[ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slider

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] LG VM701_Gelato 11-13

Flashed over your latest rom
Extremely laggy UI is still there :/
which baffles me seeing how its not apparent on other phones and their using stock
did see a good memory increase though

And it lagged like hell on stock too? Man i dont know dude, if your phone lags while it's clean and fresh you may have a bigger underlying issue.

I'd suggest you try cranking the CPU back up to 800MHz, like LG did, but thats how it came stock and you said it lagged on stock so your phone isn't smooth even at 800MHz which is an issue.

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] LG VM701_Gelato 11-13

Drew has the kernel piece. He could provide insight, I've heard a little bit from him but i know he's busy with all kinds of projects but he is still working on it. The good news is his kernels are pretty damn nasty so I'm sure once he has a tester available it will be buttery.

The Optimus V kernel (or even the Optimus S kernel) will never work on the Optimus Slider because the hardware is just a little too different.

The CPU is technically different (and needs a little different OC hacks), the Wi-Fi chip is different, the camera is different, and I'm not 100% sure what else. In short, any Slider kernels will need to be build from the official Slider kernel source.

Now on to the issues I'm having with LG's Slider kernel source:
1) It behaves strangely when compiling with GCC 4.6. I'm about to install an older version of Ubuntu on my HP server and see if using GCC 4.5 solves the issue, but:
2) The kernel built fine the first time (with ZERO modification, 100% stock source). Any subsequent compiles failed almost instantly, producing very cryptic error messages. Furthermore, when attempting to change/set the "machine type" in the configuration, there is no option that isn't a desktop PC platform. GCC 4.6 could be the issue, or LG sucks. Or both. I guess we'll find out soon.

Exactly,
like I know the kernel is botched buttt the UI shouldn't be this bad.
But I also downloaded seePU and the processor never completely maxes out when window animations are happening..
faulty GPU maybe?
eh :/
I ordered a new phone from virgin.

I see,
well please keep us informed!

Feel like trying 1 more build? It wouldnt require a wipe or anything, just flash over top. The goal of the build would be to assist the UI a bit more.

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] LG VM701_Gelato 11-13

I'm at your service :D

HERE is the link, you know the drill

forced launcher into memory to prevent redraws
upped the maximum events to smooth out scrolling
raised jpg quality to 100%
raised dalvik heap size to 48
decreased dial out delay
couple tweaks to save a bit more battery
disabled usb debug notification in the status bar
increased responsiveness of touchscreen
The changes you had from before (this is for my notes lol)
dalvik cache to /cache
updated youtube and moved to /system
raised min freq on boot.

Alright I'm pretty sure I know the issue. Easy fix but I'm headed to a friends anniversary celebration. It stinks cause it's a 10 second fix but I have no PC. Thanks for testing though. Not having a device your working on is a PITA lmfao

This is the only way we can get the optimus slider community kicked off soo
you have to start somewhere :D

Do you have root explorer or file expert installed on your phone? If so go to /system/build.prop and fix a line that mentions Max_events. The default value should be 60. Change that to 150, reboot the phone.

Should look like this
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=150

Let me know if that smooths out scrolling at all. It helps scrolling.

Edit - also add this line to the bottom of the build.prop

ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1

This line forces the launcher aka home to memory to prevent redraws

It won't allow me to edit anything
I click save and it just never saves

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] LG VM701_Gelato 11-13

Hey, I just downloaded your ROM and... nice. I would feel more comfortable if the Activate app was tucked back safely in the system folder, but being rooted now that shouldn't be too difficult to change.

Will you add a reboot/recovery option in the future? That was one of the easy fixes I've seen in previous ROMs, and I was surprised you hadn't actually implemented one. Minor detail, but still.

Also, tethering doesn't seem to work with any settings... how sad :(

Well you are definitely making progress
sliding transitions seam to be a little more fluid
however opening windows and bringing up the context menus is still choppy :/
