ARCHIVED: [ROM] Reborn ROM v2.2.4 - 7/24/11

Suggestion:

I would prefer the symbols on the notification toggles to NOT dim when off. I would prefer it to just have the indicator bar go dim/bright. It is hard to see the icon when they are off.

1 thread - WHY?

Why can't there be a separate forum section for Reborn Rom?
Why is EVERYTHING contained in one thread?
It will really suck again when it has 200+ postings like the ThundeRom thread was.
Particularly when searching. You have to go thru all the pages to find what your looking for!:-\

You can "search this thread" with the button at the top right of the thread.

Sent from my phone...excuse the spelling mistakrs.

The new version has trouble connecting to my university's wifi... In covered areas with the wifi on it wont connect. Previous version was ok.
Switched to aosp's and got steady wifi...

Also, is there an estimate if battery life is better than aosp's or zefie's?

Shorty did you get my pm?

Got it.

Folks, jstntp was kind enough to make a flashable zip of the button backgrounds you can see above. Here it is:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22075292/Andriod/Nameless_rom/S-Jacobs_Power-Mod.zip

You should be able to flash this in recovery without wiping anything. The normal disclaimers apply, (we're not responsible if your phone spontaneously self combusts).

To get the green indicators I have above, or any color you want, open "PowerControl Settings" in your app drawer, go to Indicator Color, select the color you want on the color wheel, and tap the center dot to save your choice.

Don't forget to go back and thank some of jstntp's posts for his efforts!

Just flashed and so far I really like it. I do have a few suggestions though.

- Make the OC optional. I take battery life over performance and having an easy way to remove the OC would be nice. A simple flash file would be great.

- Make all ROM specific apps uninstallable. I don't use terminal or Google Talk. I would like be able to remove them. Pretty much make everything that can be uninstalled, able to be.

Other than that I am good. The theme is awesome. The phone is snappy and I have no issues at all. Thanks guys!

you can uninstall all of that stuff with titanium backup and i'm pretty sure you can change the overclock to whatever you want with setcpu

If you install something like SetCPU, you can change overclocking, (drop it back to 600 for "stock").

I *think*, but am not sure, that the bundled apps, (Talk and Terminal Emulator) are part of the ROM, and don't take up storage space. Regardless, you can uninstall them if you use Titanium Backup. Select the app you don't want and click "uninstall".

I know you're looking for direct solutions, and these require the installation of more apps to solve your problems, but they do work :).

Edit: beaten to the punch :p

I think I just finished doing this, but can't check until I get home tonight. With any luck, in about 8 hrs I'll have a flashable zip up here for you, (I've resigned myself to learning how to do this....for one, I have a bunch of things I flash with each ROM, and I'm getting tired of flashing 5 zips in succession!).

Cool.

Titanium removed GTalk ok, but it seems to have missed part of the terminal emu. I now have an icon for jackpal.androidterm that I cannot remove.

Unknown, however, there is a picasticks kernel thread, you might have better luck searching that for vpn.

- Sent from my Optimus S

Thanks I did manage to find some info on picasticks, just not in this forum. It does have tun.ko module for those who care lol.

static continued

Just my luck. I get stuck talking to the network administrator. :p I studied CCNA for two years. I understand vpn.

Hahaa, fair enough.

Thanks for testing... By any chance did you flash noIQagent.zip as well? Just trying to think why my settings are having problems since I've flashed this ROM... I'm going to try again btw. Just because it's bugging the hell out of me now. Again, thanks for "giving it a go"

I did flash the noIQagent yes, I should also point out that I did this as an update from nameless (did not wipe data). I don't believe that has anything to do with it really but worth a mention.

EDIT 2: Trying again and it seems that nothing I do will get it past "Obtaining IP address". I am wondering why it is "obtaining ip address" in the first place since I've set it to static ip....

Me aswell, as you said before the phone static settings should definitely override anything else and keep it from searching. Perhaps it's time to move this to a separate thread before we crowd this one too much.

I'm going to change my settings in my phone back to dhcp than reset them to static again just for a quick test, when I uninstalled zakus last night all I did was reboot.

EDIT: "Obtaining IP address". It apparently says that before connecting even if the static settings are working properly I watched it sit there obtaining an ip for about half a second before it connected with my static assignment. Blame LG for stupid wording on that one.

EDIT 2: I edited out my IP assignment removing it entirely > reboot the phone > watch it fail to connect to my network for lack of IP assignment > reconfigured assignment, instantly jumped back onto the network.

I was hoping that would yield more results lol, also thought it would take me longer :D

Just tested static ip and it works fine. phone switched to the static ip and previous dhcp assigned address went offline. static ip is pinging and i'm able to accesss the wifi network for data. I'm on Reborn ROM with NoIQpatch.zip. My wifi access point is apple airport express with WPA2 security

Edit - switched back to DHCP and back to static all good, no issues

Edit2 - My VPN connectivity is broken. Had same issue in ThunderROM, Nameless and now Reborn. I'm unable to connect to my PPTP vpn server

OK, got it.

Here's the flashable zip:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13236706/S-Jacobs_Power-Mod bright buttons signed.zip

This gives persistently bright buttons, grey gradient background. I also modified the "vibrate" icon with a bit of white edge tracing so it showed up better against the darker background. Looks like this:

In the spirit of openness, here's mine. I tried to get close to Reborn's theme colors:

<(very nice) image cut>

Very nice work Shorty! What a finishing touch. The PowerControl toolbar doesn't look aftermarket now and the contrast is better for us old folks (no offense to our incredible ROM coders!). Thanks for sharing. The white on vibrate helps.

For anyone: Is there a way to change the transparency level of the notification pull-down? I'd like to make it a bit more opaque. Again, aging confused eyes at work here ...
