[rom][froyo] Punkkaos's Froyo Rom

yes, he has got WIFI working now.

pretty sure his main goal for v4 is bluetooth, seeing as he's already done a little bit of work on it. Once that is up, i'll probably attempt a flash, and report back.

Can't wait for this to be done. Then Verizon and Samsung can take their official froyo update when they release it and put it you know where.

I have been watching this develop as well. Looks good. I may wait till it is out of alpha before I flash to my phone..

Here to ya punk.kaos!

Same here for sure. I use my phone for car gps, work phone, personal email, web, mp3 player, news reading, book reading, and as primary phone line as well. I can't afford to try something until the bugs are worked out. Otherwise my digital life and a large part of my concrete life could go down the toilet.
:(

everything you mentioned is working. no bluetooth though.

Anybody flashed it yet? As I understand things, it is not available yet?

It is available for download and flash - you need the the right kernel - here

the ROM; Kaosinate ROM V4 - here

You will need a new GAPPS (CM6/Froyo version)

I have read that most of testing is being done the DJ05 radio...

Follow Simple Instructions:
1. have a voodoo5 kernel installed and enabled
2. download rom and kernel from op
3. boot to cwm recovery (should be red version)
4. wipe all data
5. flash rom(froyo)
6. flash kernel(kaos's voodoo5)
7. reboot

Simple... just a trip I don't want to take .. yet.

As I said earlier, me neither, yet. But I hope to soon, when the yellow brick road is a little less bumpy. :D

JT also came out with a froyo build, in its v2 stage now. This is the one i have on my phone, reason being I don't want to mess too much with voodoo. But jt's works pretty well, still some bugs here and there (pandora, youtube, outgoing calls (1/2 the time), browser crashes. But it's great progress, and it creates 2 froyo mods for us now.

I'll jump ship to voodoo if punk-kaos gets bluetooth working first, i wanna try and get a Bluetooth Keyboards working on this phone!

A quick update, people check out punkkaos' twitter. he has a pic of an official froyo kernel from samsung, and he is severely hinting at it being for the cmda fascinate.

you know what this means!

if i wanna do this i need to do voodoo ?

If you want to install the Kaosinate ROM then you DO need to install the latest version of voodoo. I think Gunner is referring to the recent post of a leaked Official version of 2.2 which will not require voodoo. But at this time it is not released to the public.

yeah,i thought that was what he was asking about. if you are gonna flash the beta then you must voodoo. be careful with the alpha though, its, well, alpha. some people are haveing trouble going back to thier 2.1 roms. i had to flash back to stock first myself.

Yea, if someone wants to try out one of the alpha 2.2 roms, they're better off going with JT's AOSP, since it doesn't require a Voodoo kernel. It (JT's AOSP 2.2) and Kaos's 2.2 are pretty much in the same state as far as what's working and what's not.

ive run them both, and the phone is WAY faster. thats saying alot concidering the phone is already really fast. but not much is working. its neat to have 2.2, but less works on it than what ive got now. i wouldnt mind testing but they dont want much in the way of feed back, so theres point in running a broke phone.

I think abowlofsoda is completely right, root people, no point in not.

Samsung has been 3 steps behind the dev community when it comes to every release. we had dj05, we had dl09 before they released, we've got a flashable froyo rom before samsung even gives the fascinate the ability to connect to KIES.

I've given up on Samsung, and am in the merciful hands of the devs. I think its time you do the same.

Give me a point to root? Run faster, My phone runs fine enough. Phones are for calling, and smartphones are for browser, what does rooting do for my browser or my calling. Nothing. 10% of the smartphone population are nerds who root and want to have a phone that runs fast, oh really, like some clean rom and 1.2 ghz compared to 1.0 ghz when clockworked makes such a huge difference, please.

Makav, lets keep it simple,

Phones are for calling, and smartphones are for browser, what does rooting do for my browser or my calling.

on a first note, i don't have an overclocked mod. ACTUALLY, i have it undervolted, and still running faster than stock. So thats +1 for root since undervolt = better battery life. You said the point of a phone is to make calls, its nice when you have battery to make those calls no? yes.

As for browser, have you heard of flash 10.1? or apps like chrome to phone, only available through root + froyo roms. I say my browser experience is better than stock.

Sounds like you should be using an iPhone considering your apparent hostility towards the ability of an end user to use his/her phone for what they please.

I don't have my phone overclocked, but that's not the end-all and be-all of rooting. With rooting, I'm able to use apps to gain full access to my home network - which contains my music, movies and any other work related files I sometimes need to send/upload/email to people. And this is on top of being able to remove all the garbage Verizon installs that absolutely kills battery life.

These things are little computers that can do considerably more than just take phone calls and browse the web. Don't criticize the people who extend the capabilities of their device simply because you don't.
