Rs988 nougat 7.0 update.

This is complete madness. Who ever heard of carrier models getting updates first? I have launched a twitter shaming campaign against LG (Twitter @LGUSAMobile). My focus is on security and patch level in the hopes of embarrassing them into taking action. Every time their marketing people tweet news about their mobile devices, I will be there to shame them. It would be great to get support from others in this community to also launch a Twitter attack. LG is focused on the V20, but we can't let them forget about their other flagship and their obligations.

I would like to join in but I do not have a twitter account.

As a fellow RS988 owner (still on the Sept. security patch by the way), this sounds like a great idea. If you haven't already done so, I'd suggest you also post this over on the LG G5 forum on XDA. Perhaps we'll get lucky.

I don't have Twitter unfortunately but that is a good idea. I have been spreading the word about this on various Android sites. I messaged Droid Life to see if they would do a story on this but nothing yet. Maybe Android Central can look into doing a story on this? Probably going to a used Verizon Galaxy S7. At least I will be using a phone that has features and security updates.

Thanks everyone for your support in targeting LG through social media and forum posts. This is day 3 of me assaulting LG on Twitter and no response yet. They must have a social media team and I can't see them allowing this campaign to continue without responding. I do see others have joined on Twitter too. There is strength in numbers. I don't have a Facebook account (yeah, I'm probably the only one), but I might sign up just for this. Lol, this is now all out war (if I can use that word). :p

Thanks for your support @Diablo_692. It is interesting that your RS988 has the September patch. I am stuck on July. Anyone else on this thread still stuck on the July patch? Screen capture attached.

I misspoke, I too only have the July security patch, but it came to my phone in September resulting in my confusion. My s/w info. screen looks exactly like the one you posted above.

Oh, and by the way Skip501, you're not the only one. I have neither Facebook nor Twitter! May have to consider getting an account so I can join the rest of the neglected crowd.

I was able to find an email address for the LG Electronics USA president, who also oversees LGE Mobile. I am going to give it until end of day this Friday, then when I am back after New Years, first week of January, I launch an attack from the top. Let's squeeze these bastards from the top down and the bottom up and see what comes out the middle. I expect it may be some form of brown sauce but oh well. I say that tongue in cheek, of course. Who says we can't have a bit of fun with this? :p

definitely interested. PM me the email address.

I just had an online chat with LG and sent this message to give to LG management.
"Please forward this to the upper level management at LG. There are 2 big issues I have with the LG G5 RS988. The people who buy the unlocked version are usually the true fans who are loyal to LG. The unlocked version usually can unlock the bootloader because there is no carrier controlling LG and are also usually the first to get updates because there is no carrier to add bloatware to the phone. However, the RS988 owners are being treated like second class citizens. The T Mobile version can unlock the bootloader but not the RS988 version. The carrier versions (ATT, Verizon, etc) are now getting the Nougat update, but the RS988 has not yet. Why did I pay full price for an unlocked version only to be treated as a second class citizen? The true LG fans are online defending LG when Samsung S7 users are bashing the LG G5, but once you lose their loyalty, they will likely switch to Samsung or Apple and you will lose their support. As LG does not have the same market share as Samsung and Apple, how can you not care about keeping the loyalty of your true fans, the ones who will defend you online? I hope the management at LG gets this message. Please listen to your customers because they will speak with their wallet the next time they buy a phone and LG will lose even more market share."
The more channels we use to voice our opinions, the more likely they will listen.

Hey @Bostski, thanks for taking the time to do this. The more of us that formally complain the better. Let us know about any results.

When I read your note I got to thinking about the Samsung's that I have owned previously (I had an S7 and others) and I currently own a Pixel XL and a Moto Z, along with the G5 (I am a phone junky). Despite having the Pixel and Moto, I always gravitate back to the G5 as my daily driver even though it remains on 6.0.1. It is a damn fine phone, great specs and performance, killer camera, a pleasure to use, and I think that it is without a doubt the best phone from the 2016 'season'. LG has an opportunity here and it is making me sad to see them squander it by pissing off its, to your words 'true fans'.

Cheers

LG forgot the Flex 2 ever existed, one of their last year's "flagships".

The first mobile sporting the Snapdragon 810 still on Android Lollipop.

One of the main reasons I went with Moto (Z Play) this time around and I don't regret :-)

14 hours SOT and those Mods /Style Shells...there is no competition...best of 2016.

A couple years from now LG Mobile will be gone. I can't see anyone buying there phones in the future. They really aren't in the position to be pissing anyone off. Apple or Google wouldn't pull this crap.

Why o why LG, why have you forsaken us. Your phone is the last refuge of the removable battery, you have updated all the other versions and yet you shun the ones that had to wait for the unlocked version to become available, we are not the customers that buy your phone because it is sexy, we buy it because of its unique features. And now you withold the glorry of android 7, you will loose your base with this move. I still love my removable battery, but as quick charge becomes better and better, it looses its muster, please lg release our update, please. I want to run 2 windows at the same time.
