Too many people complaining about this and that. Do yourself a favor and root your phone. There are plenty of custom ROMs out there that may solve some of your issues. I highly, highly recommend it.

Problem being that rooting and ROMing brings its own set of problems.

For every person complaining about issues on the stock device, you'll see 2 more of people complaining about bugs in their custom ROM. Its a tradeoff, rooting and using a custom ROM isn't a magical unicorn that fixes everything and is perfect.

Lots of ppl are hesitant to root for whatever reason and that's fine.

However, if you are somewhat of an adventurous type, go for it. If you think yeah I can tweak my unrooted phone anyway I like, you can't even begin to imagine what tweaking a rooted phone can be. You would be amazed what the current crop of custom roms are capable of, not to mention the plethora of themes out there that can totally transform your eye candy experience.

One caveat is this activity can get extremely addicting. Come on over to the rooting section and we can help you ease your rooting anxiety.

I have rooted all of my android devices but have never tried an alternate ROM and have no desire to do so.
Installing a new ROM is not a fix and lots of people simply want their devices to work well out of the box.

Such as?

I see so many people with questions, etc...9 times out of 10 I say, well I can do that etc...now that I have rooted. Just sayin'

Rooting alone doesn't do anything but give more access.
Installing ROMs is a different process and it isn't for everyone.
I have read many threads of people having minor to major problems after installing new ROMs.
If you're happy doing that, fine, but not everyone wants to do it.

I've heard about the whole "rooting section", but it's never been made clear to me what important things I'd be able to do that I can't do now, aside from themes (I was into them when I had a Blackberry, now not so much). I won't overclock the phone. My phone works just fine out of the box.

Such as launching the camera makes the phone reboot, not doing it correctly turning their phone into a brick, having apps that used to work no longer working, etc.

Have you formed your opinion by actually flashing a custom rom and experienced those issues firsthand?

These roms are made by experienced developers and they know their stuff. One app that I have had trouble with is MyVerizon...but there are easy workarounds to fix. Eveything is working fine on my phone.

Flashing stuff on this phone and screwing up is super easy to fix with a nandroid backup. Plus with fastboot this phone is 99.9999% unbrickable.

I don't want the responsibility of rooting, especially if you go with custom ROM's. My phone just works stock. Also, you shouldn't have to root to have a phone that "just works" or to fix basic functionality. If that's the case, there is something inherently broken with the phone. Finally, working in the IT field and a background of defense in depth (layered security); I'm concerned with removing the "layer of security" that rooting may cause (removing the limited user/least privilege, thus running as a full administrator).

1. I already stated I have never nor have a desire to try an alternate ROM.

2. The phones are built with software created by experienced developers and they have problems.

As someone who really enjoys having a rooted phone with a lovely rom on top, it frustrates me to see posts like this :/ Rooting is not a panacea, and I relate to the people that want their phone to "just work."

Bear in mind that some things you don't think are issues may be an issue for someone else. Aside from bugs, there are other reasons people choose not to root. Having to delete everything off the phone and reset all the settings options is a big issue for some people. The idea of having to repeat a delete-restore-retweak process (since frequently, you can't restore certain system settings data or you risk upsetting the rom) every week to keep up with updates can be even worse.

It's all a matter of which issues you're willing to live with and which you want to go to the greatest lengths you can to fix. Issues you're willing to complain about or research don't always fall into the "greatest lengths" category.

If you use a PC, you are the administrator. Phones out of the box don't allow that unless rooted.

You have never and will never root your phone, yet you know they have problems. Right on, man. Just trying to suggest something that will make the device better for those who whine (not necessarily you) and complain about..."I wish it did this...,etc."

You're not very good at comprehending what you read.
I said I never have nor have any desire to try alternate ROMs.
I also have already said I have rooted all of my Android devices. Rooting and installing ROMs are not the same thing.

Also, just because I have never tried an alternate ROM doesn't mean I can't read posts from others who have tried it and have had problems.

Such as, in the same way that no stock software is perfect, no custom software is perfect either. I think its quite a misnomer that there is something inherently more stable about a custom ROM when compared to a stock software build. In fact, the opposite is often true.

The issue I have with a lot of custom ROMs and the modding community is that every sentence about fixing a problem starts with "All you have to do is...." followed by a 20 step guide on how to fix it. And in the end it won't necessarily fix your problem. Going into custom ROMs and modding is just a rabbit hole of chasing the "perfect ROM" by mixing and matching all kinds of things.

Don't get me wrong, I like rooting and ROMing I think its pretty fun. I've ran about every custom ROM under the sun on my Evo and G2, but I don't care for people who think rooting and ROMing is literally the only way to run your phone. Honestly, it is not for everyone... actually, its probably not for most people. For the non-technical or regular user, it brings more hassles than it fixes.
