S4 Battery Drains Fast

As the title says the battery life on my S4 is shorter than I'd like it to be and if I start out with it fully charged at the beginning of the day by the afternoon its used up most of its battery even though I don't use it much. I'm in school all day and I check it then in again just for a few minutes to do some browsing and in total I'm on it no more than 25 minutes throughout that time. I'll be using it for a few minutes and when I look back at the battery its gone down several percent already. I have power saving location services on and auto sync but I have the brightness on the lowest setting. I think it has something to do with the fact that its roaming a lot because it automatically connects to the wifi at my school and when I'm switching from class to class I believe it has to go from one router/signal to another so I've tried keeping it on data but I don't know if that's any better. Any help is appreciated.

Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:


1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

Pay close attention to the Cell Signal Strength indicator. Poor signal is a common cause of battery drain.

I've been at home this whole time and it's only been on data so the signal shouldn't have changed much.

It'd help to see the stats after you've gone from 100% down to 20-30% (not down by 20-30%), just so that we get a good idea of the battery usage over the span of an entire battery charge.

In addition, it would help to see the total screen-on time.

How old is your battery? Batteries degrade over time, and this can be accelerated if you habitually discharge the battery deeply (i.e., let it drain to zero on a regular basis). As a general rule, charge when the battery gets to 30-40%. If your battery is more than a year old, try testing out a new or different battery.

Ok, but the other menu screens would also be helpful as previously recommended, since we want to see what individual battery usage by apps has been during this period, as well as total screen on time.

Tap the Screen entry in that menu to get the details, including the total Screen On Time.
