[ROM] CyanogenMod 7 for Hero CDMA :: V7.0.3 (6 May 2011)

First post has been updated with recent release, 7.0.2. You'll notice a jump past 7.0.1. 7.0.1 was released late last night and had bugs, so an update was released putting the current at 7.0.2.

If upgrading from a current CM7 ROM you can install the new version right over the old. Coming from anything else will require a full wipe/factory reset. Installing the gapps file is not necessary if simply upgrading the current CM7 ROM.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I have been rooted for quite sometime but never actually downloaded a ROM, now with this CM7 it really interest me, if I get over the fear I will do it this week maybe tonight lol. If everything goes smooth how long is the process? Thanks

I would say put aside a half-hour just to get the ROM installed, booted, and logged in to Google. It could be quicker, but since it's your first time you want to set aside some time to work though it. Takes me maybe 10-15 minutes with a smooth install.

Remember to backup all sensitive data since you'll have to wipe/factory reset the phone before flashing the ROM. There are apps on the market that backup and restore sms/mms messages if you have important texts. Sync contacts and Email with Google to save that information and You'll be good to start flashing :) There are other apps like MyBackup Pro and Titanium Backup that will do all of this for you, including backup/restore installed apps so you don't have to re-download.

Let me know if you have any questions :)

Ok I have sync my contacts from the phone itself from settings and sync. I am now looking in the market for an app to back up everything else.

Here are two apps that will backup the information you need:

MyBackup - Android app on AppBrain

http://www.appbrain.com/app/titanium-backup-★-root/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup

These are the free versions. I think the paid versions allow you to save market links for each app backup. This allows you to restore the app and have it show up in the my downloads section of the market so you can stay notified of updates.

For sms, I use - AppBrain Android market | SMS Backup & Restore

Again, the first two apps I posted will backup everything on the phone. However, I prefer the separate sms backup (I'm weird like that lol).

Good luck.

Thanks srkmagnus for the links.., last night I went ahead and download the ROM and the clockwork app but for some reason I was not able to connect phone to pc at all so I just put them on my desktop. My concern are all my pics will I loose them all? THanks again

No, pictures are saved on the SD Card and that will remain untouched. You can save the contents of the sd card to the PC as a backup just in case.

Your phone probably didn't connect to the PC because HTC Sync may not be installed. Visit the Sprint or HTC website and look for the HTC Sync drivers for the PC. That will hopefully clear things up.

Ah ok I will do that just in case the SD card corrupts., the thing is I was always able to connect to pc at home and/or at work and now I am not able to at either location. I know that when I rooted months back I was able to connect and view my SD card on pc but it was weird that I was still getting a prompt of an OTA update that I always ignored Im thinking that maybe by accident I clicked update??

PC at work and at home say they recognize the phone connected but on the phone itself the only outgoing notification I have is USA debugging connected and nothing else.

Hmm, that's weird. When plugged in can you see the device as a USB connectoin on the PC? If that won't work, then try downloading the ROM directly to the phone via WiFi and install from there. You still want to solve the phone to pc issue since you will want to backup the sd card contents at some point.

When Im plugged in I went to recovery screen and toggle USB mode from there and I was able to see the drive plugged in but was unable to open it only view properties on pc. Could I pop in the SD card into laptop and create a back up like that and transfer the ROM to it?

Yes, you can do that.

Ok I will do that tonight, thanks alot I really appreciate it Im sure questions and concerns will come during the process

No Problem. I'm usually browsing the site around 8-9 pm pst, so if you run into problems before hand I won't respond right away :)

I was not able to find my mini SD card adapter for the laptop  so I will have to pick one up today.

lol If you are only concerned about the pictures and don't have too many to save, try dropbox. It's perfect for things like this. Upload from phone and download from computer :)

I am, and I want to back up my entire card, but I still need the adapter so I can put the ROM on it right? lol

yeah, just drop the zip file of the ROM into the sd card. Did you get titanium backup or my backup?

Ok, bought the adapter and also a 4g card :) I have backed up the entire card and pasted all on the 4g card, yes I dowloaded both but do they do different things?

I finally did it!! cant believe I waited this long to try a ROM, I wanna thank srkmagnus for guiding me through all of it, I have lots to learn about this ROM, good news is I have my contact and my pics :) No I have to figure out how to restore my apps lol
