S22 Ultra Camera Reviews

Mmm, this is not looking good for the camera so far.

I have had a TON of Samsung flagship phones and they all seem to have a little slow shutter speed.
As innovative and technology advance as most Samsung phones are...you would think that would be number one focus to improve.

I agree with many samsung phones but I find the shutter speed on S22 ultra a little quicker than the Note 20 ultra, from my experience

My old S8+ doesn't have any noticeable delay.
You're right though, it should be a priority to fix it, especially since the S21 got the same complaints IIRC.

Is there any way you can make it faster by changing mode or setting? I'm trying to find info about it but it's not going great. I've tried demo units but I don't know how close they are to retail phones.

I don't know of any way other than to try it in pro mode but then you may have to adjust other settings

Ok, so my S22U arrived yesterday and whilst it is early days so far pet photos are terrible. Trademark Samsung smudging and blurring is still present and correct. I'd say it is maybe it is slightly better than before but still not in the league of the Pixel or iPhone. Photos below were indoors but well lit with him right in front of a full length window.

The first one is really bad, but the second one doesn't look too bad IMO.

The second one is not terrible but if you zoom in the fur is smudged. It is certainly better than previous Samsungs but then the light for this one was pretty good.

The lag is bothering me more right now TBH, that and the fact my s-pen gt jammed in the phone on day one too!

Agree. And that first one is backlit with the windows which will affect an auto mode on most cameras. I guess one reason why I am looking to load camera raw and use the pro mode. Auto modes, even on my Nikon DSLRs suck big time.

Just curious, what phone are you coming from?

How'd the S-Pen get jammed? Been a while since I used one ... so can't remember if there is a specific way it needs to be inserted. I do remember one Note model (can't recall which) got a little flack for the S-Pen being able to slide in the wrong way resulting in it getting stuck. Is this a similar case?

Yeah, I'm going to try camera raw and try and take some time to learn pro mode ... I default to auto because pro modes are intimidating for me LOL.

Never tried pro mode on a phone, yet. However, all my years of using Nikons starting back in the film days to now with digital, I have never used a DLSR on auto mode. Usually aperture priority, which has a direct affect on the shutter speed. Not even sure if the pro mode on this S22 will have the same features. It will be a learning experience that's for sure.

It appears there is no aperture priority mode; however, there is a speed mode, direct correlation to aperture so I'll be given that a try. However, there is no setting that can compensate for experience. And extreme backlit conditions are not favorable to any photo. But sometimes it is the only photo available.

Maybe there is a use for an operator's manual....

Pro mode / Pro video mode

• ISO: Select an ISO value. This controls camera light sensitivity. Low values are for
stationary or brightly lit objects. Higher values are for fast-moving or poorly lit objects.
However, higher ISO settings can result in noise in pictures or videos.

• SPEED: Adjust the shutter speed. A slow shutter speed allows more light in, so the picture
or video becomes brighter. This is ideal for pictures or videos of scenery or pictures or
videos taken at night. A fast shutter speed allows less light in. This is ideal for capturing
pictures or videos of fast-moving subjects.

• EV: Change the exposure value. This determines how much light the camera’s sensor
receives. For low-light situations, use a higher exposure.

• FOCUS: Change the focus mode. Drag the adjustment bar to manually adjust the focus.

• WB: Select an appropriate white balance, so images have a true-to-life colour range. You
can set the colour temperature.

• MIC: Select which direction’s sound you want to record at a higher level. You can also use
a USB or Bluetooth microphone by connecting it to your device (Pro video mode).

• ZOOM: Adjust the zoom speed (Pro video mode).

The second one seems to be focused on his whiskers.

That was the Note 5 that people were putting in the S Pen upside down.
