S6 has shown its face, I'll be sticking with the S5 :)

To expand on my $am$ung comments earlier...

This is my total cost of ownership analysis of a $am$ung S6 64G vs an S5 w/ 64GB SD card:

$150 ($200 estimated upgrade fee from 32 -> 64 GB S6 - $50 SD card cost)
$240 ($10/month cloud storage x 24 months)
$100 (1 battery replacement)
---------------------------------
$490 total

Add another $100 if that replacement battery has some mileage on it by the time you sell. Add another $50 if you already own an SD card and don't need to buy one. Your TCO could be up to $640.

Compared to the $200-$300 you would have otherwise paid for the phone, $am$ung and friends are doubling or tripling your costs, depending on the specifics of your situation. $am$ung sees that Apple is a bigger financial success than technology success and wants to emulate.

I guess if toy have a defective s6, you'd have to replace the phone/battery, but if it's under warrenty or insurance, it wouldn't cost anything. I had to do that with my Droid 4 . I've had the s5 since launch and haven't replaced the battery. I don't even have a spare. If I stay with it, I might get another one.

You can use multiple cloud storages for free up to a certain point of data, so if you used all, you'd have to sort out your storage.

When I got my s5, all I heard complaints about was the plastic back. So I got a cover. Now I hear complaints about the glass back on the s6. Lol. Samsung can't win.

I think I'll stick with my s5 though. I like the card for photo storage and other storage. My internal memory is full. I know there are better ways, but I'm old school and still hardly use the cloud. I have Amazon Cloud Music Player, but have some music on my phone, just in case.

Samsung will win with the audience that really matters, the majority. Those that want removable batteries and storage are so far in the minority's that we're almost insignificant compared to those that wanted a premium build. The S6 will do better than the S5 and that's their goal. As I've mentioned before, there will now be a market for battery cases like those offered by Mophie, they can even integrate a micro SD card reader if they think it'd sell well. We shall see.

I have no desire to upgrade to the S6, even with the issues Lollipop is giving me.

If next year the S7 still has no removable battery and SD card I may as well get a Nexus since a removable back was the only thing stopping me from getting one.

Same here.. Is it just me or does it seem like Samsung is going to a IPhone type design with these phones.. I do believe the IPhone battery is not removable and no SD Card capability.. I just don't get it.. IF the battery fails, IPhone users (I have read) have to return the whole phone for a replacement battery at a $79.00 cost to the customer. What a scam..

I am wondering if Samsung will do the same thing if the S6 battery fails. I can't see them NOT charging the customer. Again a Scam.

I hope enough folks complain about these two issues and Samsung listens for the S7.

Samsung wants more sales, so in turn they emulate Apple. They see Apple users buy the iPhone with no expandable storage, replaceable battery or water resistance at a premium price so they want a piece of the action. In the end samsung's in it to make money & grow which is just the nature of the beast.
It is going to be interesting in one year's time to see how all this affects the S7.

Based on everything I have read so far, as a total package I think the s5 is actually the better smartphone. The s6 just took too many steps back despite the few improvements that it has.

Plus, the s5 will now become cheaper to buy and personally I think it's a nicer looking smartphone. Physically the s6 does not look appealing to me.

My next phone will not be a small phone anyways so I am not in the market for the s6, but I sure hope the s6 design changes don't make their way into the Note 5.

Yes, I'm going to use 30 different cloud storage apps.

I do like the look of the S6 .. I even like how snappy it looks (like launching the camera). If I had the cash I would love to try it.. Just don't know yet. We shall see.

Give it a rest....

When you become a mod you can tell me what to say. Till then you know where to put it.
For both parties involved here..

I will use the reference " backseat modding or moderating ". This is un exceptable behavior in the forums and not productive to the thread or the people involved. If you have an issue with someone or a post in particular please report the post and allow the Moderation team to step in and handle things. Taking action yourself by telling someone to knock it off, give it a rest or using a moderator tone or reference will only look bad for you.

Hope that is clear enough. We understand these threads of the newly announced devices spawn heated discussion and debates with varying opinions and we expect outburst from time to time but it can all be kept to a minimum if we follow the suggestions I made above.

Last if that isn't a doable solution we have one more option for those who insist on co existing in the same thread but can't get along.

Because you can't have the best of both worlds - if you want state of the art design, metal frame, and other things the easiest way to design it is with minimal access (only SIM card) to the outside world. While HTC M9 added a micro SD slot it still has a non-removable battery and it will be interesting to see what LG does with the G4 (it's design is probably done and they're just working on final manufacturing and software) now that Samsung and HTC (and Motorola before it with the Droid turbo) have come out with sealed battery and no/yes on micro SD card slot. 32 GB has been my minimum for memory (even on my new at launch GS3) internally.

I'm hoping some of the UI changes are implemented in the next update for the S5 (sorry I already started a thread on this topic so I won't go into detail here) possibly 5.0.2 being that's it implemented already on the S6 as the stock out of the box android version. We shall see sooner or later.

The whole reason I picked up the S5 and switched away from ever buying Apple again was for the following features:

1 - waterproof
2 - battery replacement
3 - expandable mem - micro SD slot
4 - inter operable charging - thank you micro USB

3 of 4 will go away with the S6 and this is a upgrade? I think not Samsung. Truly surprised by this terrible move on their part. :'(

I think it's a bad move to lose the microSD slot. I saw that as a huge advantage over what Apple does with the iPhone storage but now it looks like Samsung is going to go the same route which is too bad because the microSD cards are relatively inexpensive. Also, I notice people keep saying waterproof, it's not waterproof, it's water resistant... big difference.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do within the next couple months, I have an upgrade in April. The reason I got the S5 was because it had the removable battery, waterproof (which comes in handy A LOT), and SD card. I'm really not that impressed with the S6 and since I've gotten the Lollipop update, my phone is basically useless. Constant lagging, apps always force closing, battery drains much faster. Unless this is addressed in the next Lollipop update, I'm considering going back to an iPhone (I know, shoot me now lol). If not an iPhone then possibly the G4 when it comes out or the M9.

Have you considered doing a factory reset since changing to Lollipop (notice I didn't write "upgrading")? IME it makes a big difference for the better.

Agreed with the above ;)
The next update probably won't fix the issues you're experiencing now - you need a clean install which is what the FDR basically is. After that you should be good to go.

Just in case your new to it (& other users see this & try it), Back up your data ( contacts & pic's ) anything important to you stored on your phones internal memory beforehand. Its gonna completely whipe your device - but on the upside it will take care of problems too :) it won't affect your removable SD card.
Do let us know & if you have troubles just hit us up ;)

OK, so maybe I'm in the minority -- but I really like having the SD card option. That swayed me away from "upgrading" to other phones that dropped it and, as evidenced by the S6 specs, is now going to sway me away from upgrading to that.

As to removable battery, that's very handy but I've developed the habit of charging every night and even now have a portable rechargeable battery pack that I take when out of town. So, removable battery is not the priority it once was.

Time to look at other phones. Time to see what HTC has in their M9, LG in their G4, and others.
