I do not take credit for any of this, i am simply relaying the message, special thanks goes to punkkaos, jt, birdman, and all the fine dev's we have on this phone.

I suggest everyone heads over to xda-dev forum and checks out what our good friend Punkkaos has been up to.

[ROM] [ALPHA] [FROYO] Kaosinate V0 - xda-developers

Thanks to a very generous donation from ivorycruncher, who gave him the hardware to build his rom from, we now have an alpha Froyo rom on our hands.

For the impatient, and update needy types out there, I would also check out, and keep refreshing Kaos (punkkaos) on Twitter

please remember, this is still alpha, and not much is working on it, so i wouldn't flash it just yet, unless you are the adventurous type.

Cheers.

What I find halarious is all those people who worry about OTA updates and saving themselves for Froyo.
Should I root? Should I, huh? Convince me!

In the meantime the whole Fascinate community has had the updates, made custom ROMs and Kernals out of them- weeks before any OTA ever came along.

Wonder how many stay pure when this Alpha is working!

I think abowlofsoda is completely right, root people, no point in not.

Samsung has been 3 steps behind the dev community when it comes to every release. we had dj05, we had dl09 before they released, we've got a flashable froyo rom before samsung even gives the fascinate the ability to connect to KIES.

I've given up on Samsung, and am in the merciful hands of the devs. I think its time you do the same.

3rd update / version 2.0 is out.

punk.kaos has been hard at work, now has got the following "working":
calls
audio
data
SMS
Sensors

everything else has yet to be worked on, but at the speed things are progressing, i can see a daily build working within a week or two.

i realize there are 3 other threads on this, but people, check before you create.

I beg to differ. I think its the carriers who are to blame for these delays. The European and Canadian version always get their updates before we do. But the US carriers are so adamant about saturating their devices with bloatwares that few consumers would ever use.

I'm running Kaoscinate V2 right now on my phone and most say, despite the bugs, it runs well. Right now calls, audio, softkey lights, sms, data and sensors are working. The radio seems to be weaker compared to what's in Eclair but I'm hoping that's just a bug. Also, I seem to be roaming a whole lot.

Keep in mind the US Fascinate is the only CDMA version. Samsung may be dragging their feet releasing Froyo for 1 version of their phone that's only on 1 carrier in 1 country.

I think if this rom requires voodoo, a lot if people will avoid this rom. I've never used asop roms on my phone and will wait for the leaked froyo update.

Until voodoo is foolproof for the average user, I tend to agree with you

after the DL09 update, i've put my faith in the devs. At least there's an update schedule and a tangible download available. We're not being kept in the dark with "sometime soon" and "we cannot speculate on future updates" bs that Samsung gives. I have no idea why they're not more transparent with their customers. It boggles the mind...Devs FTW!

I think the devs will push stuff out as they get it done. I am more interested in getting leaked releases modified and running than using ASOP. The one nice thing about the Fascinate is that it is very good out of the box. My wife's phone is not rooted and she loves how it runs.
