All you would need to do before you partition you're sd card is save a copy on your PC. When you partition it erases everything on card. It should not effect your rom. So you would not need to reflash it. I am using a class 4 (higher class, faster card) card, the ones that come with phone are junk.Hi blackops,
Sorry to jump into the middle of your conversation here, but I skipped over the data2ext part when flashing my dad's Optimus, and now that I'm working on my Evo and learning about the a2sd scripts, it looks like this is something I should have done (I believe the two are equivalent on their respective platforms, correct?) I can handle the partitioning part, but have a couple questions, if you don't mind. Is there any downside to doing this on the Optimus--does it put a drag on performance? Also, is there a preferred SD class rating when doing this on the Optimus? (thinking of the Nook Color, where the class2 Sandisks work best due to their faster random r/w speeds.)
And if I repartition the uSD card at this point, will that necessitate a re-flash of the ROM? If I'm not mistaken, I won't be able to restore a nandroid created prior to partitioning, due to the changes in the filesystem--correct?
Thanks!
Yes if you flash another rom you will need to reflash the data2ext zip and then in adb shell "data2ext --enable" again.I got the ext4 partition to work. I had to change the order of installation. I needed to flash the zip first. When I tried entering the commands, it would not recognize the tune2fs command. Once I flashed the zip, I was able to enter the commands and enable the partition.
I would like to thanks blackops and glitchsta for finding this and helping me get this running.
I do have one question. If I load another rom, will any of these changes be removed? Do I need to do anything to enable this again?
Yes you will need to reflash the data2ext zip and then enable. You DO NOT have to enter the commands again. Just flash zip and enable.I got the ext4 partition to work. Now all of this relates to data2ext since that is what I am using. I am not sure about a2sd.
I am also using Xionia recovery, and once the sd card was partition I just moved everything from PC back to card. And yes nandroids still work.
Once you do this make a new nandroid. If you flash another rom data2ext will need to be reflashed and enabled again.
Thanks blackops.
I'd read elsewhere that those prior nandroids would not work if restored to the partitioned system, due to the file system having changed. The technical stuff goes over my head, but what seems to make sense to me is that the apps have moved to a different place, so I logically I can see why it wouldn't work.
I've little experience with Linux, aside from using Ubuntu and Mint a few times really, though I installed puppy on an ancient system for a friend a long time ago. Never did much with it though. They're in the same place, it's just the place has moved! That is, as far as your phone and Android are concerned they are in the same directory structure (/system/data) but that part of the directory tree has moved to a physical location with more storage (another partition of your SD card.) Ain't Linux grand?
Ya it's called data2ext...
Sent from my LG-LS670 running CM7 and data/dalvik to ext4
You're out of cache. Different cause, same symptom. You can put data2ext on either Reborn or CM7. You create another partition on your SD card and /system/data gets moved to it - result: lots of room for apps, libs, data, cache, etc.HUH? I am not out of space on my phone, I am unable to update the programs on my phone that I have through the android market.
i looked through the theme page but i couldnt find it, was wondering if you had a stock theme layout for this rom?
edit: well i should say that there is a stock theme but it looks like its for an older version as it was built in may
Switched from Drews CM7 to this and now I can't activate, lovely...
What do you mean by "can't activate" could you elaborate?
