[ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.1.0 -Stable

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-0

So, as everybody possibly knows by now: ANDROID version 4.0.4 is out..........+ the Epic CM Team is currently testing how CM9 will flow now that Android 4.0.4 has been merged!

The CM Blog is currently posting a Download Link to an experimental 'test' build of CM9 that is running 4.0.4.............if interested in this build, you can find it here:

Cyanogenmod Epic 4G: Testing Feedback Needed: Android 4.0.4

As it is a 'test' version, those of you that are pretty satisfied with your current STABLE CM9 ROM may want to sit this one OUT, as the official 4.0.4 will likely debut on the next Beta2 release............conversely, those of you only now beginning to get your toes wet w/ CM9 may NOT want to venture into this one, as it in NOT an official release + intended ONLY for advanced users that would be willing to run it as a test support vehicle for the Epic CM Team.............as a way to help out by exploring the inherent differences between 4.0.4 + 4.0.3 (currently on Beta1)............. + possibly find + isolate particular BUGS that may come to the fore as part of this experiment!

Still, this strikes me as an excellent opportunity to advance to the next level + help the Epic CM Team at the same time, yeah?.........if anyone here is currently running this 'test' ROM, + feel like sharing some early views, please feel free to do so....................we'll be waiting to hear from you!!! :)

What a great surprise for a Monday:

The EL30 to FC09 Flashable Modem Delta Update is Out!

................ what this means is simply this: no need to wait for the promised FC09 Over the Air Update (the one that has apparently begun it's OTA deployment for 100% completion over the course of the next six weeks.)........this is especially good news for those of us on CM9 as we would not be in a position to run the OTA update from our rooted custom ROM set-ups anyway.

...........am posting the link to a very comprehensive thread that has been started by zanderman112 (XDA) with all of the proper links to files that you will need..............so that navigating you way thru the several steps to FC09 should be a breeze:

xda-developers - View Single Post - EL30 to FC09 Flashable Modem Delta update.

If you should end up using the Delta, please express some gratitude to zanderman112 for having provided us with the proper goods!

Note: this too is perhaps best left to advanced users......if your current modem is already delivering decent connectivity, FC09 may not be able to improve your situation.....just sayin' :)

Would I be able to go from FB15 to FC09 or do I have to flash back to EL30 in order to get this right??

Edit: NM, I got it.

I was on the leaked FB07, lol! Here is to hoping that FB09 is just as good or better for me than FB07!

The delta calls for EL30, so you'll have to ODIN back to EL30.........2nd step is to flash wtogami's temp CWM/BML recovery......from there you flash the El30 to FC09 Modem Delta, reboot to system takes you right back to your ROM except you'll be running the new updated modem............oh, if you felt you were getting better performance from FB07, you ODIN right back! Lol ;)

Yeah, it was quite the work (and reading) to achieve this myself, lol! I had wtogami's temp CWM/BML recovery already in my phone since I knew it come in handy someday. Thank you for your help! You are always there to help and I am thankful for that!!

I was a bit confused as to whether I needed to put the pit file in odin since I believe I didn't need a pit file when I installed FB07 (modem ONLY). I just went with the instructions and it all went smooth without a hitch. I had one dropped call at the gym but otherwise, so far so good! If I end up having problems, I'll just odin back to Fb07 like you said....its like you read my mind, lol!!

Can anyone tell me how to get Sprint TV back onto my cm9?

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-0

I downloaded an apk from the newest Sprint TV from an xda post, but it's not recognizing me and saying that i don't have a subscription etc. is there anyway we can make it work as usual with cm9? Now that it works with wifi it might be interesting.

@ GrooveRight: Congrats!...........always takes a bit of concentration doing one of these updates, glad things worked out for you!

FYI, I was able to lock in 10 satellites w/ FC09 --first thing I checked as the night before had been troubleshooting my gps-- which is a vast improvement from FB15................(speed on FC09? is another story, still not up to par but working on it)............. so, do take a minute to check in w/ a few of your most used features to see how they compare on the new modem.

