[ROM] TrulyEpic Rebirth v1.5 AC - no planned EB13 update :'(

Wow, first time rooting and putting on a new rom, and the thing really does fly...I would have never thought I was missing anything, but now I don't think I could ever go back.

2 questions -

1. Is there a way to remove homescreens from the default launcher? I just don't need 5.

2. I tried out the light black theme but now I think I want to go back to the grey one (just personal preference)...how do I do that?

Thanks to everyone in on this thing, it is great.

1. AMlauncher is very basic(for better speed) and does not support removing screens but you could always install Launcherpro or ADW.launcher and do that with them and make them look similar to AMlauncher.

2. As far as I know if you just flash the rom zip again it will restore the original them.

So I saw this post on the main page last night and I've been putting off rooting and doing anything worthwhile with my phone for some time now. I figured it was 2am, I was on a Red Bull bender, no reason for putting this off any longer.

Installed 2.2 via the instructions in the main post links, and the links those lead me through. No problems, no problems. Came back, booted to clock, installed... easy as pie.

I don't know why I waited so long but anyone looking for a good and simple first experience into making this phone run like it should, look no further. Massive thanks.

My only question is (and perhaps I'm just blind) does this not come with a stock alarm clock? I could just be hallucinating. Oh and I'd trade any portion of Samsung's built in UI for having my Samsung Moment's Calendar Widget back (the stock Google one that this ROM has), so I give you two cookies kind sir.

Also, tips for people that were new like I was: Read. Read everything. Read through every post before you even plug your phone in to your computer. Read about what Odin is, ways to get DK28, what problems you might have right off the bat, read through all the documentation for rooting, Clockwork, etc.

If you do that, then when you go back through step by step with the procedure write ups you'll breeze through it all. Just my advice.

For those looking for where to start, take a look at the epic-lag-fix thread. The first post gives step by step instructions...

That will set you up with DK28 if you don't have it already, and gives the step by step instructions for setting up CWM v3.0.0.5, used to flash this ROM.

Step 6 in that thread will give you the instructions on how to flash this ROM.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info, you got me going in the right direction.

I managed to get the steps figured out to get CWMod installed, and flashed TrulyEpic fairly easily.

The only issue I had was (and I should have known this) that the stock dk28 ROM will NOT boot with an ext4 filesystem. It just sits there on the SAMSUNG screen, and never goes anywhere.

Took me a couple reflashes with Odin before I realized I could just boot into CW and flash TrulyEpic from the SD card.

Everything seems to be working good right now. Really love the ROM, great work.

I would really like to put this on my stock Epic (2.1-update 1, DG17) but don't know where to start..... especially after reading this thread.

If someone can give me a quick overview I'm sure I can figure it all out. Really just don't know what things need to happen and in what order.

Thanks in advance,
Yuma

So my first step should be to "Restore to Froyo DK28" from the Factory Restore thread.

Then head over to step 1 from the Epic Lag Fix: RFS to EXT4 thread?

1. Install DK28 Follow the instructions on this page, about halfway down titled "New: Restore to Froyo DK28"

2. Root and install ClockworkMod3 and ext4 following the instructions in this thread.

3. Copy the Truly Epic Zip file to your SD card and boot into ClockworkMod3 and flash as described at the bottom of the link in #2.

Depends on what you want to backup.

Any files stored on your SD card will be fine. Music, pics, video, documents, etc.

The market will remember any aps you have purchased and let you re-download and install them, but it wont remember any free apps you have downloaded. So you might want to jot them down, or use Astro file manager or Titanium Backup to make backups on your SD card.

As for contacts, if you use gmail/google account, all your contacts will re-sync automagically. If they are stored locally on your phone, you will need to use something like Titanium backup.

You will want to do any backups before you update to DK28.

Yep, GPS is dead. Anyone able to get to LBSTESTMode settings using this ROM? I have tried several codes and none seem to work.

Didn't work for me...

Ok, so I followed the steps, no problem, ran the calibration utility, put the phone on it's side edge, as it told me to, and then it ran... Now my apps are all rotated 180. They completely disregard the rotation of the device. If I open physical keyboard it rotates the correct way, but if I close it, no matter how I hold the phone, it is in landscape mode (like if the keyboard is open), but facing the wrong way.

Any ideas?
UPDATE: I have now rerun sensorcalibutil_yamaha several times... I placed the phone on my desk
- in landscape mode, (as if you're about to open the keyboard). But I had the phone's EDGE, not BACK on the desk.
- sitting on the desk on it's back
- in portrait mode, with the bottom edge (where the "Samsung" label is) sitting on my desk.

No matter what I did, ALL apps open only in landscape mode, and pointed the wrong way, unless I slide out keyboard, at which point they open the right way. Hopefully somebody has an idea on that. Thanks

UPDATE 2: Oddly, in the couple minutes it took me to write this update, the problem went away. very strange because I did NOTHING except sit the phone down and write this update. Not sure what's up with that... I can report now that the lag is gone.. when I re-orient the phone, it switches modes very quickly.

THANKS.

Lag rotation? I think I know what you are talking about and how to fix it. Are flying games like winds of steel affected at all? if so then I tink I am understanding what is going on. Every time I fash a froyo rom I have a slight lag in rotation and in flying games the plane don't fly right. To fix this i have to calibrate sensors not by using the option in settings but by downloadin android terminal emulator by jack something. then follow this

Type: su then hit enterand allow the app root
Then type: /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha and hit enter then just folow directions. Exit app turn off screen, turn it back on and then it should fix the lag

My GPS is working fine.

I tried to get LBStestmode through LauncherPro, but its not listed.

Slow Charging?

Anybody experience INCREDIBLY slow charging times while charging via USB?

I have a USB 2.0 laptop and I know it's only putting out .5w, but I think it charges a lot slower than before this ROM. Anybody experience similar? It could be in my head, but I think it's pretty pronounced.

Thanks

is anyone having a problem with sms messages having the wrong time stamp so their messages are out of order? For example, a new text comes in at 3:30pm but my phone says its only 3:26pm. so when I text back it goes before theirs. I've installed truly epic 1.2, sprint vmail, and sms bubble thing.

Working mostly well for me.
A couple things, the stock email app is not loading emails. I have 2 different accounts logged in, 1 yahoo, 1 hotmail and neither will display the emails. I have received a notification I have emails though...strange...
(Gmail app working fine)

I do not see any file folder to access my sd card, is this normal?

Contact pics so far not showing when phone call is received. I also noticed texts shows a self loaded contact pic but not facebook pics like it did before. Anyone else notice this, is this a setting I need to switch?

Lastly maybe its just me but pic gallery seems slower.

Really besides that things seem to be working very good. Market apps that dissapeared with dk28 are back. Phone stays way cooler while charging and using it than with dk28. Not sure if the battery seems any better but have not had much time to compare + I have been reloading things all day, cause I poo poo'd my backup. I will try gps tonight. Internet and 4g are working fine. I like the lockscreen better.

In the market did samsung remove the car & home dock apps?
If I install the samsung update file on pg1 will it give me the wallpapers from stock?

If you're having problems with email, flash the stock email app from post #1.

Download the file manager of your choice from the Market: Root Explorer, ASTRO, etc.

Is your phone linked to the same GMail account? Is it syncing properly?

Yes, the stock wallpapers are part of the TouchWiz launcher so flashing the Samsung apps will give you access to them.

Is there any way to Uninstall bonsai4all font? Also, my wifi won't stay connected if I shut my screen off. Please is there a fix for that? Otherwise, great work on an excellent ROM!
