Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

Just so everybody is clear, in response to #1, the integrated apps2sd does not cause a performance decrease. I do use a higher class sdcard and i understand your point as that is the major controversy surrounding apps2sd. There may be tests that say one way or another. There is no noticeable real-world speed issue though. Everything runs just as fast.
There are workarounds for all your other points.

In response to your observations....

1. The shipped SD card is slow. If you need I will show you benchmarks to prove this. Also, you cannot assume everyone is going to run out and by a new SD card to boost speed. I am taking that out of the equations when I factor this in. I am building for people that have bone stock set up.

2. Workarounds. I think that says it all. I don't build a ROM so people have to use workarounds, lol

Just sayin... lol

I wasn't speaking about a Rom in particular. Only apps2sd. If you want to discuss roms, that is another discussion. However, you can see I offer it as an option in Opti-Rom because, yes, some people don't want it and would rather not use it at all. I have also offered the users the option to disable dalvik to cache if they so please as well as a few other tweaks. Again, that is just to respond to your comment about roms. I never said you should build a Rom for people to have to use workarounds either. I understand your concerns. I just wanted to address the statement as I have seen it since I originally participated in getting data2ext (apps2sd and cache2sd included) working on this phone and have been playing with it ever since. So I have a good amount of experience with it. Take it or leave it. Hope it helps! :)

I'll leave it :-X

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

Forgive me if this is an old topic, but I didn't see it discussed in these threads...

Was Sprint's IQ Agent removed when you cooked gRom? I'm assuming so (because I don't see it as a running service), but wanted to double-check.

Also, if the kernel defaults to 748mhz is that on-demand, or is it always running at 748mhz (instead of say 245mhz when not in use)? Basically, I'm trying to figure out if I should install the no-frills CPU controller app you used in sROM or if it's redundant to do so.

Otherwise, I think this ROM is damn near perfect. I would suggest that you use the reTouched theme as the default them for future versions (as it's easier to determine true battery life as well as have a more translucent notification screen), but other than that....VERY well done!!! I'll be sure to donate this week...thanks again for a great ROM!

IQ Agent is removed (for the most part). If you dont see it running that's a good thing!

The governor is ondemand by default.

I build all my ROMS to the stock GB look and include ROM Updater. You can download and apply quite a bit of mods in ROM Updater. I think that is a better solutions. One mans theme is another mans eye-sore, lol.

No frills should already installed as part of the rom, and ondemand (i think) is preset

Correct on both accounts.

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

I love this rom, 1 question though, which would make it perfect for me. Is there a way I can extract the CM7 BT stack (which includes L2Cap protocol), and install it into this rom? The whole reason I ask is because my Watch connects to my phone with BT to show text messages and incoming calls, but it uses the L2Cap protocol, which isn't included in the offical GB.

Thanks.

P.S. If there is somewhere I can read to learn how to do it, could you pass it on and I will try it myself.

No apps2sd for me. Have my Acer tab for apps now :-)

Optimus has lots of apps and I still have 50mb free.

I agree. This ROM comes out the box with 150 megs free on fresh flash. I never used more than 50 megs... Even on my Evo 3D... Never more than 50 megs. But thats me...

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

Just an FYI to all: Super user was updated yesterday or today. The update is causing mass force close issues on all E3D ROMS across all developers. I am not sure how its been on Optimus. has anyone updated? If you did can you please post your results?

No problems here. It updated automatically for me yesterday afternoon and since then I've been able to use root explorer, quick boot, and change CPU settings. Each time I see the notification saying that SuperUser has granted access to whatever program I was using.

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

All is working great, reliable, fast, and great battery life. My one question left about this is is there a way to get the power widget in the notification bar? And if not, could it please be added? My girlfriends stock rom comes with it and I'm jealous lol

Well, thats good. Maybe its just a 3D issue.

Update running fine here too.

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

scrosler- did you ever have any luck with the CM7 camera apk? I tried some camera app's off the market, and I still get the flicker which is odd... because I've never had that issue before. I think I read in some previous posts it had something to do with the kernel? I don't recall...

Yea my SU updated with no problem either.

Everyone loves the power widget in the notification drop down, that is the one thing I miss the most too!

I think between that power widget in the notification drop down, the reboot and recovery options when the power button is pressed and the ability to group apps in the drawer would make this rom perfection for me.

In opti-rom there is a quick boot app for reboot, recovery boot. Don't know about grom though. I would just double check to see if there is one there.
