rooting, roms, and hacks

Hi folks, first time post. I'm a techy guy and am pretty adept at figuring things out, but I'm a bit stumped as I'm new to Android.

I have a bit of a different question. I'm following the links at the beginning of this thread for the "how-to" on rooting my new SR, and the subsequent link to get ADB running...

What Is ADB And How To Install It With Android SDK

I've got the android sdk installed on my laptop running Win7 64bit. I have the usb tools installed and have connected the phone as instructed but the command "adb devices" at the DOS prompt doesn't show my phone as connected/listed.

Anybody got any hints?

It runs a 2.3.5/2.3.6 hybrid, and has 3 kernel versions to choose from, stock, stockish, and overclocked.

This was the missing piece for me. I thought it was actually a 2.4 ROM on true ICS, not a Gingerbread ROM with ICS simulated through a specific launcher.

I'm running it now and it works great for a custom ROM (or any ROM for that matter). Plus I love the Back Light notification and the fact that CIQ is gone but it is not ICS. I guess its just not possible to take the stock code from Google ICS and "port" it over to something the SkyRocket can use? Obviously I'm still learning here but are we stuck on options for 2.4 until Samsung releases their ICS version later this quarter for true ICS Roms?