Given your description of getting the new modem installed, am taking this opportunity to repost a sort of 'how-to' from recent bouts w/ flashing FB15..........Note: the same approach applies to flashing FC09 (*disregard the FB15 link*)..................am hoping that this'll be of help to those who could use a little guidance. ;)

+ there's also THIS, a quick 'how-to' flash a modem using ODIN:

Here's a screen shot of my results w/ the new FC09 modem, have been locking 10 satellites steadily for past few nights.............on a different note, was having some issues w/ data throughput that I was able to remedy by flashing another kernel (note to self: merged 4.0.4 android AND a new FC09 firmware modem........this is 'test' mode 100% so the quirks go w/ the territory :) ........looking forward to a solid beta2 for smooth sailing: hope the 4.0.4 testing's going well!)

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-0

Oh wow! I want 4.0 ! But i just now, finally got 2.6.35.7 CleanGB with EL30, put on mine.. and after reading all those instructions for 4.0 and its still being beta 1(or 2) i think i should hold off on it? I just now found an overclock app, Hahah. Have to credit Paul for everything ive learned..

Is it worth taking the plunge and chancing it? (and yea i could go a day without my phone if i did brick and to re-do it all) Or is 2.6GB with EL30 just about as good as it gets right now?

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-0

absofreakinlutely!!!!

Do a backup in Clockwork before you wipe and install CM9. If things go sour, you can just wipe and restore the backup, and you're right back where you left off ;)

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-0

......AND IT'S HERE:

CM9 Beta-2.......NOW w/ a fully merged ANDROID 4.0.4!!!!

........am very excited for this second beta release as personal forays into 'testing' 4.0.4 combined w/ official modem EC09 exhibited great promise for my og EPIC4g, particularly from the perspective of improving latency + data connectivity............anyone interested in reducing lag + improving their data connection needs to seriously consider this beta release............but also consider for a moment a few of the several enhancements included w/ Beta-2:

Added emulation for RotationVectorSensor2.
Android 4.0.4 brings a few fixes and improvements.
Users report a smoother overall experience and better battery life than 4.0.3.

...........right there, three awesome improvements to an otherwise virtually lag-free + bug-free Cyanogen + there are several other important enhancements listed on the Changelog (see full details on Post #2 of this thread.)

NOTE: Be sure to think carefully whether you will be doing a clean install (full data wipe/factory reset recommended) or else 'Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache' only OR 'dirty install' prior to flashing CM9Beta-2...............have heard reports from members who have updated by wiping the two caches only (no data wipe) + it appears to have been ok for them during the 'test' run..........however, personally, am advocating a full Nandroid Backup, then a Full Wipe prior to flashing Beta-2........as I am intending on running this ROM for the foreseeable future, might as well get it right from the git w/ a clean install to Android 4.0.4: it just makes good common sense after all of the testing + hard work merging Android 4.0.4 over to CM9! :)

Have fun w/ this one guys...............+ be sure to post any concerns or comments pertaining to Beta-2 as we veer closer to Official Release Candidate status!!!

oh and sonarchist, I don't think I have wiped since CM9 Alpha 3, lol! Phone is running superbly for me! In any case that I may experience some weirdness, could I just re-flash but wipe everything before hand?!?!

.......the Epic CM Team was advising a complete wipe when we updated Android 4.0.3 to Android 4.0.4 during the 'Test 4.0.4' phase as a matter of course --aka good judgement-- as unknown things are often known to come up w/ these types of OS updates...............yet a number of users who flashed dirty installs --+ didn't wipe data-- appear to be running ok at the moment........from my experience IF your CM9Beta2 begins to show erratic behaviour, YES you can do the clean install at that point..........but do bear in mind: always good practice to keep a good recent Nandroid backup current on your sd card, if only to secure your data.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-0

Beta 2 seems to be a lot speedier than beta 1. I've always noticed a bit of lag when pressing the buttons onscreen (especially in the settings) where the 'fading' effect on the button would take a couple of seconds to go through the animation. Now that's gone! Not to mention the fact that it's on 4.0.4! This is a great ROM and just shows that the Epic 4G still has some kick in it.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-0
