[ROM][AOSP][4.0.3] Codename Android 1.5.5 [Full Open Source]

someone in another rom thread said this one may stop being developed for stealing others work?
I hope another one of these type things don't happen AGAIN!

I'm definitely donating to this dev team...they are doing unbelievable work for a "hobby"....man I love the Android community.

Amen.. These guys do a great job putting stuff together and really trying hard to please everyone. It's awesome too that they're doing all this for multiple devices and even posting tutorials to encourage more prospective devs into joining in the fun.

There's some cool stuff coming soon and a lot of "under the hood" improvements for speed and batt life, etc.

any thoughts on what would be release in the new update? im getting amazing battery life with 1.3.3 :)

This is what I saw/found posted thats part of what will be in new update : In the quoted box below :

he's still working on settings.

things to look forward to

revamped settings (faster working better)
More features in settings
kernel specific settings
updated faster kernel
on/off UI tweaks (hopefully)
Bug fixes
USB-Serial Support
Louder Voice in VoiceDialer.apk
etc..

his main focus this past week seems to have been revamping the settings or CNA settings to work better for tablets and gnex. his primary focus is gnex and xoom. so if it doesnt work on both, he doesnt push it. I'm working with him on his sharing skillz lol, to push things more frequently so i can help him during his tasks. but its a hard habit to break when you have been coding yourself for a while. some of the update above might seem miniscule to most, but there not. the over all ROM speed will improve features working the way they should. and hopefully we can squeeze in this one last feature before he builds a test release

Personally, I think that codename needs to make more frequent releases with fewer fixes/enhancements. I think that would keep more of the flash addicts satisfied so they don't jump ship to another ROM. Unfortunately, You can't tell ROM developers anything like that...they seem to be a pretty sensitive bunch. The one thing I like about KANG (never used the ROM myself) is how they run the updates. Pretty frequent with less frequent Milestones versions that have most of the kinks worked out. That way they satisfy the people that NEED to flash as well as those don't want to discover the bugs.

You can't please everyone. Half the people would complain about needing to wipe every couple days for an update.. Make updates less frequent but put more into them and people complain that it's not updated often enough. It's silly. If you like the way AOKP handles it then just switch to that rom.

I kind of figured it would be you that would come yell at me. No, I have no interest at all in trying out KANG. I've been a dedicated, positive, strong supporter of codename from it's first release. I was just saying that they're running a great program over there...not programmatic program, but a great marketing program. Everything is about sales, even if your selling people on downloading your free ROM. In that case, your sales are reflected in the number of people you get to download and stick with your ROM. The more you get, the more the dev team is excited, the better the ROM gets, and the longer they stick with it. You've got to find a balance that keeps the most amount of people happy. I just think those KANG guys have found that balance, not in their ROM, but in how they deliver it.

You're a smart guy that has been a help to me as well as many others, but you're kind of making my point about my original comment regarding the developers sensitivity when you say " If you like the way AOKP handles it then just switch to that rom". That's why I posted this here instead of on rootzwiki.

Lol... wasn't trying to yell at you at all dude. I just simply think the point is that you can't please everyone, plain and simple. I personally like that they've slowed down the releases to once a week or so (at least for now).. They get to put more time into fine tuning the upgrades, and you don't have 300 posts every other day of people asking if they need to wipe and reporting the same minor bugs over and over, like AOKP gets with their "nightly" builds.

That's not meant as a criticism on AOKP, they have their thing going and the devs enjoy it I'm guessing, or they wouldn't do it, but the devs at codename want to take a different approach than "nightlies".

Also my last sentence about moving to AOKP if you like it wasn't meant to portray sensitivity, or be rude at all.. it was more of a shoulder-shrug like, well, do what pleases you! lol, we're good :)

cough aokp*

Hello guys...so I just rooted and unlocked my nexus...it was actually a little harder then I thought :/ I tried to flash Codename Android 1.3.3 and when I selected system reboot, well the phone has been on the animation screen for a half hour and I am getting a little worried now...is this normal for the first time? any help would be great, thanks in advance

a half hour is too long. Did you flash the rom with ROM MANAGER or manually in Clockworkmod recovery mode?

If you used rom manager, that might be the problem.

Either way, you should probably pull the battery, then reboot to recovery mode, and then wipe data, cache and dalvik cache, then flash the rom and reboot.

(there are very good instructions on how to do this in Cyber warriors STICKIED POST up top of this sub forum).

Sorry i gotta go to sleep - east coast - class at 8 am.

Someone hopefully will be able to sort htis out for ya.

pls provide details on what steps you took to flash.
