[ROM] CyanogenMod 7 for Hero CDMA :: V7.0.3 (6 May 2011)

I am running 2.2 on my hero just rooted. So so I do the cm7 or cm6?

You can use whatever you like :) CM6 is 2.2, CM7 is 2.3.

There are several 2.2 ROMs for the Heroc, Cyanogenmod based ROMs generally follow the "CM" distinction. You can try the CM6 ROM to compare it to your current 2.2 ROM and see which suits you best.

ok, I did it:)
I finally installed it right.
Now, how to block this 9016 number that sends me text message each time I receive voicemail? Is there such option to block the number?
I also tried to do same thing on my wife's Hero. So I launched Hero Rooter 1.3. I connected the phone, changed to Sync and... I rooted it. Then I wanted to do backup. So I downloaded Titanium Backup but every time I try to open it, it showes me that this cell is not rooted. I'm stuck, please help.
I can't do backup.
I downloaded Rom Manager and I did backup in it but... what is the difference between backup under Rom Manager and backup under Titanium Backup?
I think only TB gives me a chance to restore separate app...

Glad you got it to work and can enjoy the phone :)

For your wife's phone, we need to verify you actually have root access. Open Titanium Backup and click on the Overview tab. on the lower right you'll see "problems?". Click that and read through the information to problem solve. You should update the Super User App and BusyBox as provided in that help window. You should be good to go once you have updated those two.

If not, then you will need to make sure the root process worked. This can be verified by downloading "Terminal Emulator" from the market and opening it. Type su (followed by enter) and wait for the screen to request root access. You'll then see a return of # (instead of $). The # means you have root access and should be good. If the $ appeared after hitting enter then you need to try the root app again.

Let us know how things go.

I tried Method1. "Problems" tab made me install BusyBox. TB is working now with root access.
Rom changed:)

Good to see that you got it working :) Hope your wife enjoys the phone.

If anyone is interested, I came across this mod that allows you to change the "Sprint" name when charging and when you pull down the notification bar:

[MOD]Change "Sprint" on AOSP (No HexEdit/CDMA)(Scrolling Lockscreen Text) - xda-developers

It's pretty easy, just read through the how-to a few times to familiarize yourself with it. Pretty cool mod :)

** It only workes with aosp or CM based ROMs **

So after I got new rom and everything is going better, then are there more tricks? What else can I do with my phone?
Where is that sdk directory from that mod? I can't find it on my phone.

The sdk directory is a download package you get from google. Since you used apps to root the phone you probably don't have it installed. That's just a visual mod that really isn't necessary, just threw it out there.

Here is the xda-developers CDMA Hero forum: HTC Hero CDMA - xda-developers

It's very active and the development section is where you'll find other tweaks and mods for the phone. I would suggest taking a look around and read up a lot on the available mods. There's mods to increase your phones memory, called Firerats Mod, Battery Tweaks to prolong battery life based on the phones settings and themed mods. It's a Developer forum so be sure to read up before asking questions or posting new threads. Just a friendly FYI :)

I've updated the first post with a new release, RC3. To install, download the ROM and flash over the previous RC2 release, a wipe should not be required. If you are using another ROM, make sure to wipe/factory reset, format boot/system/cache/data and flash.

As with any ROM that would affect the system, make a backup (Nandroid) just in case things go wrong and you need to restore a working backup.

ANother question. Why can't I use any Live wallpapers under RC2 ?
Is Hero that slow or it's "thing" with this rom?
What is Nighlies? IS it just another rom?

The Hero does not have the minimum requirements to allow Live Wallpapers. Specifically, the hardware can't keep up. Some Live Wallpapers may work but most likely not function 100% and will cause some hiccups on the phone. The phone can be hacked to get live wallpapers working, but it will be at the expense of something else.

Nightlies are experimental ROM updates to CM7. The ROM is considered experimental because the ROM is complied to play with different system settings and integrate new features. This gives the developers a way to see what works and what doesn't and slowly give the public new features before a final stable version is released as "RCX", where X is the release candidate number. Sometimes a Nightly is good for daily use; other times it's not and very unstable.

A good rule of thumb is to always make a backup of your current ROM if you decide to try something else. It makes restoring a lot better if you don't like a ROM.

My wife wanted a new phone. She said her Hero was to slow and she couldn't take it anymore. Enter CM7. Now this is a phone she can use.

Thank you

Ha, yeah. The phone does not have the power to properly run Sense, in my humble opinion. Glad she now has a functioning phone with CM7 :)

A negative for this rom:
internet is slowlier and it seems it's slowlier each time we use it..
oh and market opens very slow

Quick question. When updating between versions of CM (i.e. CM 6 to CM7) a wipe of the current ROM is recommended. If I go and move all of my current apps to SD, the wipe shouldn't affect them should it? If I move all my apps to SD then I shouldn't have to go and re-download them all should I?

Try another browser. Opera Mini and Dolphin Mini are good alternatives. I've had the same problems with the market opening a bit slow. Not sure what the problem is but it's a mute problem for me so I don't worry about it much.

Is anyone running CM7-RC4?

Yes, I installed it last night. Everything seems fine and is running good so far. :) I'm also using Sobe et.al's. new kernal. Everything is fine so far.

Yes, the wipe might affect them. Reason being is that a portion of the apps remain on the phone for security purposes. I suggest backing up your current ROM just in case, then wipe Dalvik Cache (no factory reset, format/boot/system/cache, etc.) and flash the newest RC4. You should be good to go.

If problems exists, then a wipe may be needed. You should then backup with titanium or mybackup and re-install the apps afterwards.

First post updated with link to new RC4 release. If you currently have RC3 installed, there should be no need to wipe/reset everything. Just Wipe Dalvik Cache and flash. Always remember to backup your current ROM just in case!

I updated from RC2 to RC3 and I really didn't see any changes. I checked changelog and have no idea what's in there:P
I didn't wipe anything, I just made a backup and after all I did that Voicemail thiung again.
Now I'm changing to RC4.
So after reading post above mine I assume thatagain I don't need to wipe anything but what is that Dalvik cache? I will google it but ofcourse I'd like more human answer for it if you don't mind:)
