s-pen useless on this tablet?

I have had this tablet since release and seem to never use the S pen. I very rarely draw. My device is rooted but I haven't installed anything for s pen. Now I have a note 4 and can't stop using the spen. Am I missing something?

I'm just the opposite. I constantly use the S Pen on this. I take all of my notes on it (mostly with Lecture Notes), hand-written with the S Pen. It has eliminated most paper for me. I use the S Pen less frequently on my Note 4.

Why don't you want to use the S-pen? Obviously you are used to using one. what seems to be the problem?

You should give writing with it a try. I write with it almost exclusively. I love it.

Useless no, it's the single most reason that I bought this thing. That and the fact that this is the largest android tablet with an active stylus. The fact that you don't use it isn't a flaw but just an example of you not needing it lol.

As for the note 4...I love mine ... I hope we get the same S-Pen features as the Note 4 someday soon.

I'd like to use it more, but the pen writes so thickly, like the app was not scaled from a 4-inch phone to a 12-inch tablet. Even selecting the "finest" point still looks like a kindergarten crayon.

I'd also like it to translate written text to typed. Maybe I'm thick, or maybe I need specialised apps, because I'd like to quickly write a note in Google Keep, for example, and have it turn into typed.

I know really fine point writing can be done, because on a recent flight I saw a guy with a GNP 12.2 and he was writing very small text (which may have remained "written" as I could not see much other than he was writing into a grid of very small cells).

You should be able to do this. I do it all the time on my Note 4.

Screen size on the Note 4 is a bit smaller compared to the GNP 12.2. And it feels like the app acts like it's been zoomed up, rather than rescaling for a larger physical screen. That is my problem: how to get a properly scaled app for a 12-inch screen rather than a 5-inch.

You can use the pen like a mouse too. I have a Bluetooth mouse but still use the pen for clicking sometimes. Mostly use it for memos. Just wish I could sync memos with my Note 3 memos.

If I had to guess, you're talking about Action Memo and S-Note . . to which I'd agree. They kind of suck but are simplistic in nature to capture a wider audience which apparently I don't belong in LOL.

Well I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for but for me I like LectureNotes for all of my note taking now. My note taking style is plain and simple yellow pad replacement meaning to say that I do not care to have my handwritten notes converted to text. I do not need them indexed because I rarely go back to them unless I really have to. I use Dropsync to sync my notes to my Dropbox and that keeps them synced between Note Pro and Note 4.

Another good note taking application is Papyrus. Try that one first.

For simple quick notes I'm using Google Keep but I'm not a heavy user of simple note taking apps.

Saying that "S-Pen is useless on this tablet" is incorrect. I have an iPad and spent large sum of money trying the get a pen that works like the S-Pen without luck. It was the only reason I had to buy this tablet and I don't regret it. Its just great if you use the right apps.

S-Note is a great app if you take your time to learn how to use it. What I find horrible are the papers that are available - I think they were designed by a little princess. I had to make custom designs to resemble a real note book. It lags a bit in portrait but faster in landscape. All in all, its a great app - you just don't need an alternative if you don't write very often - I use it regularly.

LectureNotes is also great and well known for its functions, there are voice and video recording extensions available which makes it the no. 1 app for students and researchers. INKredible is a new app but its pen styles are nothing comparable to any app on the market for now. Papyrus is also great but too simple for my taste. They all have their pros and cons though, but trust me, you'll be just fine with S-Note if you have the right papers - I love the widget too.

I agree. The Spen is wonderful. I also use SNote and lecture notes and SPen works fine. I use Inkredible for doodling and CAD for days I feel creative. IPad don't hold a candle to Android Note Pads. I was very happy to see a stylus/pen come back to devices.
Where did you find new designs for SNote paper. I would like to change mine also

no. I used Fireworks. You could also use Photoshop or any design application that can export to jpg,png or whatever. It should be able to be imported with S-Note as background. You can also use MS Paint, the default paint app that came with windows.

You can just open any of the jpg files above and save it to your computer and then import it as background into your S-Note. Enjoy it!
