used to when I was still on stock... What's up with that?

Oh, and just a general ROM question, but once I flash something in recovery, can I delete the .zip file off of my phone, or do I have to leave it on there?

Edit: One more "general" question... If I flash a future milestone ROM, will it reset all the settings I've made in the ROM control?

Any suggestion on a wireless tether app to use with AOKP? Or is that even necessary (I just went AOKP yesterday and am still digging my way through the settings...)?

It comes built in. Look in the toggle settings under ROM Control and enable the Wifi AP toggle. It will appear in your notification area as another toggle.

1. I havent noticed much better battery either, however I also always had decent battery life. I guess it just varies on what you consider "good".

2.I have not noticed my phone get any hotter than it normally does. Are you using your phone more with the new ROM (exploring features and such) than you did with stock without realizing it?

3. after you flash the zip file in recovery, you do not need to keep the zip file on your phone. I make it a habbit to delete them immediately. I dont like clutter.

4. flashing a new milestone rom WILL reset all of your settings unless you do a dirty flash (flash directly over the old ROM without wiping data/factory reset, wiping cache and wiping dalvik) However doing a dirty flash between milestones is NOT recommended as it could cause issues with the new installation. the good thing is you can use titanium backup to back up your downloaded apps and data (you should never backup system apps and data) and you can move all of your SDcard files to your computer before the flash, both of which will greatly reduce your set up time. I just flashed b36 from M5 last night, took me an hour to set my phone back up, which really isnt bad considering all of the crap I have on it :)

I got Milestone 5 on phone along with GAPPS, ready to flash and try something other than Bugless finally. I just can't get a Nandroid done, I found my issue but the fix for others doesn't work for me. This is what I get, either using ROM manager or going into recovery to do a Nandroid.

If I try to do a backup, Recovery stops with an error when it gets to ".android-secure".
Error: "Unable to find volume. Error finding an appropriate backup handler."

I have read that finding the .android-secure folder and deleting it works for others but I can't find it on my device, using Astro or PC I can't find that folder?
