[ROM][AOSP][4.0.3] Codename Android 1.5.5 [Full Open Source]

re: [ROM][AOSP][4.0.3] Codename Android 1.1.1 [Full Open Source]

What's the best way to backup for a reflash? I am successfully running codename 1.0.1 but I had to get everything set up manually again. I did a nandroid backup and a titanium backup prior to flashing it but restoring it caused all sorts of problems. I must have done something wrong. Any ideas?

I always make a nandroid backup first, in case the update has unexpected problems. Then I make a Titanium backup of all apps and system data. Then I follow the flash directions (wipe data, flash ROM, flash gapps). Then I let google download whatever it's going to (usually about 80% of my apps). Then go into Titanium and restore missing apps (NEVER restore system data after flashing a ROM). Then I go through all my relevant apps in Tiatanium and restore app data to the ones I want my junk and settings back on (like Maps for all my added Places searches, browser bookmarks, etc...). Set up home screens and that's it. Whole thing takes me about 30 to 45 minutes (excluding however long it takes google to download my apps), usually while watching something on TV.

I just flashed the Rom about 30 mins ago. I have to say the its running very well. There are so many ways to mod it with out having to flash them. With all off the LTE toggle you should be able to get great battery life along with the CPU options. Good job Dev. This phone is sick with the Android community.:D

This is all very good until the part about restoring to google apps, like maps... Gapps are on the level of system apps, I would not restore data to them at all. All of them should retain everything when you sign into your google accounts anyway.. for ex. all my maps places are backed up by google, they show up the same on every fresh flash, nothing has to be restored from a backup. Same with browser bookmarks, and anything google-related, you don't want to restore data to them, especially because there's a good chance a new ROM or update has different versions of those apps.

Obviously if you use a third party browser that's different if you want your bookmarks for that. Used to use dolphin and I'd restore that with data.. but now I really like the stock browser so I just use that and let everything come back through google.

Here's my very specific issue...I travel a lot with one of my kids for tennis. In Places (which I believe is part of Maps as Titanium sees it), I have created about 20 or more custom searches (mexican, cuban, gyro, gun store, book store, tennis courts, etc...). I'm pretty sure that these do not get backed up to Google. At least, I don't think they ever get restored during the normal download of apps after a data wipe. If you know of something that I need to be checking off to make this happen, I would love it.

I can tell you that I did restore Maps from Titanium after flashing this ROM and the gapps, and have noticed no issues. Is there anything that you can think of that I should check? When I do restore to Maps, I restore Data only, not the app + data if that matters.

Let me know what you think...this is one of those little things that's important to me.

I hear ya.. I would just think its not a good idea because like, 1. You don't want to restore data from one version of an app to a different version, and you have to be careful because the google apps in one rom or one version of a rom might be different than the next.. 2. just for google apps in general i don't think its a good idea. I can't say for sure if your Places searches like you describe get restored from google.. I know all my maps places themselves are attached to my main gmail account, as soon as I log in they show up in maps no problem. If you aren't noticing any problems then, sure, it may be ok, but I would check to see if there's a way around it that wouldn't involve restoring the data with TiBu.. kind of my usual advice of minimizing the amount of data you restore :)

None of us outside of the gapp dev's probably know this for sure, but it would seem like things such as Google Maps/Places/Navigation would have to be the same as the ones we originally had. The reason I assume this is because otherwise, wouldn't there be a conflict the next time an updated version was released from Google and you downloaded the update from the Market? I wonder if I might be better off restoring App + Data for something like Maps?

I just read an update to codename android is coming out tonight. Apparently said as much from his twitter account. Which, I can't find.

Anybody know about the update, or the twitter account for this dev?

Of course it is haha. I found the codenamedroid...knew that wasn't it.

But now, another question.

With the update he well be releasing, without knowing if he will release a full install zip, or an update zip also, will it overwrite my franco kernel flash? Meaning once I flash the rom update, I'm also going to have to reflash the kernel?

Which now that I'm thinking about it, will only take an extra....4 seconds...in recovery. So maybe it's moot anyway...

I'm sure it will be a complete install meaning it will overwrite your current kernel with the one included in the ROM. You will have to reflash the kernel of your choosing. He might also release an update zip in which case you won't have to reflash your kernel.

Can someone tell me how this rom compares to AOKP? Thinking of switching, but not sure.

re: [ROM][AOSP][4.0.3] Codename Android 1.1.1 [Full Open Source]

For anyone that's flashed 1.1.0 - can the battery percentage be turned off in the settings menu or is it always there?

re: [ROM][AOSP][4.0.3] Codename Android 1.1.1 [Full Open Source]

If I want to update to this latest version, do I have to flash the ROM all over again or can I just use the "Update ROM" feature in ROM Manager? Other than clearing the cache and delvik cache, should I also do another factory reset or anything else? I'm a noob at this so any help is greatly appreciated!

Care to post a link for the rest of us? :p

Edit: found it. I *hate* these upload sites. I'm going to mirror it on my dropbox once it finished downloading. You can check the MD5 just to be sure I didn't tamper with it.

edit 2: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73392/CodenameDroid-(MOD)-1.1.0-GN-CDMA.zip It'll be up there shortly. The MD5 is the same.
