[ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slider

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-21 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slid

Higher cpu freq = less battery but if u want the frills without lag i bet u will have to. I personally dont need an off animation. The tingly feeling i get from watching it doesnt trump the need for good battery life. This is just my personal choice tho. Im running an evo 3d and underclock it to right under 1 ghz, even tho it runs stock at 1.2 ghz.

Im aware, but its just nice to have some personality to the phone besides the notification string edit.
Besides im running it on ondemand and not performance. ;)
plus with the tweaks for battery saves from the new kernel and the rom im sure it wont make too much of a diffrence.

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-21 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slid

I really do appreciate all of your work,
I really hope team hydro keeps the rom going in the future :D

Edit: I justtt got the new phonee and Its so much smoother then the previous 2
and I realized when I went to the about phone menu is that it has the lge@android-build #2 kernel version, where all the others have Build # 6
Whatss that mean? lol

You wernt very specific. Do you have team hyrdos gelato rom on the latest update? Or are you coming off a stock rom that you're looking at?

Sorry I wasn't paying much attention, that's your kernel version.

It's stock,
but my question is
whats the diffrence between that stock kernel
and the one thats packaged in this rom?
and why it seams to be smoother on that phone despite that lower number (which I guess means it was an earlier build?)

Its not packaged with the rom. You'll have to flash the rom and then flash the new kernel. In the original post posted by drew there's a log of all the changes made to the new kernel. Basically its optimizes the optimus. Makes it a better more snappy phone and helps save some battery life.

NOTE: you do not need the new rom to have this kernel. You can simply just flash the new kernel on top of the stock rom, if that's what you like. But remember you need optain root and a custom recovery for this. All the info you need is already posted in previous threads.

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-21 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slid

I believe he is asking what the difference is between the STOCK kernel build 2 and the STOCK build kernel 6. 2 different STOCK sliders that he has had. There were problems with his Slider that contained Build 6. I also would like to know the difference.

EDIT: Made me curious so I had to check both my sliders. The stock one has build 2 and i'm betting the other does also since I purchased both at the same time. You'll be impressed with how 11-21 and drews kernel work with this build

Yup, other is build 2 also

There is an 11 22 build out for the rom. Although it is beta. I ran it and works fine. Has a screen off animation also. And transistions are sped up.

This is exactly what I wanted to know
I really think 2 is better then 6

Ahhh you took off the screen off animation :(
But very well done. Look forward to further updates for this ROM.

yeppers. sticking with the whole goal of giving a stock looking rom chocked full of performance and functionality, it had to go. The good news is, that's another thing that the team hydro themers will be working on so they can provide many options that will suit peoples needs :)

I was just tinkering and playing around and noticed a glaring example of LG's laziness or just plain sloppiness. They actually left a file in the framework for a verizon build of their code

Theres 2 possibilities and we'll need to figure out which is true but ...
1) They got sloppy and left it and it performs no function and serves no purpose
2) They got lazy and rather than rename the file and change the code references to the new name, they left it with the verizon name

My guess and gut feeling tells me #1 is probably the case here.

EDIT - I should also point out that LG has a history of doing this. The GB build they pushed for the Sprint Optimus S had 6 or so unused Verizon framework files and an apk that performed no function that was from a Verizon phone.

Very nice, any hints on when the first release is going to be for the new ROM?
And maybe take out the file in the framework and run without and and see if it missing causes any issues.

Do you possibly think that drew would build a kernel around build 2?
it seams to perform allot better then the version 6 Build

I never provide ETA's. Instead, i provide the promise that when it can be done, and done right, i'll make the update publicly available. That way I'm not trying to meet deadlines for a hobby (that makes it feel like work! lol), and you can be confident that when i release anything it wasn't rushed out the door.

I'm flashing on my girls phone now to play a bit and see what the outcome of removing that file is. I'm 99% sure they just got sloppy but I'll check as much as i can until she takes it back.

You'd need to ask him. I'm sure he's willing to, time permitting, but i know he's visiting family out of state for the holiday so he's not as available as he typically is.

NOTE* without the screen off animation the phones has about 20mb more memory than with it. I'm not sure if its 100% the animation that reducded the memory that much but on the 11 21 build I could easily have and maintain a 280 mb. With the 11 22 beta it was reduced. To about 250 give or take. And with the new one you just released. Its around the 280 range.

Would be unrelated. The animation is in all the builds including the one on a stock untouched phone. LG makes a change in the framework telling the phone not to use it so it's literally changing 1 line in 1 file from "true" to "false", then editing 1 line in the build properties and viola ... animation.

I took a swing at adding the 300ish lines of code omitted that would enable the crt screen on animation but upon compiling i was getting plenty of errors. I tried a few times to fix it but at a certain point i need to decide if the reward is worth the investment. Troubleshooting 300 lines of code i just added, simply for that visual animation, didn't seem worth it ::shrugs::

I'm happy saying i tried and failed miserably rather than never trying at all :p

Then what do you think could be sucking up all that memory in the beta build? What's diffrent from the beta than our current or the 11 21
