I noticed that when connected to my PC with a USB cable, that any connection is lost when the phone screen times out.

I use PDANet and a generic data window (windows explorer). When the phone screen times out PDANet craps out and the windows explorer window of any drive on the phone closes.

Anyone else experience this? I looked for a setting, but couldn't find any.

thanks

I am also experiencing the same problem and trying to look for technical support.
Will let you know of any info I get.

Wish I could help, Im using EasyTether connected to my laptop and not having any problems with timeouts..

Do you have 'USB debugging' checked under Settings -> Developer options? Do you have 'Disable debug mode' unchecked under Settings -> Security?

know its not a fix but why not just set time-out to 10mins and just tap the screen every so often

After experimenting with the S3 Settings, I have come to the same solution.
Leaving the phone Debugging enabled allows the phone to stay connected to the PC

I still had problems even with the Debugging allowed checked. The only fix I was able to find was to use the clockwork tether app. I am sure you can use EasyTether as well. I have had it running and surfing the web for over 2 hours and no time out. I am able to get into my folders and transfer back and forth with no time out issues. It may be a work around but it works and was quick and easy to do.
