S4 won't turn on unless replacing battery, then turns off after two seconds?

Well Carlos Torres Vazquez, you are correct, same symptoms as everyone's S4 here, and I tapped a little on the power key, and it was in fact stuck! Thanks pal, everything is back to the norm now! Your a life saver, I mean phone saver! Two thumbs way up to you!

Thank you so much!!!!! This happened to my boyfriends phone and after tapping for like 20 minutes it worked :d!!!!!!! Bless your soul you genius!!!!!

I found the solution to the problem. You guys will have to open the phone and clean out the power switch. The problem is that the power switch its stuck or pushed down permanently, this was a known issue in the S3 guess they never fixed it in S4. It took me 10 mines to take it apart and clean it and now the phone works perfect!

NOPE! I know what's wrong everyone. It is the power button. it is stuck in. therefore when you take out the batter and put it back it, the button is already pushed in causing it to turn on by itself. But since it turns on the button is still pushed in causing it to turn off immediately. SOLUTION: take the phone and put it sideways where the power button is facing down on a table or some flat surface and don't slam it! but lightly hit it maybe a couple of times and the button will come unstuck. The phone should turn on by itself but the button isn't stuck so it will turn on perfectly fine. I am having the same problem right now actually and it is very frustrating but if do this then it should work.

I had to do a combination of both of these for the power button to get unstuck. It's unreal how such a problem could exist -_-

Thanks to both of you, I created this account just to give props for a problem that still haunts us!

Perfect! Tried it a couple of times then it worked. Problem solved.

dharmil, how easy is that procedure? I have the same problem and i would have to get to court if o want samsung to solve this problem for free here in my country, since it's been more than a year of purchase.

i have the exact problem :o

A total life-saver, I could never imagine fixing my device by gently beating it when placed sideways. Some serious karate skills were also involved, though! Most grateful for your enlightening piece of advice :)

THIS WORKS!! Ive been having this problem off and on for twoish weeks. it would usually fix itself and turn on in a few minutes. this time I let it sit ALL NIGHT to see if it would fix itself. it didn't. this simple solution fixed it in SECONDS. Thank you for saving me anymore nonsense trouble!

so i just want to give my story here...
Continued from the above post, my switch felt good made a nice click sound and everything else.
If i plugged it in to power it did nothing, with or without a battery. If i left the battery in it,
it drained the battery. The sprint store said my battery was dead. The battery isnt dead, deformed or anything.
So.. After trying to find a way to test the switch i gave up, ripped the switch off.
And my phone works..
You would think one would be happy to have a working phone, but instead i was disgusted by what seems to be
a common defective switch across the s3 and s4..
And to help anyone else out, to turn your phone on, press and hold the volume down button, connect it to a computer
it will enter download mode release the button, but instead of doing that just press down on the volume again
to reboot.. Then your phone is on.

holy f-ing s-it! Thank you thank you thank you so f--ing much omg you rock.

This is a great post. You've rekindled my faith in online forums a little! well written, and a perfect identification of a non obvious problem, AND solution! :)

well done!

Thank you all so very much I start experiencing the same problem with my phone this morning and by the time I was done reading it with you it was working the other great keep up the good work I actually created an account on this thing just to tell you all how great I think you are thanks again

Made an account to say thank, Solution worked for me, lightly hit the side of the phone against a table 10-15 times. Charged battery to 5% and now it fully booted. Thank you very much.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I had to do it several times and even hit it with my fingernail. But your solution really worked and finally, it just turned on by itself.

Signed up to say thank you! The phone seemed like it was bricked and after some nail "hits" on the power button it got
working again! Thank you all!

oh my god so I tried what everyone found to be working (slamming it a bunch, blowing air at it), but it didn't work so then I decided to rip it off

I thought it was broken since when I put the battery in, it didn't do anything. BUT plugging it into the computer gave the battery charging screen thank god

so to turn it on, I put a flathead into the power button opening top side and laid it against where I thought the connections were, and 5 seconds later, it turned on
wheeew
