S22 Ultra Camera Reviews

Not into video but thought I would post for others. But viewing I disagree with a lot of what he is saying, but video, is just like still photography; many points of disagreement is subjective. Everything about photography is subjective even the subjects.

The Mr Who’s the boss comments on shutter lag (I think he maybe meant longer exposure) are worrying, my biggest beef with Samsung phones.

Didn't someone say there was a setting on the S22U for children and pets? And if so, what does it do?

And can you set a shutter speed using RAW mode on the S22U.

And does EXPERT RAW come on the S22 or do you have to download via play store. And pretty sure this was an additional RAW mode vs the RAW mode that comes with the phone.

I saw a mention of it in a video but I believe it allowed you to tap on the subject to follow them around and keeping them centered in the video.

It's an app you will have to download, from the looks of the snapshots I saw, it's a seperate photo editior for only the RAW files. Some of the sliders reminded me of photoshop RAW where you can adjust hightlights, shadows and what not to try and bring back some more detail.

Yes, it is annoying with the Galaxy cameras. It's one of my pain points with the S21U and seems like they didn't fix it with the S22. I figure they don't believe it's big enough of an issue to address it. It sucks when you're taking photos of something that moves (kids/pets) and ends up in a blur. I recall trying to manually change the shutter speed to a father speed, it just left darker images so you can't win.

Oh well. Just have to put up with it I guess.

I rarely use zoom, but the 30x optical zoom seems pretty impressive from what I've seen in some videos.

I played around with an S22 Ultra in a carrier store today. I tried a 30x zoom shot. A little bit of knowledge and skill required.

If you select 3:4 aspect ratio, then press and hold on a spot to lock in a focus, and then hold the phone very still, you get a remarkably good image. One of my 30x zoom shots I was absolutely blown away by.

I tried a few times at 30x and results varied. Changing the aspect ratio to full lowers the resolution and you don't get as detailed a shot. And letting the phone focus by itself isn't as good as pressing and holding onto a focal spot until a yellow focusing circle appears and locks in that position.

So 3 things for really good zoom shots up to about 30x.

1. 3:4 aspect ratio.
2. Press and hold onto an area you want to focus on until a yellow circle appears.
3. Hold very steady. The yellow focus circle goes a very pale yellow indicating focal lock. Hold very steady and press the shutter.

Easy peasy :)

You've been able to set shutter speed since the S6/N5. Would be lame if Samsung removed that. Lol

It would help if the tech YouTubers made more of it, Mrwhostheboss mentioning it in passing is a a start I guess but he did not really make a big deal. I guess they are all scared of being snubbed by Samsung.

I am on the fence over cancelling my pre-order now TBH, was also interesting how apparently the 3x zoom is not that great (vs. the iPhone at least). I have time but will wait on some more reviews I think.

Many reviewers are afraid of getting snubbed. I have written audiophile reviewes for years, way before all of the glut of pandemic reviewers, and I have ticked some developers off, but meh I dont' care.

When I had the S21U I set the camera to start in pro mode which gave slightly better results, still not at iPhone or Pixel levels though.

I am hopeful that ASBYT may cover it, he mentioned in his unboxing. You'd hope that Marques would too.

Expert raw is a program that appears to be available only for the S21/S22 ultra models. It hit the market Feb 25.

Expert Raw is available for the S21 Ultra from apk mirror and a few other sources. I installed it, but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. It should be in the Play Store soon.

You're right. Appears to be some extra compression when linked. Original on twitter shows a twitter.com link, photos here show an upload.tapatalk.com link.

Appears to me the bokah might be a bit over aggressive and somewhat still in the depth of field. But only three photos is not enough to say it is the Bokah.

Otherwise, good photos and cute dog. But I'm a sucker for dog and wolf photos.

Yeah, not sure I'd have opted to go with portrait mode in this scenario, I usually go with portrait mode when the subject is very still. But still like the result of these over previous Samsungs.

What I'd really like to know is how many pics he snapped. Are these the first results from simple point and shoot or are these the best results after several failed attempts?

But I'm with you, any pic of a dog is a good pic

Hopefully, these photos will be part of his review. Just checked and nothing new from him yet.

Does anyone not shoot a ton of dog photos of their dog?

I remember the days of my Nikon F5 and a 36 exposure roll of slide film. Hit the button and do 8 frames per second and boom; you were done in four seconds. Now, with my Nikon D850; crank it to 8 frames per second and with a large card you can go on forever, or so it feels like that.
