I was expecting my battery life to be better, but so far it has been worse than what I was getting on nROM. Are there any tricks?

Format all 4 partitions using the recovery posted with the rom on xda. Flash it when you are fully charged and let the battery drain all the way until it dies. Then recharge and give it a couple more days and you should be good.

Also what does your time without signal come in at under: Menu>About phone>battery use>cell standby?

Thanks, I will do what you said. Time without signal says 14%. The ability to force roam would really come in handy, but I haven't figured out how to do it yet.

I really appreciate your work.

Can I use the following files?

aospCMod-OV-20110415-signed
OV-to-sprint-20110403-signed
gapps-gb-20110325-signed

I was led to believe that the dates on the first two files I listed had to be the same (in this case I would have to use aospCMod-OV-20110403-signed? Or am I good using the files that I listed?

So, if I understand what you are saying I will:
1) Make sure my battery is completely charged
2) Format Boot, Cache, Data and System
3) Flash the 3 files I listed above (I plan on doing them in the order they are in, unless I hear otherwise)
EDIT: I just read that you said "Flash the ROM, Gapps and then the OV to Sprint.zip." I will flash them in this order.
4) Let the battery completely drain until it powers off
5) Fully recharge the battery
6) Use it normally for the next couple of days

Did anyone loose the standard messaging with the new update (04/15) and the older (04/03) OV to Sprint zip? I've installed GoSMS that works for SMS and sending MMS, but does not work for rec'ving MMS.

@pfer10: Tried an experiment. Flashed 04/15 ROM and 03/25 gapps: Messaging was there. Then flashed 04/03 OV to Sprint: Messaging gone.

This is good to know. MMS is something that I use quite regularly.

Until we get something worked out only use the 4/03 release of OV. I don't think much changed besides MMS for Virgin Mobile so we had a good version in 4/3. Download 4/3 here:

aospCMod-OV-20110403-signed.zip

I will work with aosp when I get time and see what changed with the rom to see if I can get a new update patch for the 4/15 version to work on sprint.

OaT there is a difference with MMS and SMS. The OV rom use to work fine without the sprint patch with sms (both directions). MMS incoming would work but MMS send would just sit at sending forever without the patch. I fixed only the MMS send.

What exactly works when you flash the 4/15 OV rom without the sprint patch? I won't get time to look until sometime this week.

Went back to 04/03 versions of ROM and OV to Sprint as sms and mms are both working fine, in both directions.

Most importantly with the 04/15 ROM the messaging app is on the dock after flashing the ROM. But after flashing the 04/03 OV to Sprint zip the messaging app is completely unavailable; the icon changes on the dock to the generic android icon and you get a message that app is no longer valid. No messaging at all, sms or mms. After discover messaging was missing, installed go sms. SMS worked fine in both directions. MMS would rec'v, but not send - stayed in the sending mode.

Flash 04/15 ROM, flash 04/03 OV to sprint, flash gapps. boot up, reboot to recovery, reflash 04/15 Rom one last time.
but send mms is still funny I think.....

*#*#info#*#* > phone info>menu> select radio band>WILL FORCE CLOSE PRESS OK> REENTERphone info>set preferred network type as CDMA auto PRL> turn off radio then turn back on.> home

if u go back into this menu the settings should have remained. afterwards after u reboot your phone just turn airplane on them off. battery time without signal state should drop dadtcally after this

just wondering, does this ROM lack any features that Zefie's ROM has? since he is now abandoning development, I'm hesitant to use that ROM...

If I am learning correctly(my brain don't work so good no more :).....) aosp's goal is complete vanilla android......as updates come out, the rom is stripped down....so cm7 would/will have extras that you won't find on aosp......

so i'm just trying to get this straight.
the zips in the second link will convert any update from the first link (the OP) to sprint, correct?

You are correct about the direction aosp is taking his rom. This rom will eventually become as pure vanilla as possible. If you look at the file size of this rom compared to CM7 you will see quite a difference. I also believe that there are kernel differences, even though aosp started with zefie's kernel he has made some modifications to it (not sure what they are though). This was a big deal with his 2.2 rom for the hero. As the thread developed there were multiple requests for CM features from people not realizing that aosp was moving away from CM. Basically, if you like CM features then certainly run CM7 and not this rom because as updates are done you will see less of those features. Personally I wait patiently for a vanilla version. CM is a great rom, but I don't use even a fourth of the CM features and even those I could do without or find another app that does the same thing. It's all a matter of opinion and only the user can decide what is best for him/her.

Well said! Like you, I want the leanest, cleanest, fastest rom with all the vender crap and limitations removed so that I can use Android and our hardware to its fullest. I'll install the apps I want after flashing the basic rom, versus what others like/use and hence cook in. As a testament to this rom, I am only removing a few packages, substituting the zeam launcher, removing most of the ringtones, alarms, and notifications, and putting in a few additional performance tweaks that seem beneficial. I know that's not for everyone, but it works for me in terms of a very reliable system. :)

And I as well. I got rid of the Zeam launcher, Dev Tools, completely got rid of all live wallpaper components, and a few other things that I don't want/won't use. This is a very stable ROM and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It runs fast compared to other ROMs I've tried (I have not tried Scott Pilgrim to compare it to that) and apps that were before laggy now run smooth.

O.a.T., what is your system memory reading at right now? Mine is at 202/421 avail/total.

I'm at 242/421.

What fetures does this rom not have?

Is there not a "cyanogenmod settings"

Via TT

Good question. I haven't found any android features missing, other than custom ringtones not working correctly (not a big deal for me). Sure, things like LG Hidden Menu aren't there, but that's vendor specific stuff. And yes, it does have a Cyanogenmod settings.
