S23 Regrets

No they will actually give you additional time if you need it. They wait about a month before charging you back for the discount you've received by using a trade.

When I changed my mind on a trade in and kept it instead I did nothing just let Samsung do is thing on the charge back.. It happened right away. It looks like that this is a normal Samsung thing, it is not consistent of what they do.

I'm not doubting you that they took that long I just know for me it was instant.

Been using for a day and so far no regrets. I have reset my S22 Ultra and packed up for trade in. Just going to hold on mailing the trade in until next Monday to make sure they don't have crazy trade in deals after the preorders end.

If I'll have to guess they might increase the trade in values to $650 for the S22 Ultra after preorders end to offset the pre-order credit and storage upgrade.

But the phone as a whole, it's been a pleasure to use the S23 Ultra. Super smooth and everything feels premium. Haven't had a chance to test with camera in depth as of now.

It does seem noticeably snappier than my S21U, which I am surprised by... wonder if it's in my head lol.
That is surprising. Every time I pop my SIM back in my S21 Ultra I'm still floored by how much of a beast that phone is. I guess it is 3 years old at this point. Did a factory reset but that's been over a year ago. I think you had an Exynos device if I recall so I guess that would be the difference.

I don't regret holding onto my Z Fold 3 for as long as I did, but I do NOT regret switching for the S23U.

This thing is just the pinnacle of what you can cram into such a small form factor.

Went from the S22U to S23U and for me, it was a huge upgrade, I am really glad I did it. Especially with the trade in program, promos, selling last year's phone, and the free Galaxy Buds, the upgrade is "free" every year if you're willing to put in a bit of effort.

Things I am really happy with:

1) Much improved cameras across the board, and you can now shoot 50MP RAW images and 10 minute exposures. Portrait mode has also seen significant improvements.
2) Much improved video stabilization, 8K30P, and stabilization also works for 8K. Also no crop on the video modes.
3) Less screen curve (so much better for S-pen use and just less annoying in general)
4) Quite a shocking increase in battery life. S22U was already good for an easy 2 days, the S23U is just plain ridiculous. I am losing 1% overnight and finishing the day with 60-70% using my phone constantly throughout the day for both work and personal.
5) Noticeably better speakers, they sound much more full. Bass has been improved a lot, to the extent you can even have "bass" with miniature drivers haha.
6) It is ridiculously snappy, as in literally instant for most tasks (once you reduce animations). The S22U was as well though, so some of this might be in my head. Android Auto seems faster as well, but it also got a major UI update recently so some of it may be attributed to that.

Really the camera upgrades were what I was after the most and they did not disappoint, for my personal usage, that was easily worth the upgrade. If all you do is text, call, and use social media, you probably won't see as much value in the upgrade coming from a S21U or S22U, so as always, it's relative.

I wouldn't classify this as a regret, but my new S23 isn't that noticeably better than my S21. With my normal use it doesn't seem any faster. I haven't tested the cameras or battery life yet, but to me the upgrade wasn't a big improvement. In the long run it was probably still a good move as I now have a fresh battery and the latest tech in components.

Yeah, I think the 2100 was probably the best Exynos in recent years, definitely better than the 2200 that came after. But it was still an Exynos lol.

Do a FDR on your s21 and it might become a snappy again also

Yeah... no, lol.

Coming from a Note 10+, I’m thinking that even if I have some reservations - the note 10+ just feels SOO comfortable in the hand, vs. any of the newer phones starting with the S21/S22 ultra, this is probably that LAST chance to get any reasonable TIV for the trusty note 10+. I’m not sure what makes all the newer phones that much heavier and thicker - ok, it’s for sure larger batteries, bigger cameras, MAYBE a tiny bit of material change for durability, etc. - but none of those things have been necessary for me. But, I’d love to see the more IPhone 14 PLUS type of size feel - more a note 10+ form factor with updated internals and longevity but I doubt any Samsung product manager is planning for some a unicorn.

Same here, I went from base S21 to base S23 and that is probably the only difference I am noticing between the phones. Will need to play around with it for a few days but I'm not seeing a huge difference in the cameras.

I came from a Z Fold 3, my wife has an S22U and we tried a test. installing Apps from the Play Store.

The S23U is SIGNIFICANTLY faster not on downloading, but also installation. I guess the faster storage on the S23U is really that much faster. It's almost insane.

Both devices are on our WiFi 6e and the S23U just seems to take it and run, when the S22U jogs.

I think buyer's remorse for brand-new and just-released phones hit harder and in a more unique way than when you're getting a new phone that's been out for a while.

OP, can you see yourself using your S23 long-term? It's okay to send it back! I too would hesitate a little if I had an S22 and the S23 had just launched.

Despite the noticeable differences with the S22U and S23U (from what my wife and I have found), she still has no desire to upgrade since most of what she uses her phone for, the added benefits from the upgrade would not make much of a difference in her daily usage.

You really should look at everything and decide if it's really worth it.

Maybe in a couple more years, she will want to upgrade, but for now, she is happy with what she has now. Upgrading to the latest is not for everyone.

Does anyone know what the trade-in process looks like if your phone isn't paid off? S21 Ultra purchased through Samsung.

I traded in my Z Fold 3 that I still owe a couple hundred on. There wasn't an issue as the payment plan isn't tied to the phone being used and active. Just keep making payments.

If you bought through a carrier, then you might want to ask them.

edit: During the trade-in process, they ask for the IMEI, so if there is an issue, it will be flagged then.
